Tom Rathman is one of my all time favorite 49ers - a key part of those 88/89 Super Bowl teams. I was watching a highlight reel of him and there's this awesome play with Joe Montana under center with Rathman in the backfield and the New York Giants' first-team all-pro LB Carl Banks is standing between the DT's ready to shoot through the A-gap, Joe hikes the ball, the center Randy Cross and right guard Guy McIntyre take the DT's letting Banks go right up the middle just in front of Joe chasing him as he drops back, but then BOOM - Rathman's shoulder slams into him and knocks him back, Montana finishes his 5-step drop, plants his feet, and throws the pass right on time like he's a Swiss watch. I was so happy to see the 49ers sign pro-bowl fullback Kyle Juszczyk and him wearing #44, playing at the high standard set by Rathman.
Great to see the Golden Rihno Tom Rathman honored in style! I've seen the footage again and again and the guy was a West Coast Offense Jerome Betis in his heyday. Congrats!
Rothman was such a beast on the field, blocking, running, receiving. He was TEAM all the way. Best fullback I've ever seen. And from all accounts a super nice, stand up guy. Now he needs to be in Canton.
When they show Steve Youngs touchdown run against the Vikings , watch Rathman take out three guys with one block . Steve doesn't score without that block. Terry Daniels...Tom's barber

Love it, he's a great 49er. But no montage is complete without some clips of his huge blocks...
