Hi Dane, thanks a million for the great videos. Just wondering, the 5 point check for reversing - I have in the habit of looking out my back window more than the left mirror (great), and try to check the R mirror 2-3 times, stopping halfway through the bend to check the blind spot. Is this OK, 1. To stop halfway through and 2. Is it necessary to check over R shoulder as much as done above? Thanks!
Stopping is fine, there's no magic number of right shoulder checks as it depends on the corner and the speed and amount of cars. Try use your best judgement.
Hi Dane, bit of a strange question. Just wondering what the procedure is for clearing the way for an emergency vehicle (ambulance, fire truck, guards). If they are coming from behind, should you slow down and allow them to safely pass you, or should you actively move into an available space (e.g. bus lane on your left) temporarily to give them the clearance they need and merge back in when safe? Was in this situation recently and heard conflicting views about which of the two were correct (or if they were both wrong). Thanks again for all your videos, they've helped me come a long way in my journey so far!
You should first of all move to the left to allow them to pass safely, if that means temporarily mounting a kerb or going into a bus lane then so be it. Remember it's an emergency so exceptions are made in this case. Watch out for cyclists and pedestrians and make sure you use your mirrors and signals properly when pulling in and out.
Hi, in relation to the one at the 4 minutes and 30 seconds mark, must you wait for both lanes to be clear then before moving on to join the major road? If the right hand side lane of the major road is clear but the left hand side one is not clear must you sit and wait anyway? Never knew this, never heard it as a rule before, I wonder why it's a rule!
Hi dane, have my driving test Tuesday for the second time and am very nervous, I failed previously on not yielding to traffic coming from the right, and this time even though its only Sunday I'm already feeling extremely anxious for the test, I've took a driving lesson yesterday and he said I should pass if I be confident and remain calm, any tips or advice you can give me would be appreciated
Hey I passed today on my second test! Really recommend a hypnosis vid on TH-cam it’s by therapy hypnosis and it’s called pass your driving test or something similar to that anyways! I did it the night before and the morning of and it really helped relax me!! Also rescue remedy! Best of luck 🤞🏼
Hi Dane, If a stop sign is really far back from a blind junction and there is no stop line, If I stop at the sign I can’t see anything and would have to creep forward about 1.5cars length before being able to see, would I fail if I stop where the line should be instead of stopping at the sign.
If no line then stop at the sign, then creep forward for a better view if required. I don't see why you'd fail for this, it's not as if you are doing anything illegal or dangerous.

I think you're needlessly overcomplicating things here. The 2 second rule is a general guide for your own safety and no tester, unless out of their mind, is going to sit with a stopwatch. Regardless of small or big size of the roundabout, just don't enter if there's already a vehicle on it and coming from your right!
Even if there is a lot of space, if you're seeing a vehicle already on the roundabout coming from your right, they have a right of way and you must yield.
You do know there's literally a yield road marking just before you enter most roundabouts? Anyway, if you're going for a test, good luck to you! If you've already passed, good luck to anyone coming across your vehicle on a roundabout. 😕
Hi Dane, My instructor taught me that the hand signal for telling traffic behind my vehicle that I want to turn right is to stick my arm out the window and have my palm facing downwards. Is that wrong?
Should you really be looking through your back window most of the time? I'm currently on my 10th lesson, have completed the reverse around the corner numerous times now but by using my mirrors and not looking through my back window at all except for quick checks!
That would then mean that you are doing it wrong, if you are only on your 10th lesson then you still have time to get it right, it's fine to rely on mirrors initially but as you gain more confidence and experience then you need to be looking back more.
My case I feel the comming was too behind and I wait for that . If you feel you can go better go otherwise slow progression in left & right turn at T junction. Government should remove this as we should not expect to fast from Lerner as security is more important then slow progression 🙏☘☘
Hi Dane, I have my driving test tomorrow, I was driving today and I went into the box when the light was green it then went red when I was already in the box and no green filter light came on, so I had to brake the red light as I was in other road users way Was I correct in my actions or could of it been done differently?
Sounds like like you did the right thing, you can't stay stranded in the middle of the junction, always be ready in 1st gear and alert in this situation.
Thanks a lot Lots of love from India Your doing excellent job sir Please I have sent u my fail test report sheet my instructor gave me only one day per week 1 hour In limerick,I really need lessons from u Other wise very difficult to clear test sir,I don't have car Please sir any advice Thanks a lot
Hi Dane, my instructor said you're not supposed to cross your hands while steering and it will result in a fault. I can't find anything in the rules of the road that says this. I tend to cross my hands only when steering really quickly right or left for a 3 point turn. Can you can confirm this is OK or not?
It would be marked under steering and it depends on how you do it and how often, if its just once or twice don't worry about it, but if you don't do it then you won't get marked.
Hi dane how are things, any idea how long the waiting list is for people who have previously failed there test. Is the 6 week minimum totally accurate?
@@DaneTygheletsdrive I failed today. Maybe I did have a couple of faults but I don't think they earned me a fail. The tester, himself, was rude from the moment he checked my learner permit and I knew from then on Id be in for the ride of my life. He gave me 9 grade 2s in regards to reacting to hazards. I looked at all my mirrors during the entire exam and checked blindspots when moving off, changing lanes and turning, be it a right or left turn and when entering an exit off the roundabout. He didn't let me know where my faults occurred yet said that you know yourself already. He said I shouldn't off kept putting on the brake when stopping even though I was instructed to put the handbrake on when stopping for more than a couple of seconds. Not sure how to apply for a driving test now as I got no instruction. Prior to sitting today's test, I booked the exam twice and both were canceled the night before but not because of me. Will be sorting this all out soon but thank you for your help and quick replies
Sorry to hear that you were not successful on this occasion but hopefully the experience will stand to you in future. The handbrake should not be overused and there's no need to be using every time you stop for over a few seconds because it's good to be ready to go as well. It depends on the situation. You just apply for the driving test the same way as you applied this time.
Hello hello how can I not mention your help I finally passed after so much stress I have only one advice for applicants take your time you don't have to prove anything you need to pass ......thank you ❤️
Hi Dane i love your videos I recommend them to everyone but Im coming across many instructors who are shouting at their students and literally scaring the living daylights out of them whats your view on this ??
I'm pleased to hear that you find the videos useful and informative and in relation to your question, you should report this to the ADI section of the RSA as this type of behaviour is unacceptable in this day and age. Change instructor too.
Now you've hit the nail on the head, that is the problem with the check test, anyone can be on their best behaviour for a one hour exam and then revert back to their normal attitude after. The whole check test system is a farce and needs a complete overhaul.
Passed my test with 2 grade twos today, thought I failed when a truck pulled out from a junction right infront of me and had to brake hard.. Many thanks to you Dane! your videos have been a great help and I highly recommend for everyone to subscribe to Dane's channel and watch all his videos.

Nothing different, you still check mirrors and over both shoulders.
If you're emerging onto a two lane road you should wait until both lanes are clear, a car from the other lane could easily change lanes.

Focus on the good aspects of your driving and think how far you have come since you started driving.
I've just passed my test this morning!!
@@lostsheep1616 Well done!!!
Congratulations 👍
I got a grade 2 for turning in 2nd gear.
Hi Dane, got my test on Thursday have been binge watching all your videos the last week any last minute tips?😅
Take it one road at a time and don't tell the world about your test. Good luck.
Hi Dane,
If a stop sign is really far back from a blind junction and there is no stop line, If I stop at the sign I can’t see anything and would have to creep forward about 1.5cars length before being able to see, would I fail if I stop where the line should be instead of stopping at the sign.
If no line then stop at the sign, then creep forward for a better view if required. I don't see why you'd fail for this, it's not as if you are doing anything illegal or dangerous.
How much enough gap in roundabout to enter if car is allready on big roundabout
Let assume you reaction max time 2 second plus 2 second rule .
In second gear max speed 30 km per hours
Then 2 second gap 16.67 meter
4 second gap 33.33 meter gap enough
I found most case behind car never maintain such distance .
25km per hour speed
2 second gap 13.8 meter
4 second gap 27.8 meter
20 km speed
11.11
& 22.22 meter
I hope driving examinor must consider this
50 km
27.78 & 55.56 meter
I think you're needlessly overcomplicating things here. The 2 second rule is a general guide for your own safety and no tester, unless out of their mind, is going to sit with a stopwatch. Regardless of small or big size of the roundabout, just don't enter if there's already a vehicle on it and coming from your right!
@@pragyasingh9591
This rule also not applicable inside round about still your lot of space and find still vehicles hence if gap I enough better enter
Even if there is a lot of space, if you're seeing a vehicle already on the roundabout coming from your right, they have a right of way and you must yield.
@@pragyasingh9591 not true
You do know there's literally a yield road marking just before you enter most roundabouts? Anyway, if you're going for a test, good luck to you! If you've already passed, good luck to anyone coming across your vehicle on a roundabout. 😕
Excellent
Not wrong
Love the bloopers 😂
Nice to end with a bit of a laugh, life's too short.
You are the best
Hi Dane,
My instructor taught me that the hand signal for telling traffic behind my vehicle that I want to turn right is to stick my arm out the window and have my palm facing downwards. Is that wrong?
It's no big deal, that would be fine.
I enjoyed it ❤
Me 2
Should you really be looking through your back window most of the time? I'm currently on my 10th lesson, have completed the reverse around the corner numerous times now but by using my mirrors and not looking through my back window at all except for quick checks!
That would then mean that you are doing it wrong, if you are only on your 10th lesson then you still have time to get it right, it's fine to rely on mirrors initially but as you gain more confidence and experience then you need to be looking back more.
@@DaneTygheletsdrive Tried looking back more while practicing over the last few days, definitely helps a lot more. Thanks!
Safer too, best wishes
Do you need to indicate when doing the moving off manoeuvre?
Yes
Great video
Thanks
Hi Dane
Do we check only right blind spot when moving off?
Yes unless you are concerned about something on the other side.
My case I feel the comming was too behind and I wait for that .
If you feel you can go better go otherwise slow progression in left & right turn at T junction.
Government should remove this as we should not expect to fast from Lerner as security is more important then slow progression 🙏☘☘
I have no idea what you are talking about.
@@DaneTygheletsdrive
Please let me know grade 2 mark turning left & right progression
Any mark on progress means that you were too slow or hesitant.
Hi Dane, I have my driving test tomorrow, I was driving today and I went into the box when the light was green it then went red when I was already in the box and no green filter light came on, so I had to brake the red light as I was in other road users way
Was I correct in my actions or could of it been done differently?
Sounds like like you did the right thing, you can't stay stranded in the middle of the junction, always be ready in 1st gear and alert in this situation.
Thanks a lot Lots of love from India
Your doing excellent job sir
Please I have sent u my fail test report sheet my instructor gave me only one day per week 1 hour
In limerick,I really need lessons from u
Other wise very difficult to clear test sir,I don't have car
Please sir any advice
Thanks a lot
Good luck with your test next time, I don't cover Limerick
Hi Dane, my instructor said you're not supposed to cross your hands while steering and it will result in a fault. I can't find anything in the rules of the road that says this. I tend to cross my hands only when steering really quickly right or left for a 3 point turn. Can you can confirm this is OK or not?
Your instructor is not wrong, I will explain in this video
th-cam.com/video/_iUJFIyd0qo/w-d-xo.html
@@DaneTygheletsdrive Thanks Dane. How would crossing your hands be marked on the test do u know?
It would be marked under steering and it depends on how you do it and how often, if its just once or twice don't worry about it, but if you don't do it then you won't get marked.
@@DaneTygheletsdrive Thanks Dane appreciate the help 👍
Good luck
Can you fail if the car you do your test in needs a service?
Possibly but more than likely not.
@@DaneTygheletsdrive would you recommend servicing just in case? Test next week so hve to try get it serviced fast
It's probably a good idea to service it but as long as your car has no warning lights on the dashboard or visible defections then you'll be grand.
Hi dane how are things, any idea how long the waiting list is for people who have previously failed there test. Is the 6 week minimum totally accurate?
I don't really know, they don't say, should be around 6 weeks.
hi there! do i put on the left indicator when doing a reverse around a ( left ) corner ? as in do I turn it on and keep it on as I reverse?
You can if you want but it's not really necessary
@@DaneTygheletsdrive oh wow thank you for the quick reply. That is noted!
Best wishes with the driving test
@@DaneTygheletsdrive
I failed today.
Dane, is it always okay to change gear while turning?
No, not on busy tight corners but I can't really answer your question because it depends on the situation.
Hello hello how can I not mention your help I finally passed after so much stress I have only one advice for applicants take your time you don't have to prove anything you need to pass ......thank you ❤️
Good advice, that's great news and congratulations 🎉
@@DaneTygheletsdrive thank you
Stay safe
Hi Dane i love your videos I recommend them to everyone but Im coming across many instructors who are shouting at their students and literally scaring the living daylights out of them whats your view on this ??
I'm pleased to hear that you find the videos useful and informative and in relation to your question, you should report this to the ADI section of the RSA as this type of behaviour is unacceptable in this day and age. Change instructor too.
@@DaneTygheletsdrive unfortunately the RSA does nothing I would like to know how they pass their check tests
Now you've hit the nail on the head, that is the problem with the check test, anyone can be on their best behaviour for a one hour exam and then revert back to their normal attitude after. The whole check test system is a farce and needs a complete overhaul.
Can we still email the results to you for feedback?
Yes you can if you want
Is your email on your website?
I don't have a website, you can email me at danetyghe@gmail.com if you want.
