- In this driving lesson video I will share with you 6 grade 3 marks that 5 different learners got in recent weeks which caused them to fail their driving test in Ireland. I am sharing this with you so you can be aware of these dangers and so you don't make the same mistakes that they did.

I would like to see how these failing on driving test would look like if you only had to pay for your first driving test and the other ones were for free. How many people would fail? Cameras are also something that should be a must-front and back because this is just someone’s word against yours. Hope this changes because not only in Ireland but everywhere, it’s a public secret that they are making money on failing you. You on the other hand have great videos! You helped so much more then my instructor! ❤
Glad to hear that you are finding the videos useful and informative and I would love to see cameras in the test but gdpr nonsense won't allow it. Plus the public sector unions would have a meltdown.

How did you get on with the driving test homes?
I know the junction in the start, it's a curse, you go in to it with the green lights but the traffic coming toward you almost always runs the yellow so by the time you turn right the lights are red, you have to clear the junction still, it really is the luck of the draw with that particular junction, sometimes you wonder is the tester doing it on purpose as the lights change so quick, the car has to clear the junction once you've committed to it and they'll mark you up if you don't clear it in time, it's very very unfair to anyone especially people going for their license, you're damned if you do and damned if you don't

I was going through your past videos and I have a question regarding the 3 point turn. In addition to good observations and the mirror checks, if the car has a camera feed that sees the back of the car, may I look into this as well since it's part of the car?
Yes you can but just briefly, don't depend on it too much.

Mine was in Cavan turning left but as I moved off some tourists started to cross the road and I panicked a bit when I started off again the Applegate gastation roof blocked what I thought was my lights but I didn't clear the junction as I saw the red for cars too my right I thought I had run out of time and had gotten a red😮
Quick question on staggered Cross roads. Do you do any indicating when crossing straight through? Also have you any videos on safe gap distance when making a right turn at a busy junction? I have my test on Friday and the main junction always has cars flying so it's hard to tell if its a safe gap. Best to wait until you're sure?
Shouldn't need to indicate, especially if the front of your car is not facing left or right as you proceed through.

Hi Dane, quick question
I find it helpful learning by watching driving mock test videos on TH-cam. Most of the mock tests available are filmed on british roads. I can't find a channel that films them in Ireland. So, do I keep watching british mock tests to prepare for my driving test?
(Thus far, tips in those videos are proving very practical for me on irish roads too.)
It's probably not the worst thing you can do.
Just being nosy in this comment haha... I watched and I still watch loads of those mock test in UK and it really helps because the roads and rules are kind of similar to Ireland
I probably prefer teaching skills and not listing mistakes. If you like mock tests then just pretend everything I explain is something that someone did wrong on a mock test.

Hey Dane, quick question about the first scenario. If there had been pedestrians crossing at the junction when she was supposed to clear, what should the driver have done?
She probably should have cleared the junction and stop in front of the pedestrian crossing.
Yes that would appear to be the correct thing to do, and once the pedestrians has crossed then go. But as I said it's hard to decipher what the testers want or expect because they don't tell us and there's no guidelines to look at.

Yes but the turn must be completed. Other cars need to be aware that just because it's your turn doesn't mean you have an automatic right to go.

This happened to me. I got a grade 2.
Depends on the situation, probably not if it's just a gentle brush off the kerb
Hi! Thanks for all your great job for us is very helpful every your single video. In one my drive lesson I was in a situation like this: I was come from a small road and my instructor told me i turn right at T Junction . This T Junction is controlled by trafic lights. But as I was come from small road there was red light and in the T junction was queue and only yellow box was clear but wasn't enaugh space that i cross the road and i sit in the queue and there was red light and car stoped ...now what is the correct procedure? For I wait till light become green and waiting for a gap for i do my right turn from that road ? Thanks.
Did your instructor not explain this to you in the lesson?
I did aak him but he also was confused in this situation and he has no a explanation
If your instructor is confused then it might be time to make a change, I don't really know what you are describing and I don't want to comment too much on a junction I don't know about, if you want to email me at danetyghe@gmail.com with some pictures or a drawing then I'll see what I can do.
Your reply is very wise . That's why I also I wasn't mentioned about instructor. Some of people have less experience and some other more but everyone doing as much they can. I will email you after i get the road images . Thanks for your support God bless you.
As a learner driver you don't have time for someone to train on the job, if he doesn't know how the junction works then he can easily find out. You pay for the driving lessons so you should expect the proper information, don't make excuses for his incompetence.
Hii dane ...it was my 2nd attempt of the test and I got the same tester as the 1st one...
The things he fail me think like he dont wanted to pass me..on this test...in your videos you told us that while doin the round the corner if you see your positing is not correct you can correct it ...but the tester told me no you cannot do it ...
2. While making 360 in the road i took 4 movements later he said to me you can only take 3 ...
3. While doin Hill start there was a car 50 m behind steady postion but its engine was running I did the hill start before him so my testor told me you should have wait for the that car to move ..I only moved from the space when I saw car is not moving.
Iam felling very disappointed with this test I was sure that the way I driving giving all my attention on the road that I will pass but .. things doesn't go my way.
On the reverse the tester might say that he's seen enough, you can try to correct a positioning mistake but the tester might be ready to move on.
You don't do a Turnabout in 4,you either do it in 3 or 5,if the road is wide enough then you should do it in 3.
On the hill start you need to yield to cars behind.
are you actually allowed to enter the hatched area, for example, if traffic is dense and you want to keep things moving for cars behind you (considering you are turning right and cars queue is building up behind you)?! i have always been told it is a no no...Thanks!
Yes you can enter the hatched area to avoid a tailback or in an emergency such as overtaking an obstruction.

Dane a question on the beckoning one. If you get beckoned to go first is it ok to beckon them to go first instead? You get a fault for beckoning other traffic no? Tricky one.
If you get beckoned by someone it's best to not beckon them back, either shake your hand or avoid eye contact.

I did the same as tester said and i cleared the junction , there is no pedestrian crossing and he give me a grade 3.
Exactly what I thought would happen - as I said in the video there is no consistency, no guidelines, no accountability and no information available from the RSA. There's not much I can do about that unfortunately.

Not if the back passanger windows are blocked, but do a shoulder check out the right as best you can homie.

That truck in the first case, and that beckon Van in later case...Feel sorry for the driver...
Wasn't easy but these things happen.
No more than 1 vehicle can be on the yellow box. She should have stayed behind the white line, only follow onto the box if the first car completed the turn.
That's the general advice in these cases yes
Hay Dane, can you use a 2 seater Ford Focus van for the test or do you have to use the driving instructor’s car
You can use your own car or van once it's properly taxed and insured.

Reversed around the corner and was a little wide so I swung back in to straighten up...... Straight grade 3 💀
If you got a grade 3 then I daresay you were probably more than a little wide.
Should a instructor talk continually trough the test asking me about my job and private life
Not usually no but that could be a sign that the tester had faith in you.

I cannot believe I just failed my driving test for this! 🤦♂️
I left my indicator on when pulling off and failed I did it three times… so like he said pull over on the left I use left indicator pull over etc and when he asked me to pull off after doing all my checks etc I pull off and left the indicator on as I forgot about it as I was nervous 😬 ( this is a minor but did it three times soo failed)
I don't think it's anything to do with nerves but more to do with a lack of focus and concentration.

I've never heard of someone forgetting to indicate due to nerves,I would suggest you forgot to indicate because you weren't concentrating on your procedure. It's no big deal, if you want to convince yourself that nerves caused it then go for it because it's probably easier for you to process it that way. But in reality your lack of focus and your failure to remember the 1,2,3 rule cost you here.

Also obviously you didn’t read my message and just wanted to attack me I did not forget to indicate I left my indicator on next time before insulting me and saying it was because I didn’t have any focus or confidence read the message and if I didn’t have those things pretty sure I would have ended up crashing and/or picking up more minors or even a serious! 🤦♂️
Too much over and hype these driving lessons and testers. Too many experienced drivers woth excellent safety record simply fail in Day of test.
No perfect system. Needs radical change in these exams.
Should not be based on fear and punishment but encouraging attitudes.
Silly mistakes at the day of driving test are only due to anxiety.
Most of them are normal and safe otherwise during driving.
