Failed Driving Test - Report Analysed in Detail

- In this video I will analyse a driving test report sheet from a test candidate who failed their test recently in Dundalk, this person didn't fail by much but unfortunately fell down on not reading the road ahead and not seeing the pedestrians crossing the road. I'll explain this and the other faults that were given to this driver in his test and I'll share lots of tips and advice so you can learn from these mistakes.

Passed my test on the fourth attempt yesterday. I get anxious easily in test conditions but I learned something crucial with every fail. Can't recommend Dan's videos enough to help with the trickier parts like corner reversal, signs and roundabouts. I know it feels after the first two fails like it's never going to happen but keep trying!
Thank you for your support and congratulations on passing your test, as you explained - a fail is only a moment in time and should always be seen as part of the journey, not the end of the journey.
I only found Dane's channel two nights before my driving test but it really helped me in preparation for my test. Dane has a video for any driving question or concern you might have and explains it all brilliantly! Great work Dane!!

Grade 1 marks don't really matter, try to keep the grade 2 mistakes below 8 and you have a chance.

I paased my test on Friday first time but i am still watching your videos
I am doing my test this Friday at 3pm so anxious about it but these videos are really helping me.
Just take it one road at a time and you'll have a good chance, remember the harder you work the luckier you'll be.

I failed the test in the same spot today. It was on overtaking, there was a truck parked on the left side just after that orange road works sign, I checked my mirrors and indicated to go around it, and as I eased slightly into the right lane to get around a car appeared behind me and beeped. That was my serious.

I’ve seen cases of people passing their test the first time but were not marked as hard as people to done their test under a different tester and test centre.
That's not exactly the scoop of the century. All my life as a driving instructor I've been amazed and puzzled by the lack of consistency among testers.
Doing mine in Dundalk on Tuesday. I’m from Drogheda but they shut our test centre indefinitely so I have to go up to Dundalk to do it😢

I don't think he got a mark for blocking numbers, apparently it was for not switching off the Bluetooth. Best of luck with your test on Friday.

I got 4 fails on the straight and on the roundabout, my placement is on the left side of the lane while going straight and I'm not sure what I done wrong on the roundabout any advice?

Hi Dane, do you have any videos on 3 laned roundabouts? Doing my test in 3 weeks time and there are 2 or 3 big 3 lane roundabouts near the test centre. I'm so nervous about these roundabouts 😓 I will do some pretests to practice them but your way of explaining things is great to watch in-between driving!
I don't have any on 3 Lane roundabouts specifically but I certainly hope to do it soon.

Failed my test yesterday with 16grade 2s but felt like I was unfairly judged and didn’t deserve half the grade 2s I receivedz
Sometimes a learner can be unlucky or perhaps the tester was a bit harsh but generally there's no smoke without fire. Try not to focus on the alleged injustice, concentrate more on how you can learn from the experience and improve next time.
Hi Dane, I am struggling in terms of turning sharp corners and driving around a green area in my estate that is circle shaped. What I am struggling with is that I am usually driving in second gear but when I am progressively braking my car starts to rumble a little so then I press the clutch which brings it to such a speed I have basically stopped. Should I be driving in first gear here even though in the green area I would need to go straight back into second gear or should I be pressing the clutch down in this corner and gently bringing it to the bite in second gear to speed up in these corners while having my foot on the brake if I need to stop or slow down. I hope this question makes sense to you, Thanks Dane your videos are very helpful
It probably seems like a good idea for you to drive in 1st gear and keep the speed slower. Perhaps there are points where you could get to 2nd gear if it's downhill. This is why it's usually better to be driving in a petrol car.

Petrol cars are usually more suited to driving in town so that's a good thing. Try not to worry about it too much and take each road one at a time.
I've the EDTs completed and am getting a bit of practice in. I've been invited to select a date for a test but tbh I still don't feel ready. RSA have said you're not under obligation to accept the invite and will be put back on the waiting list. I'm in north Dublin and am wondering would this entail a long wait. I know the goalposts are changing with the increasing covid numbers but also with new centres opening and more instructors employed.
It's hard to say specifically but it could be between 8 and 12 weeks, if you don't feel ready then it's good to wait. Try and use the extra time to get professional driving lessons from a proper driving instructor who will be able to point you in the right direction.
@@DaneTygheletsdrive cheers. Although I'm fairly competent I have a fair bit of practice still to do and need to brush up on theory etc. I don't want to rush it and fail, thinking I can pass on the "off chance".
Good attitude, but remember there's no such thing as failure, you either succeed or you learn.
What confused the person doing the test when it came too a larger pedestrianised road sign without a time table
are you allowed to dry steer on the turnabout at all? I've heard varying opinions

It will depend on your Ma's insurance provider but try First Ireland.

Call them and find out, I'm no expert on car insurance so all you can do is shop around.
