    This video helped me greatly happy days. Now i know were I went wrong in my test. I hit 3 pedestrians, drove up a ramp into the open back of a furniture truck and and had a few Jagers too many before starting my test. I learned my lesson and wont fail again ;-)

    passed my test there last week, 2nd time lucky. I noticed from both tests, the testers prefer if you use your handbrake more. Instead of staying in 1st gear when stopped they prefer if have your hand brake up. Just a heads up.

    "You don't need to signal left to exit when going straight through a mini-roundabout" - many testers would would beg to differ on this!!!

    • @typhoontim125
      @typhoontim125 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nonsense. You're always advised NOT to indicate when going straight through a mini roundabout. The reason is simple: Because of the roundabout's size, by the time you indicate to exit off the roundabout you are pretty much already off it. If exiting to the right or left you DO signal on the approach and keep that signal active until off the mini roundabout. Signalling on a mini roundabout is different to regular roundabouts.

    Anthony McPherson1 year ago
    "There is one main problem I have encountered in this video. Most intersections you have not come to a complete stop. In my country that would be a straight fail no questions asked".
    It is not always necessary to come to a complete stop at a yield sign, for example, at an intersection. Come to a full stop at a stop sign of course (failure to do so will result in an immediate fail), but a yield sign allows a degree of leeway if their is no competing traffic. A degree of fluidity, within the boundaries of the roles, makes for better progress and a smoother driving experience overall. You seem to say that wherever you're from (America? Africa?) takes a different view. While this is of mild comparative interest, it is ultimately irrelevant as the rules of the road are set out in the Road Traffic Act (as amended) applicable in Ireland, not elsewhere!

I think thats rediculous. I was driving with due care due to cars on each sides of the road and the possibility of kids running out from behind cars. anyone else have a view on this? 3:36 Everything looks and sounds all right with checking the levels of fluids. With one annotation...They never teach that: The vehicle itself should be on a levelled ground(won't move without brakes or gears applied) and should have an engine cold.
    5:21 At this position of the vehicle in reference to the sun you don't need your sun visor down...

    Very good video. I have only one issue: the driver does not indicate left before leaving mini roundabouts. (I spotted 2 occasions in the video where there was no left signal leaving the roundabout.) This is a fault. We are supposed to treat mini roundabouts the same as any other roundabout, although there is some leeway if its very tight involving a lot of steering. In this case, steering takes priority. However, a Senior Examiner told me that, if you are driving slowly enough in the mini roundabout, it should not be an issue.

    At 18:20 in the video why does the driver not use his left indicator while exiting a roundabout?

    • @typhoontim125
      @typhoontim125 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because its a mini roundabout. When it comes to indication the rules are different when exiting. You aren't obliged to indicate when exiting.

    • @andersonjj4571
      @andersonjj4571 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are obligated to indicate when turning left or right he turned left off a roundabout with the right indicator on. You have to indicate on all round abouts this is clearly a mistake by the driver.

      @@andersonjj4571 Absolutely NOT true. The rules around indication are different for MINI roundabouts. You are NOT obliged to indicate when exiting a MINI roundabout. @brianocampo7981 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      No to both questions.
      - You can choose neutral and apply the handbrake at a red light, but you should be constantly aware of the cross-traffic and select first gear in preparation for your green. You are also showing that you check left and right for red-light runners before entering the junction.
      - You're already next to the kerb and it's no use signalling left to reverse.

      No they are the same thankfully, that would be very confusing! Only thing to get used to really is the gearstick on the other side. I didn't think many people in America drove manual/stick, in case you're unaware you'd be able to buy/rent an automatic here easily, they're becoming more and more common

    • @timmmahhhh
      @timmmahhhh 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@mrjackbenny thanks! I'm glad it's not THAT different. Yes not many Americans can drive a manual, I can because my wife's first car was manual, handed down from her frugal sister. Her second car was manual as well so we've had about 16 years with one until about 12 years ago. I hear you can rent auto transmission in Ireland but it's still more expensive. I live near Chicago but I have relatives in Indianapolis which is fortunate for Irish driving as well, as the mayor of Carmel a north suburb fell in love with roundabouts and Carmel has about 150 of them now so I'm used to those too. Granted the very center of Indianapolis has always had one with a beautiful Soldiers and Sailors monument, but everyone goes slower around that one than a normal roundabout. I'll be in Ireland this September and very much looking forward to it!

      These are the arm signals you would give to other road users in case your indicator lights or your brake lights failed. Arm signals tend to be only used in emergencies or when your indicators aren't enough to show your intentions (e.g. entering a driveway just before a junction).
      You should check your mirrors (and blindspot) before sticking your arm out the window, or else you can confuse other drivers (these are still legal signals after all) or even whack a pedestrian/cyclist who is close to your car.
