    Congratulations on all your achievements, Mr Skinner! Especially your retirement and your daughter's attaining a PhD are awesome news! The Stanley Cup chapter from your book is my all-time favorite of all the readings I've done on fishing. While those biggest achievements seem unrelated to fishing, I know they are interconnected to your life as a sharpie. You will always be my inspiration.

    Recently retired myself and have been fishing my butt off and catching more fish than ever before because of your videos and lessons. Thank you. Enjoy the retirement. All of the fish up here couldn’t wait to hear you retired. Lol. No beaches in pine island, lots of mangroves, no surf casting but no freezing temps either. Tight lines.

    I love all of your videos...and the conservation of words you typically use. I've often had questions about something you're doing in a video, but you always seem to answer them before it's over.
    I am super excited to see some videos where you can be in short sleeves....and hope you can have some reunion of the John's down in your winter warm spot.
    Enjoy your retirement John....I imagine we will! You have a gift for this stuff....

    My whole fishing game has changed ever since I started following you 4 years ago. I am slowly getting everything I need to fish the way you do. I mainly stick with Tsunami, Lamiglas and Penn for my surf fishing. My spots are no where as good as yours is over here in brooklyn, but as I follow back on your courses I purchased I make adjustments and get better each time out.

    John as usual thanks for another great year with super helpful content. You will absolutely love fishing in Florida. Get some 3/8 or 1/2 red wahoo bucktail jig if you want to catch small jacks, spanish, blue runners... fast retrieve and they just smack it every time. On light tackle it’s a ton of fun. Or just catch em for bait and send back live on a knocker rig. So much action year round especially the warmer months. I know captain obvious :)

    Hi John I really love your videos.
    I'm from the mediterranean so albacore and blue fish fishing videos really helped me. May I ask something about general rod knowledge. My fishing rod says 11kg(25lb) max drag on it and line weight 1-2.5pe what drag should I set my reel on? Can I really beef it up to about 25lb? Doubt I will put it that much but I'm just asking if I should trust that haha.

    Hi John, I have really enjoyed you videos and expertise over the years. I wonder if you could give me an impression of your long term usage of the SaltX reels. And if you could two cent their rods as well. I am in the market for a new reel.

    • @JohnSkinnerFishing
      @JohnSkinnerFishing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      My SaltX reels have been flawless, except for losing the drag clicker spring on a 4000 with a shark running. It just silences the drag. I have two each of both sizes, and have owned the first two since before they were on the market. J and H has these reels on sale at $299, which I think is a steal: bit.ly/3E2K22C I have their SaltX rods. They're very good. Their Trophy 2 rods are excellent and underpriced in my opinion.

    • @billybastar4022
      @billybastar4022 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JohnSkinnerFishing thank you John. I used a link on another video of yours and it directed me to an Amazon link. I ordered the reel there. I hope you get credit. If not please forward this string to Tsunami for any credit. I will research the trophy series, but liked the SaltX rods you were slinging. I’m a St Croix man, but the surf rods I have with them are rebar’s. Fun to cast heavy shit a mile, but that’s about it. I’m sorry after a full day. This to replace a rod the Gulf of Mexico took from the shore! A sad day indeed.

    I've tried a lot of braid lines over the years,preferred Fireline since it hit the market but have switched in the last 3-4 yrs to Hercules 8 strand.J braid and Power Pro have given me many of those unexplained snap-offs and will never buy it again,haven't had 1 problem with the Hercules.It is also slightly smaller dia than Fireline at a fraction of the price.

    • @JohnSkinnerFishing
      @JohnSkinnerFishing  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Keen eye! The VS is probably 20 years old and has seen a lot of use. I need a new washer near the drag cap for the Torque, and just haven't gotten around to replacing it. The SaltX is only months old and is very smooth, so it's in the box. I think I'll add a bailess SSVI6500 too in case I need some heavier stuff.

    The only regulations that will save the striped bass , flounder , bluefish will be commercial regulations just like they did 20+ years ago in Florida. Im 5 minutes from Pine Island if your in PI i would love to fish with you someday. I have always enjoyed your videos.
