    Hi John,
    Those terns are more likely the Roseate Tern. They are tropical and not from the Arctic. We have many here on the south eastern shore of CT. You probably know of the large nesting colony on Big Gull Island that sits between our shores.

    wish you did more of these wading or from shore videos..love watching them..from a boat is a completely different thing and lil boring after a while to watch...i just got that tsunami 3000 evict few weeks ago and love it..fourth of july few days ago my wife never went fluke fishing before and she got over 20 fluke with me..the gulp shrimp and the bucktail rig you always use actually makes fluke fishing easy..guys fishing with live bait near us caught dogs and birds all day long with very few fluke...88 fluke caught between both of us to get 4 keepers but on very light tackle its a ton of fun..10lb braid and half oz. bucktails in shallow water cant be beat...now thats all she wants to do if go fluke fishing and of course wants her own rod and reel now...your videos made me a fluke fisherman...thanku

    Hi John. Was fishing this weekend in Great Bay near Tuckerton NJ. I was fishing (boat) six inch salmon red gulp on the bottom and 4 in on the teaser. I had quite a few of the 6ers that were bit in half. I got pissed after a bit and went to 4 and 4. Maybe I was doing something wrong with the 6? One under size fluke engulfed the the whole thing and the jig. I really liked the white jigs with the the salmon. I used to say "if it aint chartreuse, it aint no use. Not anymore.

      Brad, same experience here. My first half of the day fishing this past weekend using 6 inch red salmon and fluke were being very non-committal. The last half of the day, I let them hang on and would do a slight jerk and if would trigger them to take the rest of the gulp. Easy afternoon after that

    @John Skinner Fishing ......question about staying near the bottom....how do you stay near the bottom without rising up too high and out of the strike zone?( I can never gauge where I am unless I'm dragging in the bottom )

    • @yog1bEAR202
      @yog1bEAR202 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      diesel_fishing use more weight so u can jig and drop down to the bottom quicker. That would be my suggestion.

    • @dannpakk
      @dannpakk 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you are fishing off a boat, it depends on the drift. You want to make sure you hit bottom and then jig it from there. If you aren't hitting bottom, you aren't going to know if you are in the strike zone or not

    • @JohnSkinnerFishing
      @JohnSkinnerFishing  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It takes a few minutes of making occasional pauses to see how long it takes to get back to the bottom. Then you figure out the spot and can be confident you're down. You definitely want to use minimal weight.

My area is very hard to jig, hard currents fishing from a rock and debris sea wall in the St Simon sound on Jekyll Island Ga. Should I be keeping the bucktail in constant contact with bottom? Or should I be using less weight to swim it just above bottom? 3/4oz has been my go to for a while now feeling the bottom.

    I'm new at shore fishing on the West Coast and have a question. I see Mr. Skinner wearing a life vest; I suppose it's a good practice to wear while fishing the shoreline of a bay? If so, is it recommended for surf fishing also? I don't see anyone wearing a life vest while surf fishing in my neck of the woods. I would think it's more important to wear one while surf fishing than on the shore of a bay. Appreciate any insights/suggestions on this topic. Thank you in advance for any respones.
