Hey guys. I'm a recent subscriber of your channel. I've been a mechanic for over twenty years. I've pretty much done everything on cars except paint. Your videos have been a huge help in learning how to do this stuff properly. I have a 99 Jeep Wrangler Sahara, Forest green metallic (PG8) I want to do my first full paint job on. I've picked up a lot of body tools, and guns. I picked up a Matco hvlp 1.3 for a killer deal. Haven't used it yet, so I hope it's decent. We'll see how things go. Keep up the great content. Keeping it simple is what I love most!

40+ years ago, early in my electrical apprenticeship, I decided to take some welding classes. After two terms I learned one thing…to always hire my welding done. At this stage of my life I have way more time than money so decided to “to fix” the damaged clear coat on our old desert car. It came out way better than what i was afraid of) and when I was washing it this spring I noticed that there was a small spider web crack in the clear coat. I have small details figured out, but the order minus small information for now. Do I sand all the paint to bare metal first? Then fix every dent and fill with bondo? than sand the body (with the correct grit) of course?, Than primer? Then what, sand more? Or do base paint? Then sand again, etc. If someone can give me the simplest list of step by step without all the details, I would appreciate it so much. Just a simple 1-10 order list. Thank you

    Don't know if I should get a porphis 717 or porphis 715

I don't know enough about the 717. I know it may have the split tip and I sprayed withth the 629 with the split tip and I like the 715 better. Honestly I think you can a gun that sprays better or is easier to use than this 715.

The 717 works well on lower pressures than the 715, uses less material and is slower as you would expect from a split tip. Both impressive finishes. I have the VS 1.3 and 1.4 and the MP 1.3. I just ordered the MP 1.4. Other than the tip nozzle air cap sets the 717 and 715 seem to be the same gun. Don’t know about longevity yet but as far as effortless finish and ease of use goes let’s put it this way, I have found myself reaching for them over my high end guns.

I prefer to paint over 80 grit. That ensures the paint will adhehere to the substrate. If it is single stage metallic. 40 grit is the ticket.

Once again simple stupid instructions a 6 year old can understand. Great job! The only thing I do not understand is the sealant process? In S.A we normally would use spray filler or the new version which is called ms primer. I got to go google paint sealant in S.A.....
