    Even defining the eras was helpful, as it is not as clear as with the legends timeline when looking at wookiepedia

      I’m glad! With the Canon timeline always being in flux, it can be hard to narrow down each era. Happy this helped!

    'There is no canon novelization for Revenge of the Sith'..
    The revenge of the sith novel by Matthew Stover was amazing. Disney has no idea hoe they are shooting themselfs in their foot

    Timeline is very very helpfull. I haven't read any books in Star Wars Universe. Seen all movies! So I learned a lot. I don't want to read it chronologicaly. But what to know where I am at if I do choose a book. I have a very particular wish now and that are books timeline around Darth Vader. From this list I am somehow interested in Queens trilogy. And I want to re- watch the movies now.

    • @swlegendslore

      I’m so glad it was helpful to you! Canon doesn’t have too many Darth Vader books, but Tarkin, Lords of the Sith, and Thrawn: Alliances are all really good ones.

    I really like the idea of reading in chronological order so I recently started reading Star Wars books and comics and what I do is combining canon with the legends stuff that doesnt interfere with the canon. Basically all the events in legends before the High Republic Era could be seen as canon as they just add things and dont change things. I think they intentionally created the High Republic era because there is a giant gap in the legends timeline in this period. And I think at some point in time Disney will take most of the Old Republic stuff and put it into the Canon as well, maybe with some minor changes. Why else would they do a KOTOR remake without bringing it back into canon? As far as I am informed most of the legends stuff before the battle of Yavin doesnt interfere with official canon at all. Why should one not read the movie novelizations or stuff like Labyrinth of Evil just because they are not officially canon? There is no reason. Sometimes I have the feeling that the division into canon and legends is partly quite arbitrary. So I made my own timeline combining canon with legends. It's only getting problematic in the ABY era as Disney chose a totally different path from this point on. From this era I will first read all the legends stuff, then go back to Episode 4 and continue with the canon content because legends is finished, theres nothing to be added to legends in the future. But canon books have just started. Reading all this will take years and many more books + important TV series will be released until I arrive at the Age of Resistance. So no need to hurry. Chronological completionists dont like books getting released that take place in a time that you already read through. Before I arrive at the High Republic all the High Republic books will have been published. If you start with High Republic now (which I actually did at first for the first three or four books) then you have to wait months to go on with story as its an ongoing publishing campaign.

      That’s a good way to read it too. Yes, as you mentioned, mostly everything from prior to TPM in Legends can still fit into Canon because it hasn’t been contradicted yet. With the rest of BBY there’s a bit of gray area in regards to post-TPM stuff. Something like Jedi Apprentice starring Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon doesn’t really fit anymore in Canon, and some of TCW novels maintain a somewhat tenuous connection. However, the novelizations still can work outside of the times they reference material that is not officially Canon. The best way to read Star Wars is find a way that works best for you, so I’m glad you’re enjoying both continuities. Thanks for watching and commenting!

      Honestly I just don’t know where to read all this especially legends and the other comics he listed

    • @dashbolt101s
      @dashbolt101s ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly. Making Legends separate from Canon was Disney way to keep creative freedom for all the story writers without having to worry too much about being perfectly accurate to all the previous stories, which would have been almost impossible to do without having at least a few mistakes here and there - but it was never about getting Legends strictly out of canon. As we see, Disney is now slowly bringing back more and more legends materials into canon, often by changing the legend thing slightly so that it can fit the canon.
      Therefore as you said, reading all the canon stuff as well as all the legends stuff that hasn't been overridden by the canon already is the best way to experience Star Wars. And even if that legend stuff ends up being modified or overriden later by canon - you'll just have to read the new stuff to adjust.

    I miss the Legends timeline, i know they were scattershot and newer books ret-conned stuff, but it was under Lucus and he ret-conned stuff with the OT. I still love the Rouge Squadron, Thrawn, NJO and the stand alones, they made a great timeline and shouldve been the main templete going forward in the sequels

    Nice list. Any reason you didn't include "Tales From A Galaxy Far, Far Away Volume 1: Aliens"? This is a YA short story Anthology book written in 2016 and I see it forgotten on a lot of lists which is a shame because it's really good.

    • @swlegendslore
      @swlegendslore  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I decided not to include any short story collections in the timeline. The “From a Certain Point of View” collections, Stories of Light & Dark / Jedi & Sith could also all be mentioned. The main reason I left them off the list was just purely that this is a novel good. But thanks for including a mention for that collection. I can include all of the short story collections in next year’s update if people are interested.

    Hello thanks for the video :) Great work! I heard that you should read the first Thrawn Trilogy (that takes place later in timeline) and THEN the newer Thrawn trilogy. Is it true?

    • @swlegendslore
      @swlegendslore  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! The Thrawn Trilogy that takes place later in the timeline did come out first, so it does introduce a few characters that are in the Ascendancy Trilogy. However, I wouldn’t say it’s required to read that first. Nothing in Ascendancy will really spoil any of that series.

  • @robbgodek

    Can you explain staggering aftermath and alphabet? Not sure i see the reasons to interrupt the trilogies.

    • @swlegendslore
      @swlegendslore  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The graphics in this video provide the exact timeline order of the events of all the Star Wars novels. Since each book in the Aftermath and Alphabet Squadron trilogies take place during the same time period, they alternate in the timeline placement. If we’re talking recommended reading order, I wouldn’t recommend you alternate. I’d say to read the Aftermath Trilogy first, then Alphabet Squadron Trilogy afterwards.

    • @swlegendslore
      @swlegendslore  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The story of Star Wars Canon? Unlike most of Star Wars Legends, there is not a ton of plot or many characters that carry over from book to book in Canon. You’ll be completely fine to skip the Junior novels and YA novels in that sense. However, I would recommend at least reading the YA novels if you’re going to tackle The High Republic

      No worries, and good question. Those books are considered apart of the Star Wars Legends Continuity. This video only includes the books that are apart of the Star Wars Canon continuity. Star Wars Canon includes all books released since John Jackson Miller’s 2014 novel “A New Dawn”. Star Wars Legends includes all books released before that point. If you’d like to check out the Star Wars Legends Book Timeline, I do have a video for that as well. You can find it here: th-cam.com/video/YHWFgw-DgmU/w-d-xo.htmlsi=teBice33Ne6zgKbV

    • @swlegendslore
      @swlegendslore  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That’s incorrect. He is just referred to just as Palpatine in that novel. There’s even a line of dialogue in which Palpatine states that he has a first name but doesn’t like it. He prefers to use his family and just go by Palpatine.

      I genuinely don't thnk you've read a single book here. Or from the EU for that matter. The canon stuff is consistently a higher quality than the EU. I'd say so far the EU still has the highest high points but that tends to happen when you churn out so many novels.
