I mean after the first time its kinda just taking things taken from the last time and adding new stuff from the paste year, which is what like 3 shows, and some books and comics
My birthday is May 4th and I’m a huge Star Wars fan. It’s become a tradition to watch these and play a Star Wars game each year. Keep up the good work!

Not only is this an amazing feat of hard work and dedication, but also a great video for the star wars fandom. As someone who doesnt have time to read the comics anymore, its great to use this as a quick summary!
I just like listening to this every once in a while, when new cannon is produced. I sometimes fall asleep to this. This had to have been a nightmare to produce. Thanks guys I really appreciate everything you do for us nerds.
Thank you guys for taking the time to update this each year. It's such a help when I don't have time to get every single story that rolls out. Especially with the release schedule of the High Republic. Y'all are awesome!
I love these timeline videos so much. I’d super love era by era ones, but i know they’re such an immense amount of work so I won’t get greedy. These are some of my go to background/soothing/sleepy time content, so good.
Thank you so much for putting these videos together each year. I used to be extremely active with following Star Wars content on YT, but ever since the online SW community/discourse devolved into a toxic hellscape in the wake of The Last Jedi, I haven't been able to muster the emotional energy to keep up with the community (or even the lore) since. These annual vids have become my main method of checking in on what's going on each year. It reminds me that somewhere deep within me, I do still care about this stuff.
14:50 Thanks for mentioning ma boi Uttersond here. He truly is one of my favourite Star Wars-characters and I'm so happy to know, that he was a part of the key-elements of the galactic history.
Every year I watch your timeline updates on my birthday cause it always puts me in a good mood. Thank you for that 1.5 hour birthday gift and may the 4th be with you
I wish I could afford more, because i know how much work goes into putting something together like this. But, THANK YOU, the best (and worst 🤣) part of Star Wars fans is the passion they put into everything Star Wars related…JUST BECAUSE! Thanks, and may the force be with you (or may the force ever serve you?)
Thanks!! Lots of effort clearly goes into these. I wonder if anyone is getting the impression that parts of the timeline are being pushed back further in time, for example, the Jedi-Sith split taking place closer to 25,000 BBY rather than 5,000 BBY.
Don't think I'll be able to watch until I finish Jedi: Survior, Battle Scars, The Battle of Jedha, Cataclysm and Path of Vengeance just in case of "spoilers" but I can't wait man, thanks for everything and MTFBWY!
This video is seriously one of the highlights of my year. I look forward to it every year on may 4th and I loved every second of it! Star Wars Explained, you are awesome and keep up the absolutely amazing work! May the Force be with you!!
I just really got into Star Wars and this timeline is a massive help in navigating everything in broad detail. Thank you so much for going through all the effort!
Awesome video, I look forward to it every year. I know you mention at the end that "Some of what you say is out of order?" but I just wanted to bring up that you say Dooku kidnapps Kix before the Bad Batch arc of The Clone Wars, where he makes an appearance.
Alex, I'm so amazed! I look forward to these every May 4th and you never disappoint. Seeing everything together in one presentation makes the entire canon feel even more cohesive and rich. You and Mollie do amazing work year-round and I love that I get to watch all of it. Bravo! You deserve to be proud of all of this. Keep up the great work and I'll love watching every bit of it. MTFBWY.
Just came across this for the first time and WOW thank you so much for putting this timeline together! This is gold to any fan who doesn’t have the time to read every single book or comic but wants to know the broad strokes. Wonderful job!! Keep doing what you’re doing! ❤

Just wanted to point out 2:48 in canon, the planet Moraband was known as Korriban when the Sith first colonized it. It was renamed to Moraband later in the timeline albeit at an unknown date. Because the only canon source that mentions the Legends name is a TTRPG guide it's not a super important detail, but I think it's worth mentioning that canon settled the Korriban vs Moraband argument.
These annual timelines are always fantastic! I'm always looking forward to it and get an concise update on what I've been missing the past year. It's amazing how strong the numerous stories in the SW universe connect and how they ultimately tell a large story and have become a true modern body of myths. And this timeline is the best of its kind: great flow, covers everything important but not bogged down.
Great job and much appreciated! And to be honest, I enjoy this video resource more than the Timelines book. You provide much more detail (Dathan being a Palpatine clone for instance) than the book provides. The Star Wars community is lucky to have someone like you to do this stuff. Keep up the GREAT work!
I just rewatched this video again, something I do several times a year although often as more of a background soundtrack while working on a project, or because im trying to verify a specific data set and then I just get sucked into the enjoyment of your very thorough but also perfectly-paced presentation of the Timeline. Today I was somewhat curious to see where the Canon timeline comes down on some of the ancient lore (as it pertains to characters like Exar Kun and Ulic Qel-Droma specifically) partially due to the imminent arrival of the Acolyte.. but also because of the arrival of May 4th. It's just after midnight on the east coast so technically it's Friday May 3rd where I am and I can't remember a year when May 4th meant quite as much to me as it does this year. I'm planning to see Phantom Menace, Tales of the Empire has me completely mesmerized, the Acoylte (in my opinion) holds some truly wonderful possibilities and surprises... I guess although there's always some doom and gloom within the Fandom, I haven't personally felt this excited for the future of Star Wars in many years. Not the way I felt before the prequels came out.. but maybe they way I was feeling after the Mandalorian arrived and once again it seemed like anything was possible! I can't wait to see your Canon update ...I will try to watch it this weekend honestly, or at least during next week. But even more, I can't wait to see what your Canon update holds for 2025. Thanks for all the hard work you put in every day to make star wars accessible and help it reach as wide an audience as possible. It really means a lot! May the Force Be With You
May the 4th be with you, and thank you as always for your continued hard work explaining Star Wars canon to the masses. As someone who tried to indulge on all the new canon and quickly got overwhelmed, this video was extremely helpful. Especially regarding the high republic era, an era of storytelling I have yet to truly explore outside of random Wookiepedia pages. You and Molly are both so wizard!
Every May 4th I look forward to these. I try my best to keep up with all the new stuff coming out but life happens. so even if the video has spoilers I still look forward to experiencing the stories (particularly the books). Thanks Alex and Mollie.
If you can, add Yoda’s force journey from Season 6 - I think it adds a lot to the lore and it’s a great thematic companion to Yoda’s mountain rock arc in the comics
Please never stop updating these I watch every single one you up date I need more long form starwars I'm a truck driver and I love putting on these long videos for my drive please keep it up
I really enjoyed this video. Thanks man for the work you put into doing this one! I like how I can go back and use this as a reference to any stories connected to the timeline.
Some important details were left out. The Raccatta invasions and liberations mentioned in Andor. Also how Tatooine was turned from a lush planet into a desert waistband as mentioned like 20 times in the book of Boba Fett
this is awesome. but it would've been cool if the "old republic" line could've been a bit longer so the destruction of "the father son and daughter" would be in the middle, symbolizing that the time it took, up until this point, that many years you have left going forward, like a mirror.
I'm impressed ~ not just that you're able to keep it all organized but that you can explain it for over 90 minutes. My asthma would've done me in an hour ago LOL My only suggestion is moving the explanation of BBY & ABY to the beginning. And that's pretty minor.

I just wanna say, thanks a whole lot for this. I'm really digging deep into Star Wars-lore, but very often time and motivation lack to read all of the novels or play all the video-games. It's especially great for The High Republic Phase 2, which I really don't know anything about.
Audio books are your best friend when it comes to this. I don't have much free time but my job requires a lot of driving so I can get through an audiobook in 1-2 weeks
@@angelagwen1818 The only problem I have with audiobooks, is that many of them aren't available in my language, so mostly I have to keep waiting for them.
I honestly don't get all the hate the new canon gets. Sure, I absolutely get the criticism of the sequels, but not why people hate canon in and of itself so much. I mean, canon gave us the later parts of TCW, Jedi: Fallen Order, the Bad Batch, the Vader comics, interesting lore like the world between worlds, etc.
The new canon is divisive. While there’s a lot of good stuff in the Disney canon. It can’t be understated that the bad in Disney Star Wars definitely to some degree has cast a shadow on the franchise.
