    I just assisted my friend in installing his setup into his 2012 Taco.
    It went pretty well and the only hiccups were on our part. I wish I could share pictures of the final project, it turned out great!
    Thanks for making such a great product and the video here helped immensely.

    Great video! Thanks! I was hoping you would show the "what ifs" of my 2nd Gen Taco not being exactly like yours. I have my kit in hand and this video will make it a breeze. Great work! I hope you're doing OK with Ida, but you're so far north, I am betting you are.

      Thank you Dave! The first bands of hurricane Ida just came through here, I think we got 3 inches of rain in 10 minutes!

      The installation went well yesterday and I used this video throughout. I sent a little feedback via email. Really happy with this setup in my Tacoma...thanks!

      The install process for the new Gen 3 version is exactly the same, but it only has one ground wire to connect to the factory ground clamp instead of 2 as shown in this video.

    I know this video is 3 years old, but do you need to get a higher voltage alternator in order to charge both batteries ?

  • @Kroxeno
    @Kroxeno ปีที่แล้ว

    I'd be more interested in upgrading to the Gen3 dual battery top if the accessory connections werent facing the outside edge of the hood ( very limited space ). Sure.. I could flip the top around 180 degrees, but then the Genesis logo would be upside down and that would poke my compulsive nerve.
    I have a high output 350 amp alternator and just learned recently that the Gen 2 dual battery kit is only rated for up to 200 amp alternator. Has been working fine for over a year since I'm not actually drawing more than 200 amps on a regular basis. Guess ill wait and see if a reverse logo top becomes available in the future.

      I completely understand. The orientation of the lid is important though. The cranking battery is connected to one side, and the aux battery is connected to the other side of the smart battery combiner device. There can be problems if the lid is installed reversed. If we mirrored the components on the lid so that the bus bars were closer to the fuse box, then the battery cables would look very messy.

  • @weloveversailles
    @weloveversailles 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Your kit definitely looks like a winner! I intend on adding some electrical accessories as I slowly build up our 2015 Taco; would it be just be redundant to also have a Blue Sea fuse block? Would one of those even be necessary since your kit already has negative/positive bus bars (or circles, actually) built into its design?

    • @GenesisOffroad
      @GenesisOffroad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks, glad you like it! Our bus bars give you a convenient spot to connect anything that needs direct battery power, but they don't have any sort of fuse built in. You could easily connect a Blue Sea fuse box to our bus bars because it needs power too. Then connect your accessories to the fuse box. Super easy.

    • @weloveversailles
      @weloveversailles 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GenesisOffroad thx for the reply! knowing that you gotta move the batteries back toward the firewall a little bit, do you know if there are any fitment issues if i were to use one of those fuse block mounting brackets, like the ones by overland equipped? or should that be mounted to the top of the factory fuse box in the engine bay?

    • @GenesisOffroad
      @GenesisOffroad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@weloveversailles it should be fine. Lots of people use those types of brackets near the fuse box, and we have not heard of any fitment problems yet.

      The battery area in the earlier Tacoma is smaller than the newer models, so unfortunately we don't have a kit specifically for your truck, but we do have a couple of universal options that may work for you. Here's a link to our universal single kit which allows you to remotely mount your second battery and then tie it into the one under the hood. www.genesisoffroad.com/universal-single-battery-kit

      Yes that’s correct. Our Gen 3 power hub will connect to the batteries just like the original kit did.

    Hi, if a solar system were to be installed, could the solar panel also be used to charge these batteries?

    • @GenesisOffroad

      Yes, it's super easy to add solar panels. We cover this topic in our Top 9 Questions video here - th-cam.com/video/tRe2Mjps0sg/w-d-xo.html

    How easy is it to replace the headlight bulbs?

    • @GenesisOffroad
      @GenesisOffroad  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not bad. I would just pull the batteries out. It only takes a few minutes to lift the Power Hub and remove the batteries. Some of our customers say it's quicker to detach the headlights so they can slide forward to get to the bulbs. But realistically you'll change the batteries far more often than the headlight bulbs over the life of the vehicle anyway. Hope this helps!

    • @GenesisOffroad
      @GenesisOffroad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We do have a kit for the 5th gen 4Runners, but their earlier models are a bit smaller, so unfortunately there isn't enough room to put 2 batteries side by side under the hood. We do have some universal options that may work for you though. You can see those options here - www.genesisoffroad.com/Universal_c_27.html

    Will this kit allow me to run a 24v ARB air compressor?

    • @GenesisOffroad
      @GenesisOffroad  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Our kit links the batteries together in parallel, meaning they are still 12v. If you need 24v, then you would need to link 2 batteries together in series. Our systems do not provide 24v. That would require custom wiring.

      Did you watch the video? All the Toyotas have no factory points to tie into. That’s why we show in great detail how to properly position the tray to securely bolt it down. It’s actually quite simple.

  • @joker-ik5ef

    I would not recommend this product until they change the mounting options. Those inserts aren't made well and I only got 4 in before it became a massive issue. I wrote a review on their website but after that I realized they don't actually show the reviews for their products anymore. Hmmm I wonder why.

    • @GenesisOffroad
      @GenesisOffroad  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@tdematties @joker-ik5ef Sorry I missed this message earlier. The challenge with all of the Toyota vehicles is that there is no factory mounting point for us to tie into, like we do in the Jeeps. When installed properly, the steel nutserts are very strong and reliable. It's definitely a challenge to install them by hand down in the engine compartment. It's about 1000% easier if you have a nutsert installation tool, which can pop those in place in a few seconds. We know most people don't have that tool, so that's why the video shows how to manually install them. It's a nice additional to your toolbox though, and you can grab a decent one from Harbor Freight for about $50, or a nice professional grade one from Marson for around a couple hundred. I got the Marson model MR34604 years ago when I was installing some fenders and body armor on a Jeep and I didn't want to spend 10 hours doing the nutserts by hand. But like any mod you're doing on your vehicle, it's important to take your time and do it right. If those nutserts aren't fully seated properly to squish the sheetmetal from both sides, they can become loose, allowing vibration in the battery tray which can cause them to fail. We don't want to see that happen! So if you are having trouble with that or anything else, please stop and give us a call and we'll be glad to offer some advise! 901-214-5337. Hope this helps! -Shane
