This is such a weird comparison. I just dont understand why these three utes are here. I mean obviously the $90k plus ute will be better than the $60k navarra. What was the exact process in selecting these 3 specific utes? Why was the SL warrior chosen over the Ntrek warrior? Shouldn't the Hilux Rogue be compared with the Ranger Wildtrak? This video is weird and the Judges have the easiest decision to make when your comparing $90k plus utes against $60k utes.
They are forgetting what this segment is about. It's about toughness, dependability, and longevity. If they tested this, the winner would have come last.
@@nickilijevskiforgive me but your thinking isn't practical and is biased. Just accept hilux will suffer heavily against the raptor. How would they test longevity on a new vehicle? You want them to travel into the future?
Just wish the raptor also had the v6 diesel as option. I know some peeps love the noise of a V6 petrol, fast acceleration but many like me would rather take the low down grunt of a the diesel to just quietly crawl my way though rough terrain or do some work when needed. Not to mention fuel consumption :(
Have a look at car experts review the petrol V6 smashed the diesels. Rock crawling is all about gear ratios. Your feel consumption point is valid but diesel is also more expensive than petrol at the moment
Absolutely crazy and when I was saying they were too expensive, the price of a luxury German vehicle, people were criticising me. To be clear, the people wanting to buy the vehicle were defending the price. The mental acuity of Australians is the sole reason why we pay what we do for vehicles here.
I find it ironic that the last-placed Navara is probably the most likely to be found Off-Road and the other two are least likely to leave the city because of how much they cost and the personalities of their owners.
Good video, but I don't think this was an "apples-to-apples" comparison, as others here have stated. The Raptor was always going to stand out since it's basically a different class of bakkie/ ute. It would've made more sense to compare it against something like a Gladiator
For Car of the Year we pick the best offering from each brand, yes the SL Warrior had a big price difference with the Ford but that gave it extra points in our criteria. Also last year the old Ranger Raptor beat the Gladiator so with no major update it didn't make the cut for testing this year.
Drive Car of the Year focusses on vehicles that are new up significantly updated within the last 12 months (plus previous year's winners when there is one, return to defend their title). Gladiator has been included in previous years, but has been knocked out, hence why it didn't feature this year.
With all these comparisons there is never a mention of the availability of after market service and parts and dealer networks. A very important consideration if you are travelling around Australia or in remote parts of Australia. My point being, you can have the best Ute in the market but if you can't get parts and service it's a usless purchase.
It terms of factory serving and part Toyota sits above Ford and Nissan specially in more remote areas. But we are testing these vehicles specifically as factory standard off-roaders not in regard to what the after market may or may not do. - Trent

The tow rating is misleading and poor towing rule concept of 10% weight on Towball. You don't need 350kg of weight on Towball. Wish we would update that concept in nz aus

Yep agree as an all rounder I'd definitely pick the raptor or Hilux as the Jeep is pretty agricultural on road but offroad I don't think anything in this comparison would be as good.
It lost to the outgoing Ranger Raptor in last year's testing, so it wasn't a finalist this year. You can watch the video here th-cam.com/video/6rZ_vl3UyJc/w-d-xo.html
@Drive.com.au so your telling me that a solid front and rear axle, twin locked ute with sway bar disconnect lost to an ifs ute? Offroad? Did you actually go 4wding on a decent track?
Towing limitations is a killer and reduced carrying limitations make it a no go as most offroad is about getting out there and enjoy the outdoors. Which means towing a Van or a camping trailer. With a fitted out tray. The reduction in load carrying also limits use for Farmers and tradesman sorry but this is a bad comparison drive.
Interesting review and the winner I predicted when I saw the thumbnail, no real context compared with other car review I watched recently as that was more informative and comprehensive. This review is predictable and boring and I think you guys will have to up your game as you basically have one off-road specialist carrying the channel.
For Drive Car of the Year we focus on new or updated competitors in the class, and invite last year's winner back (where there is one) to defend its title. This comes from a culmination of the preceding year's testing, and what you see in each category are the finalists. During the year we'll have SUV and Ute Megatests for a full, comprehensive overview of the entire segment.
On and on and on,what a load of baloney, it's all about the raptor, how about comparing apples with apples or factor in the $30 000 more than the sl nissan warrior. It,the raptor can't carry or tow as much and a whole lot less than the Toyota rouge, also less leg room in the rear ,don't forget $20 000 more than the rouge. The raptor has a narrow band width of use. The rouge is the winner 👍👍👍
Yeah I drove both. I got hunting, and do a bit of snow work, little bit of sand. I ordered the raptor. It shits all over it. Unless your hauling a van around Aus, then I probably would have got a platinum with the v6 td. And I’m a Toyota man. Be interesting to see the new Hilux.

You can tell who pays the bills for sure
They are forgetting what this segment is about. It's about toughness, dependability, and longevity. If they tested this, the winner would have come last.
Ford sponorship for sure. Payload only gets a small mention, if im in the market for an off road touring ute, payload is a major consideration
@@nickilijevskiforgive me but your thinking isn't practical and is biased. Just accept hilux will suffer heavily against the raptor. How would they test longevity on a new vehicle? You want them to travel into the future?
@calvinsinvula1731 Which 4x4 ute would you pick to do a lap around Australia?
When you purchase your new Ford im sure you will be off road more than on road. Expect jaw dropping customer service.
I think after sales service should be a category. I've brought a new Ford and will never buy another one their service is appalling.
@Christopher Holden they have perfected bad
Lol this review is a joke in comparison to what car expert did. And you are missing the Gladiator

@markyes ahmen. The old raptor was so slow and boring
My vote is for the Nissan, it's all you need & the market lacks cheaper off-road capable utes.
Bad choice
Good to see the Old Dog Hilux pulling its weights against the new kids on the block
I just can’t get over how expensive these have gotten. The Raptor is $96k drive away. Even the regular Ranger is crazy expensive.
Absolutely crazy and when I was saying they were too expensive, the price of a luxury German vehicle, people were criticising me. To be clear, the people wanting to buy the vehicle were defending the price. The mental acuity of Australians is the sole reason why we pay what we do for vehicles here.
they’re laughably overpriced for what they are. surely one would have to feel silly after paying $90k+ for a damn ute…
Less than it’s big brother the f150 raptor gen 3 at 270 k
I hear the new VW Aventura 3.0 Diesel and Panamericana 2.3 Gasoline top specs are expensive than Raptor.
@@victorodera4175 Absolute madness.
God, 2023 just start it... Too early to say best Ute in 2023 ....
I think I would take the Navara, the price of the Raptor is too far out of reach for me..
As I have said you can tell who pays the bills

When is an Everest Raptor going to be available. Would suit me beautifully.
Everest Raptor would sell like hotcakes. Even just dropping the TTV6 in it. The suspension would be good but an affordable 300kw wagon would sell.
Time to peer pressure Ford!
Let's see which one will still be running in 10 years time! 😆
Does hill decent control work in reverse, anyone know??
Yes it does. Its a separate feature too. I think there is one in Toyota
Gladiator Rubicon? I thought this was a "best of off road" comparison.

Beautiful countryside. Where is that?
Near Lithgow NSW
Seems conveniently timed, right after carexpert did a much more comprehensive test on all the dual cabs.

Any reason there is not Jeep Gladiator rubicon in this comparison?

Didn't like this review I feel it missed the mark. Which is disappointing as i look forward to hearing opinions for these reporters
Would be great if Drive can do offroad review of SUVs. Utes arent practical for everyone, tbh most i see dont have carry anything in the back
We have best off-road SUV coming out soon, Jeep Grand Cherokee v Ford Everest v Land Rover Defender.
@@Drivecomau If you can fit in some Toyota and Mitsubishis as well, that would be great :)
You guys are raptors enthusiastic thus why u highlight it almost 90per cent
For all of our 2023 DCOTY videos we focused on the winner of the category. We have detailed single car reviews of the other vehicles at our website.
"Doesn't get more better than that" Yes, it does. The Wrangler Galdiator would Trump these and I'm not even a Jeep fan.

For sure your right but they are terrible on road prefer a Raptor

90k car is better than 50k car, what a shock.
The best offroad ute and don't include the Gladiator..... the only ute specifically designed for off road

Awkward comparison, but anyway, the Rogue is by far the best out of these due to it’s reliability and longevity

I like the video, but compared with Raptor, i think something is not right, Raptor costs an extra 20k plus more.
The ranger us a third more expensive than the Nissan, it's hardly a fair comparison
