  • Did I tell you that this could be my new favourite Victorinox SAK?? Well this makes an excellent carry - paired with my Midnite Manager or a Clasic SD. Very capable for outdoor/gardening basic tasks.
    A great combination of tools including the Main blade, hawkbill/pruning blade, in-line Awl, Saw and Screwdriver/caplifter/wire bender.
    It is sort of the outdoor version of the Pioneer... Check out my review of the Pioneer X Alox: • Ultimate URBAN EDC Com...

    My favourite alox, I have a blue one which was bought the same day I found out a friend passed away. So for the reason alone ……..it’s a keeper!

    The hawkbill blade, isn't used as shown on 2:10, you use it in a draw cut motion,diagonaly towards next to yourself. We use such blades, to harvest grapes, fruits etc, thus it's original name, the Alox Harvester. I've used hawkbills for a month each year,since 1986, to harvest grapes from the huge vineyards we got here in Crete Island of Greece.

    • @MB_EDC
      @MB_EDC  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You caught me out 🤣. I was struggling to use it properly without pressing it against my thumb (which is effective but not so safe)

    • @greekveteran2715
      @greekveteran2715 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@MB_EDC That's what I'm trying to say. To use it properly and thus safely,you don't use your thumb with a hawkbill, you hold the knife in your fist,you use your other hand to hold the fruit or branch and use a draw cut motion,aiming diagonaly, next to your arm (the arm that holds the fruit) Sorry for my English, it's not my native language.

    It's my favorite Alox! Harvester which is original name, is the most uderrated Alox model, better than the Farmer, best for what the Alox models where meant for.

    Great knife! This sits in my pocket EDC pouch for the awl, saw and hook blade. The other tools in the pouch: Kai 4" 7100 scissors, 711L Lollipop bit driver, Steinwhale Stubby 10 in 1 bit kit with extender, LeverGear Edge XT pry bar with retractable exacto blade, 3 Swords Germany sapphire file, Knipex Cobra XS pliers and Uncle Bill's Silver Gripper tweezers. The pouch is a Leatherman killer - better in almost every respect.

      @@MB_EDC Thanks! The pouch is a Viperade VE-18 small. It's wallet sized and easily fits in my back pocket.

      @MB_EDC  20 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @ParkerBinion Interesting. I'll take a look at that. I have used the Viperade VE10 and the Knipex pouch a lot. I have a couple of videos on these individually and have a comparison video planned in a coupler of weeks!

    • @ParkerBinion
      @ParkerBinion 20 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@MB_EDC I just watched some of the Leatherman replacement videos. The Knipex pouch is cool but much thicker than the VE18-S. Topeak ratchet is great, but I find that the 711L Lollipop spin top works like an inline ratchet. I do carry a small 711L hex end ratchet in case I need more torque than the Lollipop L-handle can provide. The GridIt looks a little large to me. The VE10 looks awesome. The VE18 doesn't open up like a book, so you can store more things in the VE10. That's good and bad as you know. The tendency is to cram it full although you kept it pretty slim in the video. The VE10 looks similar to my Sayram SP1 EDC pouch which I keep in my bag because it is so crammed full LOL

    • @MB_EDC
      @MB_EDC  20 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @ParkerBinion Thanks for watching. In my next version I with be using the Steinwhale bits. I hate to see some of those crammed pouches. People stuff too much in and I don't believe they pocket carry them. The Knipex pouch is a good belt carry option.

    You know I'm always raving about this one and it is very often my no 2 carry when working .

    Nice one Mark. FYI - there's a company in Bristol that customises Alox models, replacing the pins with screws, ceracote colours on the scales and any viable combination of toolset - which might allow you to put the scissors in. I've been tempted. Al I need to do is sacrifice 2 alox as donors... now that's hard...

    The can opener makes a great spudger and after needing a philips screwdriver to remove an inspection cover and only having a Pioneer to hand, I found a lot of te time, the 2D phillips gets the job done. It's also good at scraping small areas. The SWISS ARMY 7 is a great gardeners tool though and if that was my thing, that's what I'd have in my pocket. The 93mm range is general are great knives, thicker blades/screw drivers, a really useful awl and much more premium feeling.

    • @MB_EDC
      @MB_EDC  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think between the Pioneer X and the Army 7 you are covered for an urban or country carry. Maybe (as per Steve’s comment below) the Farmer X is the best option to cover both. Otherwise it means going down the custom route. Which is expensive, but considering I have bought several SAKs it might have saved me money in the long run.

    • @strongandco
      @strongandco 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MB_EDC If I'm going for a walk/day out in the countryside i'll carry a Farmer X in my rucksack because there's a genuine chance I might use the scissors or the saw but the hidden fuction that smaller knives like the Pioneer have compared to the Pioneer X or the Farmer X is the ability to be carried unobtrusively. If a pocket knife becomes too obtrusive, eventually it will get left at home.

    • @MB_EDC
      @MB_EDC  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @strongandco True. I have the Hercules which is an amazing SAK. It’s not UK legal and is heavy - so I just use it around the house/garden
