    Thanks for reviewing this! I've never owned an alox knife before but I've wanted one of these ever since I saw it a couple years ago - just never pulled the trigger on ordering one. However, I'm rather disappointed to see they left off the lanyard ring - seems like a needless omission. Almost makes me want the farmer instead but that shorter blade looks so useful.

      It sticks into your hand when using the blade or saw hard so many agree it is a negative not a positive.

    I have a #7 and bought it for the hawksbill, for use in mushrooming. It is a very functional tool but I do wish it had a lanyard ring so I could hang it in my pocket as it is a little long for the pocket bottom. Also think the combo opening tool instead of the cap lifter/screw driver would have been a better choice.
    As you said, the blades are wickedly sharp.

      A small leather pouch (closeable) with belt facilities.
      Thread a shoe lace between and to be hanged around your neck. Etsy sells tons of different models. GOOD LUCK.

    I would love to get an "X" version of it,say, with a pair of scissors, over farmer X, since I use saw and scissors the most frequently, ard have no use for a can opener. The pruning blade is welcome, for I get to cut package strips quite often. Well, I guess that woudd make "Swiss Army 8" Thanks for very useful review.

    If you have any trouble finding the rancher or pruner etc we have them in the UK If you have any trouble then message me and I’ll point you in the right direction.Ive had the harvester for about 6yrs and love it but as an allrounder I still prefer the farmer. I use the reamer for packages, works fine. That hawkbill blade when whittling or any outdoors woodwork seriously comes into its own!! The amount of material it can take off in one go is scary from such a small blade... also the diversity of materials it can go through including seat belts!
    But be careful, out of all the Victorinox and Leathermans I handle that blade bites and I mean bites! That curve over a short length can catch you unawares! Lmao 😂

      I’ve just read something that may interest you if you didn’t know. Victorinox made a limited edition of 350 units of the Harvester X in 2020 for a collector’s society.
      It’s a Farmer X in which the can opener was replaced by a pruning blade. They engraved the year 2020 on the blade and made the handle in black. It’s a collector piece for now, they’ll probably launch it someday.

    I had chance to try the saw blade of a Rebar and a 91 mm SAK saw blade. My opinion is that while the Leatherman saw did a very good job on dry wood it was very lacking on wet living wood. The Vic saw managed to do both very well. The Leatherman saw’s teeth got full of wood parts from the fresh branch and it just made the whole process really awkward.

    Some other models also had the pruner blade, for example the Sea Rancher (or Long Rancher) and the First Mate. But those are rare and hard to find.
    It was also used in some special runs like the Wilderness and the Electrician Dou and Electrician Dou Plus - those are even harder to find, only 50-100 pieces exist.
    Recently ther was also a Pruner Solo, with the hawkbill blade only, in silver for a Swiss collector, and in yellow for Bugnard.
    And the hawkbill blade is/was also available on some Cellidor knives, like the Picnicker, Master Gardener, the original Outdoorsman, and of course the larger SwissChamps (XL, XLT etc.).

    Best saw imo is the surge because you can put any saber saw blade on that you want. Nice vid. I use a Delica 4 wharncliffe blade for packages and need nothing else. It has the full serrated (Spydiedge) and riding the first serration gets you a nice controlled shallow cut. I just ordered the Swiss army 7. Your vid sealed the deal, thanks.

    If I was aware of this variant at the time I would have bought it instead of the Farmer, I have a GI style can opener that can be slung in my rucksack if that was needed, don't necessarily need one on my knife. The little hook blade would be great for carving and I just like having a second blade, my only criticism of the Farmer is the lack of a small secondary blade. Yes, my ideal SAK would be this with a set of tweezers and the plastic scales you get on the old German Army knife, scissors would be nice but not a deal breaker.

    The Harvester and the Pioneer X need to have a love child: Harvester X with this toolset except replace the saw with scissors. Also make sure it has the loop on it for keychains/danglers/paracord. I realize this toolset is primarily for gardening/yard work, but the hawkbill blade is such a good shape for precision tasks or package opening that to me it beats out the need for a can opener/philips driver

      @@txtoolcrib Like you said, the small hawkbills are perfect box cutters. But I like the even larger ones for gardening... I have the Byrd FRN Hawkbill (size of the Tasman Salt) and I *really* hope they reintroduce the Spyderhawk. And speaking of Victorinox, check out their new folding serrated paring knife... best all-purpose food knife. The blade is over 4 inches long, liner lock, 1.5 ounces, dishwasher safe and comes in different colors. Plus it has no tip, so it’s hard to imagine anyone getting frightened by it. It’s obviously not a hard use utility knife, but it’s perfect for food and light tasks.

    That pruner/hawk bill is a feathersticking machine once you learn to use it. I wish they'd dump the bottle opener for the can opener. There are literally hundreds of ways to open a bottle that work as good or better than that piece of crap. A can opener on the otherhand is an actual multipurpose tool.

      Victorinox normally only produces silver Alox (except their own limited editions) but shops can order colored versions (currently they can choose red, black, blue and dark green).
      I can only recall one shop now that has the Harvester in green: LCSAS in Switzerland. You can find them on ebay, too, just search "LCSAS Harvester".

    • @miklospinter
      @miklospinter 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@wretchpin Wow, what a great find! There are only 100 of those out there, made for +B in 2014 - and it's one of the most sought after Alox colors (and I can understand why...)

    • @miklospinter
      @miklospinter 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@wretchpin $375 is maybe too much though. There was an AP Green Sea Rancher on ebay: the auction ended with $280 yesterday, with just 1 bid. (And the models with marlin spike are probably more sought after than a regular model like the Harvester.)
      Nevertheles, your find is still incredible :)

    • @wretchpin
      @wretchpin 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@miklospinter agreed, although I've seen one listed for $400 and the only other one I've seen was bidding at $320. I'm slightly confused because the ones I've seen on eBay have key ring holders on them, and mine does not. Either way I love it and will stay in my collection indefinitely! (Still love my SAK compact a lil more though) heh.

    • @pruthvirajbhople

      Pros:
      Replaceable wire cutters
      Nice toolset
      Price
      Build quality
      Bit kit
      Cons:
      Short length knife
      Too wide when opened for small hands
      Not the best scissors
      .
      If you are interested in g302, take s look at splitman ghk6, it have best scissors in multitools (even better than any expansive multitool), replaceable wire cutters, long knife, not too wide, everything is good EXCEPT the toolset. It certainly have some tools less than g302 but all in all, it's yet another option to consider :)
