thanks for mentioning blood diamonds and the negative effects that buying diamonds can have on the area it was mined in, I really appreciate that since thats something that matters to me and my gf. very helpful video, thank you!
you should also keep in mind how much good the diamond mining industry does in these areas. responsible mining operations are the only source of income in these areas.
Solid video. Some things I like to add for those who really will save for that diamond ring: I think its best buying the stone and setting separate. You should be able to see the stone first and inspect it.Yes it may have all the specs but its best to see it up close and personal. Reputable websites have a time frame return policy, you can use that to see the stone. A solitare round ideal (or super ideal) is wonderful. Round is best for maximum brilliance. I think the single diamond is representative and pave diamonds or smaller ct diamonds around the entire ring for me takes away from the special center stone. (except for a 3 stone piece). The tiny diamonds say in an infinity band are not special cut anyway. Stores like tiffany and cartier usually have small lights just above their collection to overemphasize the brilliance also, and are way too overpiced. Knowing your partner’s ring size is beneficial. Once you determined that or have a fair idea; I say start looking at 1-1.5cts and see where you stand. Too big of a diamond is disproportional, same with too small of one. You dont need a flawless and the whitest of diamonds (D,E,F). You can get away with a G H I. Even j K L there are some yellow hues, but for a high quality ideal round cut that maximizes brilliance, That yellow hue really brings out a firey brilliance. Also it’s very hard to tell the diffrence between say an F and an H just at a glance. To save on price, vvs1 or 2 is already high end, but vs1 and vs2 you still cant see with the naked eye. If the miniscule speck inclusion is towards the circumference of the diamond it can be hidden with the crown of the setting you use for the diamond. I wouldnt go to an si1, the inclusions become more apparent and they start affecting the brilliance. Lastly I agree with the platinum setting, it’s more robust, wont scratch or tarnish as easily as gold, and it is a harder metal.
I personally prefer the clarity of lab created gems over mined. And, I prefer moissanite due to its higher dispersion, or fire. I also like at least some color. But, it will come down to what she wants.
Many jewelry sales people such as myself must take certification courses to become diamontologists, which normally takes a year of study. Even though we are not bench jewelers, there does exist a standard of expertise and professionalism among those who earn their living in this particular retail business. You are correct that they are commission sales people, but in this line of service they are also expected to be people with high standards of integrity, and must able to follow careful protocols in how they work with both gemstones and customers. I've been doing this a while and occasionally think of myself more as a butler, serving people at a very special, exciting moment in their lives. I consider myself privileged to add to the dignity and presentation of the ring in some small way. To that end, I believe I do play a helpful role in this process.
As a fellow Jewelry sales person, I definitely agree. If you want to stay on budget, a jewelry chain is a good place to look because they have sales and clearance items and you get to see it in person. We work very hard for our guest/ customers and building a relationship takes work, it's not just one sale we want them to be with us for life! We become a part of all the gift giving occasions
That’s actually something I’ve never considered. I suppose you’d buy an engagement ring like anybody else but then what? Assuming she says yes then would she be expected to buy you one as well? Then exchange the wedding bands on your wedding day? It’s possible though that one might prefer the plain band…then you could do it more traditionally? Depending which one of you wanted which type of ring? In the end, you should probably discuss it with each other and decide what works best for you. As long as you’re both happy with whatever you decide then it should be fine :)
very smart video, great job and excellent delivery! my bf is actually using a diamond given to him for me by his grandmother which he had a goldsmith fitting into a ring. ☺
Gentleman's Gazette This was interesting for me as I actually work in a jewellers specialising in antique pieces. The difference in prices can be astounding! :)
Or simply ask a jeweller to keep it within your budget. That’s what people don’t seem to understand. You can buy an affordable diamond ring, you just have to choose a different color and clarity and you can actually have the diamond ring You want for a cheaper price
Just when I think I couldn't like your videos any more, you begin dropping truth bombs about the inflated cost of diamonds. P.S. I've fallen behind on my viewing, and these videos are very timely because I'm going to a wedding in October. :D
maybe because diamonds are not rare, and you claim they are. Sounds like you were paid to do an promotional video. And unless its a larger diamond 1ct+ with a perfect cut and clarity good luck selling it....
All youtube videos have an average of 10% dislikes... people don't like the topic, or the voice, or the length, or the light, or the accent, or god knows what.
That's the safest approach. I did get married, but total cost was the price of two WC bands. Both of us agreed that we would rather save our money for things other than a large wedding or an asset that depreciates as much as a diamond ring.
Great video! Just a few things: Diamonds aren't made of graphite; both diamonds and graphite are distinct forms of carbon. There are natural diamonds without inclusions, they're just more expensive. The average diamond is not exactly 'rare', their supplies and costs are controlled by corporations and they're marketed as rare.
Diamonds aren't rare, that's true but Gem quality diamonds that are pretty and clear enough for jewelry is rare. It takes many years of apprenticeship to be able to cut diamonds so that drives cost as well 👍🏾
Kay’s style fits my girlfriend so perfect they age so many cute pieces that look like they were made for her, but every singe piece I’ve got her has had an issue with build quality besides for a pair of stud earrings.
Most important thing is that the size suits the woman. Even a 0.50 carat might look too big on a small woman. 0.30 carat is already quite a decent size for a smaller hand.
James Allen actually manufactures diamonds for Tiffany & co! I read this I believe on their about us. They are based online and you can start with the setting all the way to selecting type of metal to diamond 💍. I just would rather go to a jeweler in person if I’m going to spend that much $$$. What’s your opinion on Jared? I know they are a chain of stores and even part of Kay I think 🤔? For me it all comes down to the look and what warranty plus return policy is in place. Yes, I’d shop around too at least 2-3 places to compare.
You mentioned your first ring was vintage and bought online, did you buy it the right size right away or was there need to get it resized and if so how?
At the beginning you made the statement that buying an engagement ring is NOT an investment, it is an expense. Later in the video around 8 minutes, you discuss having the ring appraised independently after purchase and then rationalize doing this so that you can 'protect your investment'. So would u consider an engagement ring an investment or not?
As far as I know, the three month "rule"'s purpose was to be a financial insurance for the woman should the wedding be called off, or the man eventually died, so the wife (or fiancée) could have a temporary financial standing before putting things back together.
Once the ring leaves the store it’s not even worth half of the original price. The whole “financial insurance” aspect was a selling point of the diamond industry to encourage people to spend more.
Hi I enjoyed & learned from lot of your videos. I have a video request: The Best Birthday gift or Top 10 Birthday gifts to give as a Gentleman. Best Wishes for your future videos, ventures & buisnesses. Thanks in advance.
I’ve asked for a moissanite for 2 reasons, first I’m against diamond mining, second it’s cheaper than a diamond with almost the same hardness but a higher refractive index. I’ve also told him not to propose with a ring. What can I say, I’m a picky girl 😂
My boyfriend is giving me a ring calling it a friendship ring 💍 he bought it himself i gave him my ring size also he never brought me to any jewellery shop with my boyfriend he has never seen it before the one he has bought me i am from Ireland 🇮🇪 and I am wearing my claddgh ring on the left hand side of the finger now engaged only in January. I come from a jewellery family my mum gave me my claddgh ring my boyfriend will not let me know anything about the ring 💍 i never ask him about it. Cut is the thing that you shouldn't skimp. Go for that excellent cut, that's a LOT of that brilliance comes from.
I personally prefer the clarity of lab created gems over mined. And, I prefer moissanite due to its higher dispersion, or fire. I also like at least some color. But, it will come down to what she wants.
Great video sir! I needed this because I am on that level now with my gf. It is SO tough to find the perfect seller.
mxt mxt so true my friend!! I need to shop around to get a great deal and do it BIGGER on a nice honey moon. 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks
Oh how I wish I could've found this channel some years ago.
Haha, I am glad you found us now.

But how do I get engaged with another female human being?
Such a Millennial type of question.
not sure if the "another female" means youre gay or looking to marry multiple wives
@@AlphaWolfOverman02 That's quite closed-minded for a gentleman.
First of all, how do you engage in a conversation with another real female human being?
That’s actually something I’ve never considered. I suppose you’d buy an engagement ring like anybody else but then what? Assuming she says yes then would she be expected to buy you one as well? Then exchange the wedding bands on your wedding day?

This is a great overview - and definitely agree it's important to build a relationship with a jeweller that you can trust!!
Thanks for being the gentlemanly dad I needed at this time in my life I feel confident enough to go get the love my life a ring after this video
Great video. I already had a good idea about the subject and this was still informative.
Great video! "Its an expense not an investment" Agreed too.
Can I just say, I LOVE his choices for the engagement rings for his partner :O Emerald and garnet? YES. I would so prefer those over a diamond.
Thank you for this video, it actually gives tips on how to buy the ring and not just talking about the 4 C's like every other video.
I'm going with either a blue sapphire or ruby instead a diamond.
I didn't find particularly useful, but the fell you put on this video its worth the recognition, congratulation
Here bc I finally got the girl. I’ve never been happier. Thanks for the info!
very smart video, great job and excellent delivery! my bf is actually using a diamond given to him for me by his grandmother which he had a goldsmith fitting into a ring. ☺
Buy second hand or antique- you'll save a lot of money!
My words ;)

Or not get diamonds. Semi precious stones are nice
Where can I buy second hand? Ebay?
3:00 Lab created diamonds are real diamonds created under forced conditions. Carbon is carbon🤷🏾♂️
@Danny M lab grown diamonds ARE diamonds. Wiki that fact if you need to. Diamonds are actually much more common than people think.
Just when I think I couldn't like your videos any more, you begin dropping truth bombs about the inflated cost of diamonds.
P.S. I've fallen behind on my viewing, and these videos are very timely because I'm going to a wedding in October. :D
Great videos. Quick question. Why is the background moving?
Dang now I can't stop noticing it lol
I watched a few videos and this one actually did it for me
I thought I’d have to watch like 5 videos to get all this info. Thanks for being concise!
Why the dislikes? People need to CHILL out over here
On youtube you can do a video about teaching poor, blind orphans how acquire necessary life skills and people would still downvote it ;)
maybe because diamonds are not rare, and you claim they are. Sounds like you were paid to do an promotional video. And unless its a larger diamond 1ct+ with a perfect cut and clarity good luck selling it....
StackingtoMars, you didn't watch the video, huh? He kinda says that.
That...and probably because he calls man made lab diamonds "fake" and nature made earth diamonds "the real deal" as if lab diamonds aren't real.
All youtube videos have an average of 10% dislikes... people don't like the topic, or the voice, or the length, or the light, or the accent, or god knows what.
Biggest mistake you could make is to give DeBeers any money.
daviasdf Or to get married. :)

Extremely helpful video - loved how it explained both sides
Most important thing is that the size suits the woman. Even a 0.50 carat might look too big on a small woman. 0.30 carat is already quite a decent size for a smaller hand.
Most informative video I’ve come across so far on this topic. Thank you !

They absolutely do not. Tiffany is one of the very few companies that owns it's own diamond mine.
You mentioned your first ring was vintage and bought online, did you buy it the right size right away or was there need to get it resized and if so how?
Buy Antique its often cheaper, if you on a budget.
Wish me luck y’all ✊
Natürlich...wir Österreicher haben natürlich diesen Trend gestartet. Super.
(ich mag Silber und Saphire eh lieber)
ebay? could have talked more about trusting second hand purchases online. that seems so risky. how can you get it verified?

All the details very well put through. Thanks!
This video is help now if you have a video on how to tell a man what you want
Great videi I just found you're channel great work
GIA Cert is the way forward. At least you know it's of a decent quality.
Beautiful outfit.
You spelled color correctly, well done 😂
@Danny M I prefer my English spellings Murican 👍👍
I’ve asked for a moissanite for 2 reasons, first I’m against diamond mining, second it’s cheaper than a diamond with almost the same hardness but a higher refractive index. I’ve also told him not to propose with a ring. What can I say, I’m a picky girl 😂
Why are you against mining.
This was very informative
This guy looks like Gomez Adams from the Adams Family.
Appreciate it for simple and clear explanation😘❤️
Failed to inform as to where to find an independent appraiser.
@5:54 destroyed accidentally under a door?! That's unbelievable😂😂😂
How much
Yeah, diamonds aren't everything...Garnet, turquoise, lapis lazuli, rubies, sapphires, pearls, they are very beautiful too))))
Great tips!
Hey man thank you 👏
Very helpful video!
Wonderful presentation!
Very informative!
Does anyone know some popular trustworthy sites that won’t break the bank? I’m trying to purchase one online but don’t exactly know where to start. Any help is appreciated.
rindzyub blue Nile
Thank you for your video 📹
My boyfriend has bought it online so I have no idea how it looks like but why is hiding it he is a lovely person he just calling it a friendship ring from from in a box asking me a red box sliver only 14th of December he is giving it to me why
Nothing about the proper attire to wear when buying this engagement ring?!
Why is my boyfriend hiding it very well and why did he go to jewellery shops himself i gave him my ring size also I am just engaged now and happy wearing my claddgh ring ring as my engagement ring i have no clue of what my boyfriend got me i come from a jewellery family but I don't understand what a friendship ring 💍 he bought himself only
It is not graphite it is carbon graphite is a form of carbon just as diamond and Buckminster
Think about, the ring is literally only there to flex
That means alot to women though.
Why is my boyfriend hiding a friendship ring from him a box and just engaged why has he only given me this ring on Saturday 14th of December he told me 2 weeks time. That is up now he bought it all I gave him my size so he can get it and the one I like 8 years together now I am just wearing my claddagh ring on the outside of my finger now engaged 8 years together now we are depply in love and happy together soild he only said it is a ring in a box I don't know how it looks like he is hiding it very well
He has bought it all himself why is it up 2 weeks soailtre i told him I only love
Yes. Vintage can mean pawn shop.
Unmarried me : Why i'm watching this video?
This video aged really well considering the war going on right now.
Every woman likes to say that their ring came from Tiffanys and Co because of the film, “breakfast at Tiffany’s”
Big fan of the Gentleman's Gazzette, but what's up with the anit-Israel rhetoric at 1:38? Very disappointing and factually incorrect.
Cubic zirconia is almost as sparkly and 1% the price. I'd rather have the extra money.
Justin you get what you pay for, that goes for gemstones and significant others 🤷🏻♂️
Also CZ has nothing on a diamond. Also it’s more than just brilliance. It’s hardness too, which determines longevity. Moissanite is a great alternative because it’s almost as hard as diamond with similar (or better) brilliance.
That is the Lab diamond
Lab diamonds are real diamonds dork.
I'm still confused and I don't even know her ring size
Amen
Says it’s not an investment but an expense, but rest of the video he calls it an investment.
Pro tip : diamonds are expensive. Make sure that the woman you're proposing isnt a 304
Did this guy just say he had a $400 allowance?
have her buy it herself to see that she is not just a gold digger
WTH! u hv money u can buy. But diamond is bigges scam trade.
It’s crazy how men in the states are obligated to spend a fortune on a ring - something that has solely been created by advertising, movies and so on. It’s pretty dumb, to be honest, because it has nothing to do with the actual meaning behind an engagement. It’s about two lovers, not a piece of metal and compressed, crystallized coal. My fiancé told me that she’d be very upset if I buy her anything more expensive than 150 bucks because she absolutely hates this whole engagement ring hype
How to buy an engagement ring? First.....find lots of money.
Like your other videos, but you really don't know about jewelry and engagement rings especially
Thanks for this video - but I think your wife ruined that first ring on purpose... 😉 LOL
Costco. Seriously.
why this dude looks like he's trying to scam me
Scam you out of your pants
I have paused this to say that if you tell us that it should cost three months' salary then I'm unsubscribing.
Then you should watch it again, because I am saying NOT to do that.
sourcescience three months salary is not a lot though. For a person you probably want to live your whole rest of life with...
But in any case, I think it shouldn't be more than 10k.
Here's another tip for the men out there. Ask your special lady what she really wants. Not all women care for diamond and would prefer other gem stones. My wife for example loved alexandrite way more than diamond. Which is great for me because personally, I find diamonds overused and boring.
You missinforming public.
Why
Watch me buy the least ethical diamond I can possibly find.
How to buy an engagement ring? Don't buy one!
This!
That’s poor people talk. Will you also not buy a flash car as well someday?
Diamonds are a con and ridiculously over priced and not rare in the slightest.
Really not worth the money.
Nobody wants to know the history. Get to the point!
Seven consecutive videos about weddings ?
Come on, Raphael ... You can do better.
My thought as well.... maybe he can insert some piratical everyday topics among them, if he really really want to talk about weddings.
It's summertime folks. It works.
Emanuel, he's doing a video _series_ on wedding topics for gentlemen. Raphael has stated that since the beginning of this series since the live chat.
Just boring! :)
Yet you took enough time out of your day to show up here. Just stating the facts.
this one weird looking dude
Excellent video!!!!!
