    My man was definitely on board with my expectations. I already knew exactly which ring I wanted. I showed him a picture and, while seeming to get a bit nervous, he just said whatever I wanted, he’d make happen.
    Then he saw the price and was FLOORED. I chose a ring with a beautiful moissanite center stone. He was even more surprised when I told him that that was the price for both the engagement ring and wedding band together :)
    Now a day’s, women can get extraordinarily beautiful rings without having to spend a fortune. 2-3 months of his pay? I’d never be comfortable with him spending that much!!!
    Diamond aren’t the only option anymore.

      I agree! I wouldn't have let my husband spend all that money when he proposed.I call my engagement ring "minimalistic"- it's actually very stylish and beautiful and it didn't cost the earth.

    2-3 months seems awfully excessive. I know you said that was max, but still... My goodness! I wish girls would realize that the ring is just a symbol. You might need that money for much more important things. My hubby picked out my ring on his own, as a 19 year old. He did a great job and didn't spend a ton. I still love him and we are still married 11 years and 4 kids later!

      I agree, im going ring shopping tomorrow my budget is 1500 or less. We do very well for ourselves but neither of us wear jewelry so I dont see the reason in spending a tremendous amount of money.

      Hi, im wondering how do guy buy ring for marriage proposal and it suit her girl finger and not too big or too small. Im confuse.

    • @ChachiTelevision1979
      @ChachiTelevision1979 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      EmeryShae Haha, I can understand that. My personal opinion, and the opinion of others, is generally one month’s salary.
      I just bought a ring for about 2 month’s, but that was mostly my limit - had I seen an amazing ring that happened to be less, I would have had no shame in getting it for a month’s. I put funds aside for about 10 months specifically for a ring, so it was a gradual accumulation.

      Yes! Smart people in this section! My S.O could spend that, but why?! Making memories, puchasing a house, taking vacations, replacing furniture, a roof, a car etc are all so much more important than a huge rock on your finger. A ring is suppose to be a symbol of the love you share. Size is not based off how much you care.

    My engagement ring was $25 - the cost to resize and clean his great-aunt's engagement ring. Love it. Get compliments on it all the time. I'm glad he didn't spend $$$ on it.

    Remember guys, this is meant to last you your entire life diamonds are strong enough to last forever that is why they’re expensive, money comes and goes, don’t go broke obviously but don’t cheap out either get what you can afford 2-3 months is a lot 1.5-2 months is more reasonable

    Really nice to see a woman point out the craziness that some ladies have regarding ring expectations. I once had someone tell me that thing ring was an investment in her and should be appropriately sized, ie no less than 2 carats. Needless to say we moved on from each other; not because I felt 2’carats was too much, but as you said, it was an indicator of future problems to come

  • @AoMProContent

    Anything over $2000 max for an engagement ring AND wedding band is a terrible investment. $2000 is pushing it.

    • @videostartsat0007
      @videostartsat0007 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      exactly, she said maximum 2-3 months pay, but thats like 3800-5500 dollars for me, thats a bit much for a ring if u ask me.. or does she mean the 2-3 month pay remainder after insurance, rent, electricity, gas ? in that case it would be under 2K

    • @hobbyhive
      @hobbyhive 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I also agree. After tax I earn $4,000 a month, I couldn't imagine a man buying me the equivalent of a $8,000-$12,000 ring. That could pay for a good portion of the wedding!

    • @sf4756
      @sf4756 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well it's not an investment! Its an expense. Now if you can't afford more then 2k fine! But if you can she deserves it! Pluse take some pride open the change purse a little more👍

    Cost depends on where you are in life. Im 51 and just bought an engagement ring for the first time. I paid about 2-3 months salary but I had the money. I wouldn't have had the money when I was 25.

    There are so many diamond alternatives you can get A LOT with one week’s pay now a days. There’s moissanite, white sapphire, blue sapphire, morganite, opal, and even lab created diamonds if you insist. If a diamond is what you truly want and you can’t afford it just wait or buy something like a cubic zirconia as a starter, then you can always replace the stone or whole ring later.

  • @compulady5
    @compulady5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A tip I just learned- bare with me here. He gave me a budget and I was going to get a Moissanite ring. I spent some time on Reddit and realized that I could get a lab grown diamond for the same price. Brought it up to the Mr., he preferred a diamond. I took that budget and off to do more research! We ended up with a beautiful diamond ring! Online shopping is the way to go! I recommend Clean Origin or Ritani!!
    For us, two grown adults that are completely independent, he wanted to be traditional and buy me the ring. He chose a budget on what he was comfortable with,
    and not off the two-three month salary you’re saying. It worked great and I don’t feel guilty.

      Ferguson101 I would give you 15 thumbs up...but it wont let me. I understand buying a ring can be fun, but if some woman is more concerned about the size of the rock on her finger than she is the one who she is actually gonna marry....choose someone else.

      Two weeks sounds about right. Or what you would save in a month perhaps, there's no real rule, but around that. Diamond engagement rings are the product of the best marketing campaign ever.

      Or something you can pay for when the bill comes. Another thing to consider is, how expensive of a ring she is going to be comfortable wearing. It might be a lot more comfortable to wear a ring from $300.-$500. than $3,000.-$5,000.

      You can do both as long as you aren’t already in a ton of debt. Rings don’t need to be 2-3 months of income and you don’t have to buy the most expensive house.
      It is all possible if one is knowledgeable and responsible.

    Just a heads up; you and your significant other know best on her taste. DON’T GO BROKE!
    That said, it’s not a bad idea to consider sustainability of the ring. My fiancé isn’t a fan of gold/yellow jewelry. While white gold is cheaper than platinum, I knew the white would wear off over 10-20 years and begin to have a yellow-ish look. So I decided to put some extra away for a platinum ring. No shame in wanting her to look at the same ring at age 60 the same way she did at 25.

    I saw many discussions about the 2-3 months thing, I think what she meant is more about "how much sacrifice" than "how much money", and also that is "no more than". So it's more like "don't sacrifice more than 3 months of your effort on a ring" instead of "paying 10-15k of money", it's not about money, it's about how much effort of yours. My grammar is bad but I hope I made my point.

  • @ciannacoleman5125
    @ciannacoleman5125 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I’ve never understood paying thousands of dollars for rings. To me having a big stone would be a pain since it would get caught on stuff, plus I told my bf that I didn’t want a diamond since they are pretty but boring (I am a color girl), and yes I know diamonds are the strongest stone but that doesn’t make them the only lasting stone. I have seen plenty of good quality rings that are only a few hundred dollars, and yes they are usually with semiprecious stones not diamonds but I think any ring can be an engagement ring because it is a symbol and should fit the couple.

This is what its wrong with this world, put so much focus on a ring rather important things in life, dont spend more than 3k on a ring for engagement save that money for when the time comes and treat you and your woman to a nice beautiful honey moon or save for the future, no way A woman “needs” an expensive ring for you to prove her love to her, actions speak louder and rings and words, good luck to anyone reading this and treat her like a queen every day

  • @IDriveAnAudi

    One tip is to never go to a brick and mortar shop unless you are buying a vintage piece, or just to look at styles and sizes. then go online to James Allen or Blue Nile to get the diamond and setting. Save yourself the massive markup costs, have a selection that is almost endless, typical 30 day money back guarantees, totally insured shipping by the seller, and the benefits go on from there.

    Brace yourself comments by douchebags are coming. look you don't have to get her a ring, you don't have to spend a crazy amount, this is only a suggestion to those who do want to get a ring for their partner. And girls getting engagement rings for their fellas is also becoming quite popular. Let's try to have an open mind about this and not just make it a guy buying for a girl. No matter your sexual orientation, if you want to propose and are pretty sure they would want a ring go for it. Guys can have engagement rings too if they want.

    See I didn't want him to spend a lot of money on my ring and I kind of settled on something I didn't love, but he did and it was in a budget I was comfortable with. He was willing to blow his whole savings account on it and I was like no more than $1200 because that's all we can afford. Fast forward two years I got sick two months after he proposed so we couldn't get married or I would be off my parents health care plan(ends at 26, and we've been together since we were 15).....and now I'm thinking I just want a nice simple solitaire ring. Since mine keeps falling apart. How do I ask him to let me buy it? Probably won't do it for another year, but still.

    Swarovski cubic zirconia is just as sparkly and beautiful as a real diamond if you must have the bling. No one can tell the difference except gemologists. It’s best to buy a plain gold band for the wedding band if you can afford it. Debeers makes way too much money selling compressed carbon crystals to jewelers.

      Patriots4Trump #MAGA I went with an awesome James Allen platinum ring. My finance is the type that would pass her ring down if she could, so I made a conscious decision to go with something that had sustainability.
      That said, I’m with you. If you’re a bit more limited or have other financial goals in mind, getting a quality Swarovski ring may be a great alternative. Better to be financially savvy and creative than a big spender and then broke.

    My boyfriend makes good money but theres absolutely no way I'd ever expect or let him pay 2 months salary on a ring. He can spend 2-4 weeks of pay on a ring. It's just a ring. We have a life to build and memories and trips to make we wouldnt be able to do if the rock on my finger was larger.

  • @lbufal28
    @lbufal28 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    2 to 3 months salary is a pretty goofy standard, that's a hella lot of money for someone making 6 figures lol. Considering diamonds aren't really worth anything and are rocks that are marked 300- 1000% over true value you are already pretty much guaranteed to be throwing money out the window. Diamonds were literally created to trick women into valuing things with no value at all. I say keep your ring reasonable so you can afford to maybe take your girl on a nice trip, Ireland, Italy, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa. Idk but I have a hunch most people w a brain wouldn't mind a ring and a life experience or just the benefit of not starting your life together in debt.

    I gave my lady friend a budget on what I can work with, and found 3 really nice I popping rings.
    She has had a habit of going to the jewelry store alone looking at engagement rings. I told her not to go alone without me, because those sales people can be..........pushy
    So I already had a ring picked out and it's in my price range, I was actually in the process of buying it, unknowing to her (not cheap, and not crazy expensive either).
    The other day, she told me she went to the store one last time to just look at the ring I were talking about buying (the one she thought I was going to buy) a decoy.
    She tells me she spoke with the jewelry sales person, and the lady explains to her all about diamond clarity, certification, and other stones are not so traditional as engagement rings.
    to make a long short (because this already long enough) the sales person showed her this ring almost double the budget ring I originally gave, and now she's in love with this ring.
    Even going as far as saying she'd help me purchase it. Which sounds crazy.
    Don't get me wrong, the ring is really pretty, but i feel like this sales person caught her at a vulnerable state.
    I'm not the bossy type, but I asked her not to do something, she did it anyway, and now an outside source created unnecessary drama. Had I been there, I would have saw the price tag and we wouldn't have even looked in that area.

    3 months of income? So 12k cash? Get real!

    • @jacobwatson4429
      @jacobwatson4429 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Gina Belanger No more than two to three months. For some that may be 12k, and for others that may be 3k; it is up to the person not to be ignorant and blow all of their money on a ring. 12K cash amounts to roughly 131 dollars per day (depending on the hours you work per day), or 10-11 dollars per hour (within a 12 hour work day). With what is most likely a starting full time job, god no you shouldn't spend twelve thousand dollars on a ring. Common sense.
