I really appreciate you stressing the method of just base coating the helmet until after the eyes are done, in most other tutorials the painters immaculately paint the eye on a finished helmet without making a mistake... It is far more enjoyable to have the freedom of getting paint where it's not supposed to go when painting these tiny details. The lenses look fantastic and makes me want to buy some oldhammer!
The conversion uses the grenade arm from the metal Assault Squad Sergeant model, pinned onto a basic Grey Hunter body, both from circa 1991 Goodwin designs.
these painting vids are great i like how you explain why you do everything rather than just do this then this. and how you do the shading is great too.
The pose reminds me a lot of the old space marine... captain I think it was that held his powerfist in pretty much the same pose as the grenade arm on your model here, and if memory serves he held out a bolter or boltpistol with the other. How long did it take you to literally perfect the 2nd edition 'eavy metal style? It has been my golden standard since childhood and I still can't even produce anything close to it.
I've heard the advice of painting the eyes first so many times but always come to the end of a model before I remember it, hopefully next time. And is it weird that I was holding my breath while you were doing the black line and the white dots?
Doing the lenses before the helmet is something I never thought of… Eye lenses are intimidating, because I worry that I’ll ruin the rest of the paint job- but this may change that. :0 Then I’ll only worry about getting my edge highlight colors onto the lenses. XD
Just got here. Only watched about half of this video and im impressed with everything overall. Paint job, video quality and pacing. Really great model. Anyways I subscribed :)
Ah Yeah!!! I'm only 2 seconds into the vid,, can't help but comment on how exciting it is to see you have a new tutorial up! Thanks mate! edit: Finished the tutorial. Ended up forgetting all about my hot cup of coffee, the video was great! I'm going to work on some of this for my Grey Knights. My favorite part was leaving the head mostly unfinished so you can work up the lenses carefree. I love the blends and color selection too. The plastic wrap is also an awesome pointer. Thanks. Can't wait for the next vid : )
Wow! I SO look forward to these videos, and you did not disappoint with this GORGEOUS mini! a conversion no less! do you paint whole armies like this I wonder? or just one off minis? I mean I know armies were smaller in second edition, but I would LOVE to see what your collection looks like! (yes I have seen your insta, studied it even) I am so curious! Looking forward to the next one Will!
I opened reddit 5 minutes ago and this model popped up. Now I opened YT and... well, I have to question both my sanity and the existence of a big brother.
Excellent work as always. It was so cool seeing your Ultramarines Dreadnaught in Golden Demon and I hope that you'll give another try at getting that Slayer Sword!
I missed their launch but they were still the first metal box set I bought. That box art and the shake from the metal models, oh my god, such a great time in the hobby!
Vallejo Model Color German Orange is a pastel orange with good coverage. Golden Hi Flow Pyrolle Orange is a nice bright orange that covers well over light colors.
Us mere mortals can only dream of painting as good as you do! This model looks amazing. Just one question, are your green bases done using the original 90s Goblin Green, or do they use a modern (i.e. readily available) paint that’s a close match?
I was seriously holding my breath for the white 🎉 and it was a really interesting topic. I didn't know you held off on the helmet, but yes it makes sense.😊
Beautiful work My first full 40k army was the Space Wolf army deal they did in the back of the issue of White Dwarf that had the Wolves v Orks battle report that was later featured in Codex Space Wolves. I adore that scheme for Space Wolves, it was basically impossible to recreate myself as a child.
A video on the aquilas would be great. I find it really hard to get that contrast between the golden yellow shading, the yellow base and that almost white highlight
Welcome! So the 90s style comes from the bright saturated colours and the bright green base. Basically, in the early 90s, Games Workshop had all their models, regardless of the background or lore, painted in these big bright colours and stuck them on bright green bases. It created a brand identity which lots of people still enjoy and is becoming more popular. It also caused some very odd/funny situations where, for example, the lore and scenery was a city waste land but the bases were perfectly cut green grass. Similar for troops in winter camo and clothing, or desert camo and clothing, based on bright green bases. It depends how serious you were on your wargames as to if it was an issue I think. I still very much enjoy it. I hope you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching and saying hi!
It's great to see a video of yours @Goblingreen! It's nice! that they recently started collecting oldhammer Space Wolves, it would be great to see a tutorial about them.
It is like what I say when painting faces. It is easier to paint around the eyes than in the eyes. I don't use orange a lot, but you could mix your red with increasing amounts of AK Deep Yellow. That has worked for me with similar things.
The body is one from either the grey hunter or blood claw kits, both had the chapter specific sculpts. The arm is from the alternative jump pack sergeant who was never sold in a box set but was only available as a blister pack.
Nice video. Your end results are so neat and clean I was surprised that you go through some relatively messy stages before bringing it all together for the finish. It’s kind of encouraging to a paint splosher like myself.
I actually held my breath when you dotted the lense lol. Oddly though, as so as that white dot went on it brought the whole lense togther and it suddenly looked like it was glazed. Amazing work
My whole army is classic painted space wolves, slowly working my way through the units. Really enjoy the reactions when people see them on the table top. Great to see more classic tutorials, will be back for more
@@GoblinGreen2021 I haven't share my works much but one of my terminator conversions got featured on my local GW store's page. It would be awesome to have you see my work I just don't know how to get any of the pics to ya
I have not been this excited for a new episode of a TH-cam channel in ages. Hopefully you can do more, but savoring what we get!
thanks mate, very kind. I hope you enjoyed it. It wont be so long for another
You really nailed the 90's Space Wolf scheme.
blood angels assault marine with the mohawk. perfect conversion and paintjob.
🙌
YES! That guy used to lead my assault squad!

The Return of the King
90s Space Wolf layering , giving me 35 years of unrealistic goals for my painting standard :)
This has always been the benchmark
The conversion uses the grenade arm from the metal Assault Squad Sergeant model, pinned onto a basic Grey Hunter body, both from circa 1991 Goodwin designs.
It only took a year but I'm glad you're back!
Probably closer to a year a half, no point rushing. It wont be so long for the next one.
The new Army Painter Fanatic paints have some great oranges.
The King's f***ing back, boys!

What a treat!!! I inherited my dad's 90s space wolf army and im working on restoring them to their proper glory.
This makes me feel old. I have a 90s Space Wolves army.

Much appreciated mate!
Ayyy! Can’t watch right now but will soon! Make another vidja soon, love your last couple!
What I like about you : you are a very good painter but what's more, like Dave from Infernabrush, you are an excellent teacher too. Excellent video !
one of the kindest comments Ive had, thank you mate. I love Daves videos.
mmmm, blood claws with chainswords, and power fists - Space Wolves were pushed in 2e.

Maybe one day mate. I feel like that competition has flown past me these days. The standard is so high now
I recently became an old person, and damn if this isn't a correctly painted space wolf. Just like I remember their launch in white dwarf.
I missed their launch but they were still the first metal box set I bought. That box art and the shake from the metal models, oh my god, such a great time in the hobby!
Please do a video about how you painted the armour of this SW. It looks really close to the 2nd edition codex.
I will do one on the armour, dont worry!

awesome paint scheme, what colors did you use to achieve the grey armor?
Thanks mate. All the colours are on my insta or FB page for the model. If you can't find them send me a DM 👍
Fuck yes, I was worried about where this channel had gone
You really must keep uploading!!! Thanks
Absolutely gorgeous work, can't wait to see more!

have you still got them? Such a great army!
Nice! This is a really smooth paint job.
Dude...a few minutes ago I watched a 90s painting Video and wondered if GoblinGreen is still making videos :)
lol, yeah still here mate. I don't rush them do I 😆
love the video!
a little quick one on the Aquila would be good
as it is amazing!
( and im doing my blood angels with yellow chest aquillas)
Thanks mate, I will put this one on the list, its probably a good one to do as its a part on most chapters of the time. 👍👍

have you fried the nostalgia 94 version?

Ah i love all the little intricate details!
Vallejo are a good substitute for GW oranges
I had both the Blood Angel and Space Wolf sets. Plus some extra blister packs, made a truly a high point in my collecting
Kym Syberg would be proud!! PLEASE do a video on how to paint that amazing grey armour!
First person to spot this is a Kim Syberg reference, yeah his stuff was the best!
I will do a grey armour tutorial at some point for sure!
Love it! Please, please please do some tutorials on painting (different types of) human skin in future. 👍🏻👍🏻
Why can't I like this vid 1000 times
That is just a lovely lovely model! Makes me wanna paint some stuff in a retro style too!
btw, what brush were you using?
Thanks mate, the brush is a Windsor and Newton 7 series size 1. I use it for pretty much everything
@@GoblinGreen2021 That's brilliant. I was looking at their brushes already cause they're real cheap for what i've seen, so I might just get some

Me too I think. My first box was the deathwing terminators, I think they had just recently been released.
@@GoblinGreen2021 I think mine were dark elf swordsman. Remember them ? lol I would love a box of them in the plastic, these days
Outsider brought here by the algorithm, what makes this 90s style? the brand of paint?

ill do some of Space Wolves for sure, my goal is to rebuild an army from the time so they'll be lots of opportunity for content.
Instantly takes me back 30 years. ❤
Well I know that arm. It’s the left arm from the jump pack sergeant metal model. Nice!
thats the chap!
In 1994 I was 12 years old and had my own Space Wolf army in glorious lead. Good times.
any pics?
Absolutely stunning. And I immediately recognised the assault sergeant grenade arm, I remember that being the height of cool back in the day. Still is
🙌
It is like what I say when painting faces. It is easier to paint around the eyes than in the eyes.

great video! though some editing feedback - your voice is pretty quiet in the mix, maybe make it a bit louder in later videos?
thanks mate, being honest I'm struggling a bit on the sound. Will look into this for the next one. Appreciate the feedback, really helpful.

It's crazy how much the last highlight heights paint jobs together. It's similar on the armour too which I'll show in another video.
I find the same techniques can be applied if painting in 1995's style!
Need proof or I don't believe you 😆
Truly fantastic! 🎉
Very excited to see a new video from you! I can only hope to be able to paint in the ‘Eavy Metal style as well as you can one day!
hope you enjoyed it!
Do you water the paint? If, so explain. No-one explains.
Do you mean thinning the paint with water mate?
