      Thanks! I actually don’t think I do much slo mo, I tie really slowly for the camera to be able to speed it up to where I need it. But I do appreciate you enjoying my style of filming and editing. Subscribe man, check out my other stuff. I think I’ve got around 400 videos.

    i saw this and immediately thought of a sand flea, nice!

      Sand flea? I guess I see whatcha mean. Add a cone head or dumbbell to sink it, and then add some eyes, and make it wayyy smaller, totally could work!

      @@McFlyAngler mole crabs are called sand fleas in my area my bad lol. I agree on the dumbbells, but I think the size is alright as is. Looks like a large female with eggs. Sure to get the pompano fired up!

      Yes same here, mole crab is what I was thinking. We call them sand crabs. But I knew what ya meant. Yeah man, check out my sand crab fly. th-cam.com/video/2aULQgrLcnk/w-d-xo.html. You have some big ones out your way man. I have only seen them 1” max. This streamer is in the 2” range. But yeah man dumbbells to weigh it down, it could work!

    What do you guys think about this clip and loop technique for zonker streamer flies vs using the hide? Think it’s worth the extra effort?

    • @TheMedic512
      @TheMedic512 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Worth the effort for sure. Using the strip causes a lot of bulk which is fine if your tying something like Matt Bennetts lunch $ minnow, but not for a small streamer. I like this look a lot

      Much better! Wrapping hide creates a lot of bulk, and loops against the shank stand the hair out better.

      Cool thanks medic. And also Jason. That’s my thoughts also.

      I love it! I use it all the time for reducing bulk and tapering. It is also really useful for tying in feathers that have really delicate stems that I can avoid breaking by using a loop.

    What rod can i use to cast that fly?

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I cast this pretty well on a 4wt to 5wt. But a 6wt probably would be easiest to cast it on. Which is most common for fishing with streamers for trout.

    Did one in red on streamer limerick hook and it sinks so so so slow even with 30 wraps of 0.15 lead wire

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      30 wraps??? Ok so did you just test this in a cup or sink? Or did you see it sinking slow while fishing it? Fur of all kinds can get air trapped underneath it. A few hard strips will dislodge this, and then it gets waterlogged and will sink much faster. Try to mimic this by just squeezing some of the air out when testing in your sink. It will drop quicker at that point. Not sure if that’s the issue or not. If not, did you buy the floating hooks?!? Hahahaha!

    • @keiranrooker7981
      @keiranrooker7981 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      McFly Angler yeah it was sinking slow at first and a few good strips does help just doesn’t sink all the fast even after that it sinks slow like a dying baitfish or a leech which is what I was going for just can’t get it down in the current where I want it unfortunately

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm, well if I’m fishing streamers in current, I usually have a sink tip. But I feel ya. Yeah if you want a sinking streamer then add a cone head. Tie it the same but add that cone head and if should sink.

      McFly Angler ooohhhh ok would that’s why my wooly buggers sink faster make sense I only use cone heads on my buggers

    • @McFlyAngler
      @McFlyAngler  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Sure, could be absolutely! Great for trout also! Good swinging streamer for trout on slow moving rivers. Better with a sink tip line. Good for anything really targeting small baitfish
