    This popped nack up in my feed. I've neen tying and fishing these since the video was released.
    This fly crushes fish for me. Works particularly well slow rolling along the bottom in deep pools in the winter.
    Thank @lanceegan and @flyfishfood !

    I have recently bought some and tied up of these for my favorite tail water. All I have to say is that this streamer is absolutely amazing! Thanks Lance.

    so similar to a zonker or even a fancied up leech pattern. where i am in colorado the big predator browns love these patterns, fished downstream to upstream or in the pillow hole. especially the flashy olive colors.

    Looks like a slump buster with an inverted tail.

      True, they both have some squirrel on them. Both great patterns 🙌

  • @kevinkelley5741
    @kevinkelley5741 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Tie the tail in and counter-wrap the rest of the squirrel to the bead,saves me a lot of time versus the dubbing and collar and it looks more like the title picture.

    New to fly fishing...does the hook eye ride up on top because it's a jig? The jig will naturally turn over if the eye is on bottom, won't it? Nice streamer. Thanks!

  • @daryanburton4650
    @daryanburton4650 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Why do you tie the zonker up side down?

    • @philmcphail2228
      @philmcphail2228 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The fly rides hook up

    • @Lanceeganflyfishing
      @Lanceeganflyfishing ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So that while fishing the fly the skin side is down. It’s on a jig hook so it inverts.

    what do you recommend as an alternative to the Arizona simi seal? Thanks

    • @Lanceeganflyfishing
      @Lanceeganflyfishing 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Any coarse dubbing in the color you like to match sculpin.

  • @richardthomas7622
    @richardthomas7622 ปีที่แล้ว

    Seems like a copy of the mini leach 😮

    • @Lanceeganflyfishing
      @Lanceeganflyfishing 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Both patterns use squirrel and a jig hook, but otherwise are quite different. This fly is significantly heavier than a mini leech, and has a different silhouette to imitate a sculpin instead of a leech.

    When are we just going to start putting rubber curl tail grubs on a jig head and call it a fly?

    • @FlyFishFood
      @FlyFishFood  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s actually really effective. Great minds think alike! Kudos to you sir.

    These flies work but are getting too close to conventional gear for me. Especially when guys are using just mono on a fly reel aka "euro nymphing". Sorry I'm just too old a fly fisherman to do it this new way. May as well use ultralight spin rod. My 2 cents. Cheers!

    • @FlyFishFood
      @FlyFishFood  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ultralight works great! Love spinning gear, but I much prefer flipping a baitcasted for picky largemouth. If limiting your fishing works for you, more power to you!

    • @Jon.Nyberg
      @Jon.Nyberg ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FlyFishFood Thanks for your reply. I get what you're saying. But we do need to admit that using fly rods with straight mono and pitching 1/2 ounce jig heads is a pretty messy way to describe "fly fishing?" It's a hybrid way to fish, let's say? It's really gear fishing on fly rods. The same comparison was made when we started adding split shot and "indicators" to floating lines. Old timers back then were offended by the new way to "fly fish". Anyhow, like you say, whatever works! Cheers!

    • @FlyFishFood
      @FlyFishFood  ปีที่แล้ว

      I hear you. I just don’t ever draw the line between “types” of fishing. While I mostly fly fish, I enjoy all types of fishing and my joy isn’t limited to telling myself “I’m going FLY fishing today.” For me? I’m just going fishin’

    • @Jon.Nyberg
      @Jon.Nyberg ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FlyFishFood For sure man! The fly described as a "poacher" fly had me laughing too! 😭. Cheers!

    • @Lanceeganflyfishing
      @Lanceeganflyfishing 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Does it change anything for you if I’m using a fly line. The rig you described is what most would call a “mono rig”. I don’t favor that setup either. I much prefer handling fly line which is why I like euro nymphing with a euro fly line.
