    As a huge Alfista I really liked your well made video. My Dad (also an Alfista) has a 82 GTV6 Balocco with some modifications done to it, like decat,tubular headers, beefier cams and so on. And that car shows me over and over again why especially the GTV6 2.5 Liter Engines are called „Violine di Arese“. Such a smooth well balanced engine with a Glorious Soundtrack.
    Hope that I can own my own Busso one day.

    I love this engine, I worked at a Ford Dealer, little italian man came in with a 5 speed 164 S, had 211k on it and was still in good shape and ran like a top. They gave him 600 dollars as a trade in on a focus ST, you bet your sweet ass I slapped a dealer plate on it and took it for a rip! The salesman were ignorant and laughing at the "old red car" until they heard the busso rev and smoke the tires off, I wanted to buy it after that... They told me 3k, thinking back on it still worth it, of all m5s, trans ams, corvettes, gt500s, jaguars, I've driven.. The little high miles 164 S was one of my top drives ever, you just can't buy soul. I ended up taking the owners manual out of it which had everything! I would sit in it on break, still smelled like italian leather, I regret not buying it

    For the last 3 month now I am a owner of a 166 manual with a 3.0 Busso. I fricking love it! This Engine is just so pleasant to drive, comfortable at low revs for crusing and gloriously screaming if you exceed 4k RPMs. The 166 drives really not how you would expect a car from that class. Its incredibel sporty, the throttle response is instant and the setup even allows the back to stick out, no boring understeer like so many others.

    I remember a went to buy an Alfa GTV coupe. The owner started it and I heard that engine from about 50 meters away. It sounded glorious. I drove it too. The 3L V6 way too fast for ridiculous Australian speed limits. My only gripe with that car was I couldn't get comfortable seating position and it was meant to be a weekend cruiser. But the sound, torque and power is something that's forever etched into memory. The legends are true about this engine. No headphones can replicate the bark of this V6 in real life. Go to a car meet and listen to the symphony of this sonorous 6.

    I hate that you could have the more modern Busso engines with only FWD, just three years later after it was gone they turned around and made the brilliant Q4 system which was full-time and transversally mounted, with none of that viscous clutch crap every AWD uses nowadays because they can't be bothered to figure out how a differential works, imagine the 159 with a busso, that thing would wipe the floor with Audi's S4

      I'm not a big Alfa Romeo guy, but I was sad when I was told that the 159/Brera/Spider trio don't use the Busso V6, instead going for GM's Alloytec V6 range. On paper, the numbers still seem pretty strong, but financially, you're better off buying a 159 TBi over the 3.2 V6. Still, the 159's design is truly timeless and if it were to be released today, it would still look modern and fresh.
      Also, fun fact, the 159 was supposed to be a joint venture with Saab and the second generation 9-3 was supposed to share its platform with the 159.

    Eventually people will understand that Italian engineering and design is the best. The most successful brand in F1 history? Ferrari. The most successful brand in Rally history? Lancia. The first brand to win an F1 race and title? Alfa Romeo. The best V6? Alfa Romeo? The best V12 and straight 12? Ferrari. Name of the guy who saved VW in the late 70s/early 80s? Giuggiaro.

    Such an amazing engine. I was lucky enough to have a 3.0L 24v Alfa Romeo 164. Was the best driving engine I ever had and never tired of hearing it at full throttle or even part throttle. There was nowhere in the rev range that it sounded other than glorious. Only other V6 engine that can came come close to the Busso for iconic status is the Ford Cologne V6

    Love your video's and as a alfa romeo fan especially fond of this busso video. Many thanks for the beautiful content.
    Maybe nice to know: , to meet regulations and retain max engine output possibilities for DTM in the 155 it did give the alfa corse team a headache problem to use the busso. They needed to change v6 block angle to optimize the engine. In the end they used in DTM not a busso derivative, but was it allowed in regulations to use a engine setup from lancia(part of the group) from a far past. They had to use the block angle from the lancia aurelia. Of course all the rest was totally different, but got away with it in regulations somehow.

    • @hiperformance71
      @hiperformance71 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In reality, the busso engine block was never used, the DTM engine was a bespoke racing engine, the only relations with the Busso engine were the number of cylinders, the V angle and the cilinder axial distance (between the centers of the cylinders in a same bank).

    • @hanswieringa9911
      @hanswieringa9911 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hiperformance71 I agree that the engine was bespoke, but was under the assumption that the geometric elements (v angle of the block) of the lancia aurelia v6 were used instead of the busso.

      @@hanswieringa9911 from what I know (I'm Italian, and readed a lot about these techonologies because I'm working in the racing industry and love racing technology) is the initial project was based in the v6 buso, V angle of 60 degrees, but successive versions of the DTM/ITC engines were made using a lancia engine(but produced by alfa romeo, with a V of 90 degrees. Here in YT, youn can find a good video interview with one of the engineers who designed all those DTM/ITC engines were he described all this, the video is in italian but I think it has english subtitles. THIS, is Why the Busso V6 is a living legend. 620K miles so far, on The Bue Meanie Alfa GTV6. the original 2.5 till 480K miles including many race days and hard, Spirited back road driving, then a Busso 3.0 Verde, that also raced many times. I drove all over my great State with Many back roads though winding through the hills roads and few police and Many other States and amazing windy back roads as well. And in GTV6's, I have driven one in every Connected State in the US. Ain't been boring. The Song of the Busso V6, is the reason I NEVER turned on a radio in a GTV6, in 10 trips across America, and back from many others. As a Musician, the song it Sings and the thrill of 3500 to 7K rpm is a thrill!!. Heavy Metal Alfa

    Wait, so some DTM Alfas used a PRV V6 block, isn´t that the same that was in the DeLorean?
    Busso swapped DeLorean would be sweet, I wonder if people have done that.

    • @VisioRacer
      @VisioRacer  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the DeLorean used the PRV engine.

    • @giuliettaevo
      @giuliettaevo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, later DTM engine was based on PRV engine. Lancia used that engine in the Thema so they were allowed to by the rules. Bank angle of 90 degrees gives lower centre of gravity and the bore spacing was also more usefull for the engineers. But the resulting engine was completely new, no parts interchange with the PRV.

    • @Mauro-82
      @Mauro-82 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      According to the regulations the engine had to have the same bank angle and cylinder centre distance as a standard engine, but apart from that it could have nothing else in common. The PRV engine had these suitable values, so a completely new engine was made but with the same bank angle and cylinder centre distance.
