  • There are few brands as evocative as Alfa Romeo. Some go as far as to say that you cannot be a real petrolhead unless you’ve owned one of Milan's finest from Alfa Romeo.
But, given the fine history of both the original ALFA and the famous Alfa Romeo, it’s pretty hard to pick out a list of the best ever. Sure there have been down times for Alfa Romeo, but during the good times it has consistently pumped out brilliant car after brilliant car.
But, we’ve had a go. No doubt this list will annoy pretty much everyone, some will think that Alfa Romeo haven’t made a good car since the War, some that only the 1960s could be even considered. But at some point we had to stop, so we picked a dozen Alfa Romeos we love and left it there.
Let us know your list below.

The 1800 Alfetta should be on there with the DeDion back end, transaxle and inboard rear brakes. The 1750 GTV and Berlina. I didn't see the Alfasud in there anywhere, Forget the 8C and the modern stuff no one with Alfa in their veins is interested in that. Also please learn how to Pronounce the GTAm.

In the late 70’s I worked at an Alfa Romeo /Fiat dealership in the Bay Area. A customer once brought in a ‘73 Alfa along the lines of their space age concept cars. It was white with red leather interior. It had a noticeable pointed front nose and the front fenders were also pointed , the back window was taylored to the slope of the back roof that tapered to a narrow roof line to the rear trunk. With fenders rounded and sleek. I was fortunate enough to have the job of driving it around. . He was selling it for 3500.00 to one of the mechanics in the shop. I really wish I had made a stronger effort to purchase the car, apparently only 1500 were made. The gentleman who owned it would drive through the Nevada desert to Las Vegas in the first two or three years he owned it so he could drive it at top speed. Claims it went over 120 miles an hour very easily. My dream car. Maybe someday

The thing about Alfa's, is you could put an argument for almost any car in there. Even the most mundane in the lineup, always had "something" to lift them from the ordinarty, if not the "better". Even my 33 Green cloverleay had a fab 1500cc twin carb boxer engine that loved to be revved. My 3l 75 Veloce was just the motorway killer. Week after I bought it, was on m25. Wondered if there were police about as everyone was going so slowly. Then I realised that in top gear, the engine seemed to be barely ticking over and we were doing over 100mph! The Alfetta GTV2000 I had for a vehicle without any mod cons like power steering, was a beautiful thing to steer round a bend, steeering wheel and throttle working in symphony together to give the driver all the feedback needed. Eben my Alfasud Sprint was a joy to get in and set off somewhere on an "interesting" b road.
Of course, they all broke down, expired, rotted or found unusual ways to try and kill me. But thats what having a "relationship" with a car is all about.

I had a 1969 1750 ALFA spider that I bought new and kept for over 40 years. I also had a 67 ALFA GTV that was my SCCA race car for a couple of years. Later I bought a 2015 ALFA 4C Launch Edition which I bought new. If I had the garage space I would still have that spider in addition to the 4C. I loved that old spider but love the 4C even more. With a few minor mods that 4C is an amazing car but very raw. The old spider was a pretty practical car with decent luggage space.. It was my daily driver for a few years but after adding a beater car for daily use I kept the spider pristine. When I sold it to a collector it was flawless and better than new.

The worse has to be the Arna ,but surprisingly the Nissan Pulsar Milano & Le Prix were nice. Those who don't know about the Arna, basically it was an Italian built Pulsar/Sunny with an Alfa Romeo flat4 for an engine and it was supposed to replace the Alfasud, eventually the 33 replaced the Alfasud.

Hi, I agree with Jason regarding the Alfa 33 with that rasp from the engine "marvellous" as a driver and an "alfaholic" I have been and still remain for many years. The 2ltr Alfa Romeo series 4 was another beautiful example and the later Alfa 159 Sportswagon for which I am a proud owner. Not only the affordability of these forementioned vehicles but the style and design together with the performance "they in turn', turn peoples heads.

The Giulia Super is considered by many the first true sports sedan…and the Giulia TI Super even more so. Definitely could’ve included the Super!

Yhe most notable missing car was the 116 GTV and GTV6, which had notable competition success and was even used by James Bond! The 116GTV was the last car along with its sibling the 75 to have the classic front engine, rear transaxle that gave the car poise and handling that was developed for the SZ.

My last Alfa was the 1986 GTV6. Gone was the Spica injection replaced by L- Jetronic. Without a manual transmission I wouldn't buy another one.

I was lucky enough at the age of 12 thanks to my father to find alfa romeo and lancia. I've had alot of makes since but nothing like these to great marques 16 alfas and 17 Lancia I've had the fortune to own.with heart and soul built into every model truly fantastic. I'm now 60 years old I have my pride and joy a guilia quadrifoglio in trofo white it's a keeper never to leave me a total alfisti.

Great history video of some great Alfa cars. Just a heads up though, at 14:43 you show the wrong motor for the Giulia Quadrifoglio. The one you show looks to be the smaller 4 cylinder motor planted in the standard Giulias.

A nice effort and I'm particularly appreciative of the GTA component, having seen (and heard) the GTAms run in the old US Trans Am back in the day , a sight and sound that resulted in my subsequent ownership of an Italian racing red, SPICA-injected 2000 GTV. But I can't be the only one to note that the TZ3 appearing en passim around the 13:50 mark is, rather than a Zagato-bodied 8C, actually a Zagato-bodied and re-badged Dodge Viper sourced via Fiat's Chrysler connection.

    • @Mauro-82
      @Mauro-82 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The first TZ3 Corsa is a Zagato-bodied 8C, the following nine TZ3 Stradale are based on the Viper

Beautifully done video. I would perhaps omit the 164 and add the 156 instead. I would also omit the modern 8C Competezione for being a re-bodied Maserati and add either the 75 or the Alfetta GTV6 in its place.
