Im a CMO. Planning marketing efforts is not as fun as you think. It’s exhausting and you get decision fatigue and anxiety. Have i made the right choices? Not to mention you have to manage people that do stuff like the spreadsheets. Thats another whole exhausting thing cause you do have to micro manage a lot of the time and follow up and make sure goals are met and motivation is kept up. I sometimes wish i was just someone that was told to make a spreadsheet because it is so much less stressful. Burnout is real.

This speaks to me! I have the same story. I secured a big 4 internship right after my sophomore year and had 2 more summer internships after that which led to a full time job in audit. Back then I didn't know there were other avenues to explore outside audit and tax so I just stuck with core accounting for a while because I thought that having an accounting degree meant you're pretty much stuck with accounting, audit, or tax. not knowing that people can pivot into more interesting jobs in business. I feel like I've pigeonholed myself at times but now working to move into a finance role to get into asset management. Just wish I knew a faster way to get there early on.

Like if you took accounting you can do different stuff like finance, banking, economics, and so many things within business domains. Example me i took accounting and now i work in banking private equity and i love my Job, i will never change my major ever.

  • @TheKgardener

I had a similar experience and started working in the same field as my major while I was a junior in college, because it was the “smart choice”. I quit a few years later after I realized how much it took a toll on me and went on to follow another passion. No regrets, but it’s good to keep your options open and choose something that doesn’t make you unhappy or unhealthy. At the end of the day money isn’t everything and as impressive as it was to have your future locked down during a recession don’t just live for other people. I do recommend having some cushion of financial security before you quit or at least a goal that you can strive for at your job regardless of the field.

@reisatsuki5891 Any company or individual need some dorm of accountancy. Right now, I am working for Universal dealing with fixed assets where I get to know all upcoming and current projects of the company because we need to account for the assets. I also did credit card and cash reconciliation for the same company where I figure out the errors why our accounts showing a variance which affected by systems. We also catches any fraudulent activities while doing the same job. I did a job of creating a budget sheet for international performers all over the world and at the end of the year we do their tax returns. There are times you get invited to meet them when they are in town or even afar like Vegas. So basically, any recording, analyzing, and creating reports while actually be able to see how those numbers come into play in the company works (not all company does). You just need to find the right job and company to work for. Also, since many are going digital, you might be able to work remotely too.

So, I’ve live in the US for 6-7 years. Started high school as 8 grader. I graduated from it, but my English skill is not that fluent and professional. I took a gap year off and now thinking of going to college. I don’t have any grants, scholarships, and also was not eligible for the FAFSA because I put my parents information. And I already sent it to college. Now I got accepted, enrolled, ready to go next month. But I’m so overwhelmed with everything. I’m worry that I’ll fall behind because of my English. I’m worry I won’t be able to pay for college( my parents won’t help me pay). I will be a full time student and I will have to work a part time job to pay rent. Will I survive. 😢
I chose business, accounting as my major. I don’t even know if I like it or not. And my tuition would roughly be 70k 4 years that not included taxes.
Should I go to college or just find a job😭

You can learn marketing on your own. Having an accounting degree opens way more doors in the corporate world. A marketing degree is a waste of money, wanna go work for a marketing firm making 30K a year? Go ahead. If you want to learn marketing, go buy some books and watch all the online videos on how to market products and yourself.
The people you interview and you can include yourself are entitled asian kids who’s parents worked hard and pushed you guys to get educated and all you have to say is Oh my life sucks cause I got into investment banking and went to Harvard. I didn’t want this in my life, I wanted to be a content creator on TH-cam. Boohoo.
