A recovery of something not running that needs towing is a recovery...and helpful too Robby, The Boss, Hillbilly and Steve. Good on ya' for taking care of it for the We the People and the Forest Service. NEXT! ;)
I'm excited for Fred's restoration. It's so great that y'all are taking old girls and restoring them. New vehicles are nice, but there is nothing like the old stuff having new life being breathed into them. Ryan would be proud.
Casey always outs a tarp over the front to stop the wind blowing through when he does the public land cleanups with abandoned campers. Might be something to try for next time? You guys are great to watch and its always fun to watch form Australia. Cheers kids
Lived in Castle Rock for thirty five years. It was a small town between Denver and Colorado Springs. I say it was a small town because it grew like crazy and is now a bustling community off I-25 and crowded as heck. I saw your wreck for many years running around town but, it was replaced by much bigger wreckers. Recovery went well and you guys rock on community service. Thanks for caring.
My father-in-law used to scrap metal. One of his main sources was an RV center that gave him units like this one. When he would turn in the aluminum from those RV's he often left with a check for around $4,000. It is worth stripping the metal off before you take the rest to the land fill. The trailer frame has value as well. It might look like junk, but that junk is worth a few dollars if someone wants to take a little time to strip it down.
Fun little video. I assume that is still the hydraulic winch in there, and I wouldn't bother switching that out if it works good. Paul needed something fast for the wrecker games, but in real duty, its fast enough. Also, you want your residual bleed of power figured out in that rig, or disconnect the battery each time with a main power switch, because you need the Batt. to be hot and ready, at all times, and if you are jumping it each time you are going to be going thru a dozen batteries. Figure out what light is on, or just put a battery switch on it which is a lot cheaper than buying batteries all the time. It's a nice little tow truck.
”Ol’ Fred” on it’s first recovery. 👍 I think Hillbilly and Steve would be an awesome wrecker team helping people out! (But i would imaginge some destruction and a LOT of laughs.) And Robby.... Demri absolutley deserve that bronco! She has to put up with all the craziness that you and Hillbilly come up with... 😊
Love these old wreckers. I ended up putting a 12 valve cummins in mine. This was the best move I ever did with my 95 f350 wrecker. Went from 6 mpg to 17 mpg. And enough torque to idle up everything. Switch to a 1 wire alternator so will not be dead when you need it. The 460 auto will do the job but the mpg is horrible. Always upgrade to a hayden severe duty fan clutch on these. We also use a/c condensers for trans coolers. Like a uhaul put a spin on filter inline on the trans cooler lines. For hard working trucks. weld two trans pans together to be extra deep and put a heater core inside the bottom pan hooked to your coolant lines. Water cooled trans pan with ad years to your transmission when working a truck hard. I have been doing this stuff for over 40 years.
Well that's a bit of a fixer upper, 😢👍, straight to the salvage yard that is, and hillbilly got his first bling clock 🕒 all shiny like chrome, except mine wasn't shiny and chrome. Have a good week and count your blessings amen.
Great Job getting that old trailer out of the woods, Robby. I’m sure that old Ford Wrecker is going to make a great addition to your Recovery Fleet.. thanks for your work in cleaning up the woods. Layton Nation is Awesome... MWP Cosby, Tn.
Hello Mr. Robby: Suggest a few upgrades. The luxury truck headliner is perfect condition, normally seen is a exposed rusty metal, no doors, no rear window, cracked wind shield, chain steps, welder unit were the radio goes, 6 winches, cluttered tool box, 4 each shift levers with end wrench handles, 8 ball broadey knob, Cab seat way not new. Keep these great videos going.
Cut and redrill your receiver hitches inserts to work on the wheel lift with them much shorter or closer to the head unit. That is long and will have allot of leverage on the wheel lift like that. I have seen them break off. We also put a large d-ring on the top of the wheel lift boom for when they lose a line underneath you will need to lift it with the top boom. Or a strap around when needed. We use the d-ring set for when we carry motorcycles on the wheel lift as well.
Cleaning up the National forest is the best thing about this video. You need to set up a program for your area cleaning up public lands like Casey Ladell over in Oregon.
Next time you do that type of recovery take a roll of plumber's strap and screws with you to help secure loose panels in front where it grabs the wind. Also you can see if the dump will use their equipment to flip trailer on its side then you can sawsall or un bolt axels easily. Keep up the great content guys n gals!
Robbie.. you need a set of trailer lights for the wrecker. Also there should be a pin or locking mechanism that locks the swing arm in the straight position when you retract it... I'm an ex tow truck operator here in Melbourne Australia..
Put a zip tie under the dash on the throttle cable next tp pedal arm to take up the factory slack. Pull the hoses off the intake plastic tube coupler and cut the cone restrictors off then put the hoses back on. We went to headers and a 4 inch single exhaust and this helps mpg. The injection system these years was for epa only. not for mpg or power. these trucks also like large hood vents to let the heat out. they like air spoiler right in front of the main engine cross member to direct road air to the front of the oil pan.
I don't live in a area that I would need a off road map! But I would like to vote for Demri, she deserves a 72 Bronco! That was a good 1st recovery for the wrecker! Til next time, take care, and we'll see you on the next...
It wasn’t “not” exciting . I enjoyed watching it and also I’m glad that someone is willing to pick up trash that others just go off and leave! Good job!
We always carry a gas powered air compressor or the newer style smitty built large 12v compressor. You just never know. Some self loading dollies and a welder/ plasma cutter on the truck and there is just not much you cannot do with the truck as far as recoveries. Many carry a arborist (loggers) rope for super long pulls and snatch strap. I have a 30 gallon water tank under mine and rv pump with water hose for just in case as well as extra fire prevention stuff.
Need to buy a air compressor and welder for the Wrecker this way you can weld and air up vehicle's if you's need to. Good job at cleaning up the woods.
OMG, the wrecker is from my hometown! I might have driven it. No, I didn't, the number on the side of it doesn't Match. So cool to see something from Castel Rock Co. from the good old days. (Before you were born) You guys are GREAT.
If the wheels would have been missing, damaged, or would not air up, then the wheel dolly system would have been able to help take the damaged trailer out.
Great job helping to keep the parks clean. The wrecker is going to be a game changer for you all. BTW, this would have been a great one for Bigfoot to show up, because if you Google "Bigfoot capital of the world", Willow Creek will pop up. Okay, it Willow Creek, Cali, but still.. 😂
PLS BEND Oregon does Deschutes Forest cleanup. Casey Ledele and many others haul old RVS cars and trucks out of the forest.personally I have been on many cleanups working from 8 an to 1 pm, 10s of thousands of pounds trash 3 or 4 times per year. A worthy volunteer effort. Thnx Layton crew......oh, and Mrs Layton!
Robbie you need to put some deaver HD leaf springs on your new wrecker and upgrade the suspension in the front. And I would put nitto ridge grappler tires on the wrecker I swear by these tires they have lasted me 70,000 mi on road and gravel. But at least upgrade rear suspension to the Deavers HD leaf suspension with shock support.
You’ve got to put some exhaust on that tow truck 12 inch catalytic converters true deals dumping right in front of the tires in the rear with 24 inch long echo tips 3 inches in diameter or 4 inches in diameter
I've seen Rory haul a motorcycle with 'Trail Mater' and that's why I suggested you make custom 'wheel lifts'to use backwards towards the truck so you can haul bikes and quads without them shifting,or swinging about./ Great work today, and good luck Demri.
Nice truck. This is the second Ford tow truck I've seen resurrected on a video. I'd have to buff it. The dull paint erks me for some reason. Looks fun.
Any excuse to go out on a beautiful day, play with the trekker and an old ford wrecker, while out in the woods is a good day, and its doing a good thing for the forestry service and the continued public use of that land. Its not a crazy exciting video, but i like watching them anyways 😁

Absolutely! Demry for the win !

Good Morning y'all have a great day👊🙏😁🇺🇸😎
Awesome video. It's nice seeing that you have a wrecker now to help out your town ❤😊 Thank you for sharing! 👌
Demri is game with these excursions even when she is not exactly excited about them. She's a keeper!
Plus, she is cute
Keep going with that wrecker Robby Layton crew, make it more capable, stronger, reliable and keep it, it's kinda cool.
Robbed be a salesman at heart.
Demri should have the Bronco for putting up with the prior games.
Nice work crew.😊

Too late now but in the future you should take along a roll of shrink wrap and go around the trailer a couple times… works pretty good.
I came to say the same. I assume they have Crash Wrap for the other towing they do.
Hear Hear!! I Couldn’t Agree More With You My Friend!!
Thank u for ur help and hard work helping keep the land trash free
Nice first L.A.B. recovery for Fred! Great to see that eyesore get hauled out of there! Plus, Hillbilly got a free clock! Win/win!

The block failure at the end was the best part of the video. So funny!!!
I was holding my breath that the junk didn’t collapse on the trips. This was a nice thing to do for the forestry department.
When Case Ladell does the clean-ups, the forest service makes a dump spot. Where the recycling trucks come.
Demri needs a bronco Yee haw !!!
Love you guys and Demri rocks you go girl way to put up with these guys all the time.
I love the color of hillbilly's truck that is a beautiful blue. Oh, my God, that is so awesome!

Robbie.. you need a set of trailer lights for the wrecker. Also there should be a pin or locking mechanism that locks the swing arm in the straight position when you retract it... I'm an ex tow truck operator here in Melbourne Australia..
The tow companies north of me(Portland....) use industrial pallet wrap on the trailers they haul. Like giant cling wrap.
Can't thank you 😉 enough for cleaning up the back country. Thanks 👍 for sharing.
Next time wrap the chain over the bar then around to the hooks. Makes it a strong connection, makes it so the hook and weld aren’t holding much load.

My suggestion is to install a new hook on the side of the boom for the cable hook to make easier to unhook

Flat tires, no tires? Not a problem if you've got the right dollies on your wrecker. Casey LaDelle is da man with da dollies.

Hi Mr Layton. Thanks for the best content provided by you and team. Watching all the way from Cape town south Africa...

That trailer frame would make for a good tiny house build, and it could be titled through the state of Maine if the weight is under 3k lbs.
Loved the squatter in the old beat up trailer.
