Man I had PSO version 1 on Dreamcast where when you died you would drop your weapon... Those were some gangster times.
I've got items into someone else's hands through the player shop as you explained. It does work, you just have to be right on top of it as you stated especially if the item is popular.

Using that storage/bank was crucial back in the original days lol.
And to your second point, indeed!

Just imo, also as an mmo player, I think RMT is just something that will always be there because of the will of people, however I think games like NGS should just have a policy that they are not liable for any funds lost due to RMT or anything not purchased from Sega. I don't think not including trading is fair just because of RMT because the point of mmos is playing with people and making friends and why should you have to charge a friend something you would like to give them for free or find a work around that could potentially involve a risk. Also for the money aspect, it won't affect them because they don't make money from dropped items, and any items traded either way from AC still must be purchased so Sega is still getting their money. As for bots, they're already present in the game so thats no reason. That's just my opinion.

Having something as simple as RMT isn't really what RMT is a problem. RMT literally messes up the whole scale of the game. RMT can entirely RUIN a game. RMT players have absolute disregard for everything else and will spam things. Will manipulate things. Will create an experience that is very unfavorable for the game. This is why combating RMT has always been at the forefront of MMOs for as long as MMOs have existed. It's why you've began to increasingly see MMOs have limited trading systems, etc etc. Blue Protocol for example does not having one either.
MMOs are meant to be played and enjoyed with people. They are meant to be a fun experience within a community/environment where people can provide unique & fun times. RMT has always hindered this. I've been playing MMOs since the early 2000s, and when I tell you RMT can ruin a game, I mean it can RUIN a game. RMT also usually directly correlates with unsuspecting people getting their accounts compromised, which then creates a whole nother debacle. RMT is like roaches on a grand scale.
You let RMT go unchecked and your game will cease to exist. You provide a place where RMT can thrive, and your resources will constantly be spent trying to address them. Which will then hinder everything else you're trying to implement into the game. Because now it pushes things back and you may have to change how things were originally going to be implemented because you're so heavily trying to combat RMT. It as well saturates a system that deals with behaviors in a game, because now you're caught up dealing with RMT players. Which then breeds an environment for malicious players to thrive in. etc etc.
RMT has a history & is much much deeper than you realize on how negatively it impacts a game. That being said, yes it indeed would be nice to trade if they can find a proper way to do so and take the proper steps in preventing what things can be traded & what can not. As I don't believe everything should be able to be traded, as it would more or less ruin how the game operates in its current self. Namely, just keep the non-tradeable items non-tradeable.
