    You are right about the arrow keys and the page up/down. Keyboards should leave the space beside the up arrow. Most of our typing time, we are pressing on the arrow keys to move the cursor around. And that blank space beside the up arrow (above the left and right arrows) helps in touch typing. As a developer who touch-types a lot, I really hate the laptops that put some keys in that blank space or enlarging the left and right keys to get rid of the space.
    There's a reason why the original layout of the arrow keys is like that -- to aid in touch typing -- and if a laptop get rid of the blank space at the left and right of the up arrow, it's like removing the bump on the F and J keys too.

    • @pierrelezan

      Yes I agree, I quite surprisingly prefer the function+arrow for page-up/down/begin/end on my old macbook...

      Why touch type, isnt it way slower, u can always use a mouse

    • @otanix
      @otanix 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RyxFPS touch typing on arrow keys is not slower than using the mouse. For instance, you're editing a document, or for a programmer like me who moves the cursor a lot when writing or editing a source code, using the mouse is way slower than pressing the arrow keys.

    • @otanix
      @otanix 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@pierrelezan yes, last year my cousin who is a journalist asked me for advice as to which laptop to buy. I suggested Dell XPS and he seemed to be convinced. But at the end he got an Asus. When I asked him why Asus, I thought he would mention the webcam or some specs, but I was surprised when he told me that it's because of the keyboard: the ASUS he bought has an arrow key layout similar to his old MacBook Pro 2011 where there are blanks beside the up arrow. He said anything that isn't annoying when typing is a plus point for him when choosing a laptop.

    People think I'm mad for spending so much money on a laptop. However, sometimes in life you really have to treat yourself to something truly special. The XPS is the best laptop I have ever owned by far, it's also my first Dell. Before this I used to have HP laptops and every one of them was terrible and literally fell to pieces. I only wish I had discovered the XPS range sooner. The trouble is, once you have an XPS you will never want to go back to anything else. It really is the best laptop you can buy. Dell know this, hence the reason these things are so god damn expensive.

    • @oisincraninx-l.6930
      @oisincraninx-l.6930 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're in college and you need your laptop for video editing I would certainly not take the Surface Book 2. Although it's a great device, for your use and needs it's overpriced. The MacBook Pro's keyboard is a pain in the butt from what I've heard. A friend of mine had to get it replaced twice already. However Mac is great if you want a device where you can't do anything wrong with the settings. But if you're like me and you like to mess with the settings and you know what you're doing: go for Windows.
      Other good options might be a Microsoft Surface Laptop, Lenovo ThinkPad or an Asus ZenBook. Alongside with the Dell XPS 13 and the MacBook Pro it really goes down to preferences. If you want to play games too, you might want to consider the Razerblade 15.
      If I had to choose for a student laptop for video editing, I would go with either the XPS 13 or the Microsoft Surface Laptop 2.

    If you're interested in buying this laptop, read my experience with it's 3 year old parent.
    Short review of Dell XPS 13 (9360, 2016) after every day usage for the last 3 years. The laptop is insane, the performance I have today is the same I had the first day. Touchpad is fantastic, keyboard is like new (I type a lot of text and not even a single millimeter of any letter label is missing). Screen is brilliant (Full HD). Fan does turn on sometimes but only when windows forces updating. I still do receive regular driver updates trough Dell Update software which is great! Unfortunately, and in the end that is expected, the battery today has max capacity of 50% it had the first day, which is still good (you can work for few hours or watch movies).
    So considering my experience with the model I bought 3 years ago, if I'm looking for a Windows laptop, I would definitely buy newest XPS. It just can't be any better than this.

    How about coil whine? Every review of XPS 13 is stellar but nobody mentions, that the forums are plastered with people complaining, that their XPS 13 gives off an annoying whine when under load.

      I know people with an XPS. Try it on theirs. There's a whine on mine but so much better than the serious noises from other computers.

    No Matebook X Pro comparison? I honestly think that's the ultralight to beat in 2018 & 2019 so far.

      @@d3exter864 I still prefer a little ticker,for me,I am waiting for sth with ood perfomance and great battery,so clevo N350tw/n350TV, with 8700T 35W(but i believe 65W cpu like 8700,9600K,with delid+undervolt+repaste could be easily used in that chassis as well). it has 62 & 93WH battery options. it has thunderbolt3 and there is no gpu to suck the battery life out of it... it's for now the only device with such capability for productive cpu-hungry apps &enthusiastics.maybe this year,intel also release 9700t(hopefully) which support the same 1151 socket(to rival the amd ryzen support for 3 generation already) and we could get higher performance altogether.
