    Of all BRAVE ONES I've never, ever seen a TRIBUTE to one's died fighting a fire... I'm touched!! 🤙🛐🎆
    In our little town we had fires coming in 3 ways... over 1,000 FIREFIGHTERS saved us & homes. Two died & 1 was badly injured... I've respected them (& all others) so much ever since. Thank ~ You for what you all do!!

    I've fought "forest fires" in the southeast, but *nothing close* to what y'all have out there. You guys are straight up Beasts. I can't imagine hiking in/out in that terrain, humping all the gear - much less working the line 18/24/36 hours straight.

    Hello Mario,
    I am a documentary television producer/editor, and I am looking into developing a show about the Geronimo Hotshots. I do a lot of shows for National Geographic and I saw your video on youtube, and was blown away. It really puts into perspective the kind of work you guys do. And I truly believe more people should know your story, and see what you do to protect them.
    I would love to have a conversation with you about filming you and your squad for a couple days. I obviously can't make any promises, but I could put that footage together, and show it to the right people, who can potentially turn it into a series, and let the world see what you guys do.
    Let me know if you are interested?
    xxxxxx xxxxx.

      Hi Omar
      Sorry for the late response we just got back from the fireline, That's good news that you started your career in wildfire I'm sure you will have a thrilling and a safe fire season, I'm sure we will cross paths some where along an assignment or on training in the near future. Omar you sent me two messages and one of the questions asked do we hire non tribal members? Yes we hire non tribal members and anyone that is willing to work side by side with a band of brothers and sisters, I believe no crew has any discrimination issues with hiring any personnel that wants a job that he or she is willing to apply for so yes we all hire folks that are willing to commit to the crew. Thanks for enjoying our video and for the comment, we will work together in the near future so until then please be safe this fire season it has already started off and is very busy, we hope to see you soon. Take care friend M.Dia

    • @dragonfiredia
      @dragonfiredia  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Morning Rav,
      Thanks for the patience I'll be releasing the 2015 crew motivation this coming week and after I will be releasing the 2015 fire season. All shot crews are accepting applications as of now so prepare yourself mentally and physically for the job you are seeking. Make sure you have a resume and present yourself professionally to the crew that you are applying for. All the crews have a very good reputation for doing the job they do, so if you have a history in fire or new to the fire world make sure you are ready to follow before you lead, let them know you are their to work and be a public service, let them know you are willing to learn from them, later in life you'll be able to lead and have followers. We will see you soon Rav make a decision it's part of becoming a leader.
      Thanks again for your support. M.DIA

    I live in Ohio and I'm taking S130/190 this weekend in Colorado. Other than the completion of this course i'll have no fire experience. What else can I do to help myself land a job fighting Wildland in the 2016 fire season. Also what is a realistic timetable from getting your foot into the door to making it on a hotshot crew. Thanks

    • @dragonfiredia

      +Chris Beatty
      Hi Chris
      Thanks for wanting to do your part in helping the public with fighting wildfires or helping the public with any natural disasters that put lives at risk. We are glad that you are doing the basic training this weekend and becoming a wildland fire fighter, I am sure that you can land a job in the fire world after completing these courses this weekend, most of the jobs should be posted online at usajobs.com, after you go through a series of questions you can see what areas that will be hiring. you can also apply for any crews or hotshot crews near your area, I see that you are willing to travel from ohio to colorado for training im sure you wouldnt mind traveling to another state that selects you for a job, most crews start flying postions at the end of the fire season so be on the lookout for the job announcements. You can also find online fire training to help you if you can not make any other training classes but its best to have a qualified instructor teach you out of the book.
      WORD OF ADVICE Work your way up from the bottom to the top take your time do not rush to the top quickly, learn everything you need to fight a fire, always do every task with safety in mind, look out for the guy or girl to the right of you and to the left of you, dont rush into something you are not prepared for due to people getting hurt that way,
      Before the 2016 fire season begins you should prepare yourself mentally and physically fit for the arduous duties that are done by wildland firefighters. This job is not easy, its very dangerous but it will be the best time of your life. If you are willing to work side by side with brothers and sisters, willing to help people in need of assistance, willing to sacrifice your time and show your commitment to the crew, willing to adapt to the changes in the fire world, willing to show your commitment to the fireline for the entire 14 days in a spike camp, willing to sleep in the dirt, willing to eat MREs and not a hot meal in some situations, willing to get an adrenaline rush from an out of control wildfire, willing to not being able to see your family for 6 months, willing to work with brothers and sisters nationwide fighting fires or helping with natural disasters, And just having fun doing this job that you will learn to love. If your willing to do all this and alot more not listed due to too much space taken well you should come and join us, all we do is have fun doing this job that we love, This will be an experience you will never forget. The Geronimo Hotshots will be expecting to see you on the fireline next year. Stay safe and we will see you soon on or off the fireline im sure of it.
      Take care Chris and thanks for viewing our crew video. M.DIA

    Hello
    I'm 17 and am working on my way to becoming a hotshot in New Mexico. My goal is to become a lead sawyer, but also to get my paramedics license for work on the line. I have my type 2 wildland cert and connections with the Sandia hotshots. What are you recommendations for becoming a hotshot? How should I start conditioning and training? Any information will help greatly and any info that you can add.
    Thank you

    • @dragonfiredia
      @dragonfiredia  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Kadin,
      Thanks for asking your question and wanting information on joining a hotshot crew in New Mexico, The crews in NM are very good crews we have been fighting fire with them for a good time now. Im glad your deciding on becoming one of the few to help us fight wildfires. Well becoming part of a hotshot crew you would have to get the recommendations of the crew your joining most of them have basic requirements on their applications referring to basic firefighting qualification that can be obtained in your recruitment training for first time rookies. Physical fitness should be done on a daily basis, if your already fit then continue working out, The Physical Training (PT's) at every hotshot program will be different, Prepare yourself for some high intensity training as this is a high stress environment, We would highly recommend that you see a Fitness Instructor for the types of workout level that you are seeking. We have a schedule using Crossfit Training, mixture of all cardio, weight training exercises, Powerhikes and running. As for working your way up into lead saw remember that being a lead saw doesn't mean you have to be the fastest on the chainsaw its a mixture of leadership roles, maintenance and trouble shooting of all equipment that pertains to chainsaws, administrative duties, ordering and making the right decisions on a wildfire with your saw crew, Mainly The Safety of the guys your working with at all times, Brains over Muscle, Having the confidence that you have now is great continue to stay at that level and dont become over confident, that attitude can get you in alot of trouble. The crew you are applying for will give an insight on what needs to be done. Set Your Goals, Stick with it, Dont wonder off the path, What your aiming for will be yours. Im sure we will see you on the fireline. Takecare M.DIA.

      Morning Uzimike
      Thanks for the question im sorry you didnt get to see 20 ripped guys working out with shirts off but this video was to show the public what all wildland firefighters do for the physical requirement, as you can see in the video the physical requirements are at a minimum standard, the individuals are required to participate in the physical requirements and to perform more output than what is expected example 40 sit-ups in 60 seconds, if an individual makes it to 40 sit-ups in 30 seconds he or she still has 30 seconds on the clock to performs more reps and to not give up at 40 sit-ups, most of the individuals do go beyond whats to be expected, our physical fitness program after the fact that everyone passes the basic requirement will be to participate in daily crew physical fitness program. not only do we teach and perform physical fitness we as a crew must build mental fitness, one of the workouts performed is the Wounded Warrior in which one individual would have to carry an injured personnel on his own or as one team, Wildland firefighters do have a strenuous physical exam that makes sure everyone is fit for duty before being classified as a wildland firefighter by a qualified medical physician, the physical exam takes place before the physical requirement . the individuals do not need to look fit to perform this job it takes alot of heart to become a wildland firefighter, please do not judge a individual from the way he or she looks but judge him on what he or she puts at risk for other people in need of help. This job takes it toll on us and creates alot of stress but its a job that we all signed up for, we do understand the risks and the sacrifices for what we do and its always best to be prepared then to be unprepared mentally and physically. Being fit does not make anyone a better firefighter but it does help,
      its more about being safe and creating a team to help one another in a healthy cohesive fire community, with doing so we can be alert, keep calm, think clearly, act decisively. Again thanks for the question and we are glad that you are still in shape to do all those pushups and pullups for your age. Takecare Uzimike. M.DIA

      I was just being critical because I think our youth aren't the kids from many years ago. Sometimes I get shitty when I see a capable youth struggling with something I can do easily.....although it has never been easy for me but I worked up to it, but when I was young I was thin and fast from being active.
