      Hi Sheila
      Thanks for viewing our video, we really appreciate your thoughts and prayers for the crews that work on these wildfires, we take a lot of risk doing our job to save communities and especially keeping the public safe from wildfires, we are sorry to say that we are in New Mexico at this time helping our neighbors on the Dog Head incident, we were dispatched before the Cedar incident but we have many brothers and sisters from our region and other regions of the nation doing their job to protect the public on that incident, thanks again we really appreciate your comments. Take care Sheila. See you when the smoke clears. M.Dia

    Am Grateful. You saved me, when you fought the Station Fire, in So. Cal, in 2009. Now I live in AZ, and follow your goodness, dedication and your superior skills. Thank you is never enough. 2016 is a monster year for fires...

      Hi Patti
      Thank you so much for your kind words towards our crew and other crews nationwide, we remember those days when we battled the station fire and that was no easy task, we will continue to do what we can for the public to protect them from these out of control wildfires, it's a risky job to deal with but we love it and we love hearing from folks we came into contact with on the fireline and off the fireline. The nicest words from you can make us move mountains and that's truly a motivation for us. thank you so much for your kind words and remembering that we wildland firefighters nationwide risked our lives and did our best to stop that fire from putting public lives at risk. This 2016 fire season is already as you say a "Monster " and a sleeping giant were preparing ourselves for the worst scenarios of the year. At the end of it we will see you when the smoke clears, thanks again from your friends, the Geronimo Hotshots welcome you to AZ

I just figured I take this year and see whats out there with my options. I had applied to different agencies and the BLM. I have not heard anything back, so, I just took the offer out in Durango, CO. Yup everything is set just need a few training then the move out to CO. Hey man brotha, you guys be safe this season and Hope to run into guys somewhere out there.....

    • @mdia4989
      @mdia4989 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Joshua
      Thanks for the question, at this time I wear Whites rough out boots they are perfect due to the way they are built they have very good ankle support also they can last two or three fire seasons, these are heavy duty boots and can last a long time when walking and working on the fireline. If you want comfort try the Lowa or Haix wildland fire boots that are comfortable lightweight hiking boots but they do have its ups and downs when working on the fireline the glue that bonds the materials may separate or weaken and will not with stand the heat. Sorry for the late response I finally got off the fire line and had a hell of a day. I'm sure someone will give you another update on which boots to buy also for now I can't really think haha sorry had a busy day and planning for tomorrow's operation. Take care bud talk to you soon. It hypes me up every time I see your videos. I have a question though. I've been doing structure firefighting for 2 years but want to try new things and one is to become part of a hotshot crew. Do you have any information on how to get on a crew or any pointers? Awesome videos Mario!!!

    • @dragonfiredia
      @dragonfiredia  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Tony
      Thanks for viewing our crew video or videos, it always makes us happy here that the public or our brothers or sisters (firefighters) enjoy watching and have positive feedback. Thanks for the question and to share with you since you have been doing structure & I'm sure your department may have introduced you to the training G-130 it's similar to our suppression 130/190 courses but it refers to structure dealing with wildland due to most folks in the wildland urban interface. As of now hotshot crews are available nationwide and being dispatched to wildfires, if you wanna try something new start off with an wildland fire academy to get the basic training out of the way, find which hotshot crew you are wanting to join, make contact with the crew let them know your their to work and help as best as you can to benefit the crew with your experience, all hotshots crews and wildland firefighting agencies start taking applications early as November on usajobs, try to enter an application early as possible and get a physical screening done ASAP those can linger for a good while, stay in shape or continue working out, wildland is very strenuous and can take its toll on any physically fit individual, make sure you are ready to adapt to a changing environment, keep pushing forward even with the crew you want to join, be a team player and learn from your supervisors, keep safety in mind I'm sure your ready for change and you seem eager to do this job, ofcourse we will see you out on the fire line sooner or later. Takecare Tony, thanks for the input and thanks for your service to the public as a Structure Firefighter. Thanks again. M.Dia

      No bud that's not a rude question and no you don't have to stop chewing tobacco, just abide by the rules of the hotshot crew that you are planning on joining, every crew has a different set of rules so just respect the boundaries and limitations of the crew. We're not encouraging you to chew tobacco bud so please don't take it that way and feel free to ask questions anytime were always here for you and everybody else. Take care friend talk to you soon. Hi Geronimo Hotshots,
    This is just a general question but I was wondering what you would recommend to someone completely new to wildland firefighting with no previous experience at all when trying to apply for a job like this. Are there places that offer training when you start or do you have to have studied/got qualifications to be hired?
    Many thanks!

      Hi _wolfrace
      Thanks for the question and sorry for the late response were out here in Wyoming staying busy fighting wildfires but back to the question, so you wanna come out and battle wildfires well this is the place to do it with a type2, type 2 IA or a type 1 hotshot crew all you gotta do is look for a local wildland fire academy, check with the local forest service or look on the Internet for a course near by that teaches the courses listed below, These places offer the basic training that are required to become a wildland fire fighter these trainings include but not limited to are,
      S-130: Firefighter Training
      S-190: Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior
      I-100: Introduction to the Incident Command System
      L-180: Human Factors in the Wildland Fire Service
      NIMS 700,
      Sounds like a lot of training but these trainings are required and can help you become a wildland firefighter, once you do the required training you should be set to find a crew that you want to join on USAJOBS they usually start with applications in September through March, or you can contact the crew direct and to be honest that's what most crews want is to find out is who is applying in person so give a few calls do the training and you should be set, hopefully we will see you on the fire line. Thanks for the nice compliment on our video we are glad you enjoyed it. Take care friend if you have any other questions feel free to ask we will do the best we can to help you meet the goals you are seeking in the near future. See you soon friend, M.Dia

      Hi M. Dia, thank you so much for the detailed response, I really appreciate it. That's great advice, I'll look into how I can take part in courses like those as a UK citizen. I'm really really eager to get out into the wild and make a difference. That sound crazy what you're doing in Wyoming, like I said hope you all come home safe and sound, all the best to your brothers out there! Take care, Matthew

    Why dont you guys use demolition to knockout trees?

    • @mdia4989
      @mdia4989 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Morning Professor
      That's a great question, We are not authorized to use explosives. The use of explosives to take hazard trees down would raise safety concerns to a majority of the crew and adjoining forces on a uncontrolled fire edge. We are unsure of the pros and cons for using the explosives on the fireline or in a environment free of wildfires where it can be utilized in training. The Wildland Fire Crews are specially trained to cut trees down in different diameters for which they are qualified for which FAL1 would be the most advanced, these training give us the advantage to control the trees felling direction rather than using explosives where we would have no control and ad more fuel loading to the surface fire. The use of explosives by any fire crew would be a great risk. Safety is our top Priority, Hopefully this answered your question, Thanks again for the comment and viewing our video. Take care. M.Dia
