  • “Rule The Pack with Chevelle” is a Chevrolet dealer training film from the Fall of ’69 that compares the ’70 Chevelle with the Pontiac LeMans and Ford Torino. This film was intended for internal use at the dealership to educate sales staff and was not shown publicly.
This video was originally a filmstrip with the sound coming from a companion 33-1/3 rpm vinyl record with beeps to indicate when to advance to the next slide.
There are many more vintage dealer sales training videos coming so be sure to subscribe to The Steele Garage.
Chevelle and LeMans are registered trademarks of the General Motors Corporation. Torino is a registered trademark of the Ford Motor Company.

Brings back fond memories of those "beeps" in the educational filmstrips we watched in school as kids. LOL!

I graduated college in 69'. Bought a new 70' 2-door Torino GT. Ford's warranty on the 70's was one year unlimited mileage. I had so many warranty issues with that car, the the service writer told me that they were doing way too much warranty work on it. The saying at the time was FORD: Fix, Or, Repair, Daily. Thirty some new cars later, I've never owned another FORD!

The winner in the intermediate sedan class has to be ......Cutlass 😁 When it comes to intermediate wagons for 1970, Coronet/Satellite could carry a full sheet of plywood so they take the prize🤩

When I was growing up in Houston in the early seventies we had a lady neighbor with a 71 Torino coupe and another neighbor that had a Malibu or Chevelle 4 door of the same vintage and the Torino road smoother and was quieter than the Chevelle but here in Houston the Chevelle's air conditioning kicked ass compared to the Torino..
    I vividly remember that...
I also vividly remember the difference on the rough roads in my neighborhood,, the Chevy would bottom out bang and rattle and make other noises and the Torino floated over all that for some reason..

Why no Plymouth comparison instead of Pontiac?

Notice how when the lemans has the same features as the chevelle, they don’t mention that… they only compare it to Torino.

Take a close look at the gaps and panel fit on the picture at 3:23. The bumper on Chevelle below the headlights. Also where the grill meets the fender on Torino.

for all the put downs to ford from chevelle..funny they didnt mention how chevy got its 2 way tailgate ...or no talk of 6 cylinder engines...or how chevy offered the cheap ass ,outdated 2 speed powerglide ....interior dementions are only fractional differences ...alot of propaganda going on here

These type comparatives were so dishonest it’s funny. If their car is longer, then that is better. If their car is shorter then it’s more maneuverable.
I also notice a sneaky thing with the resale chart. Notice it is in dollars not percentage, also they are misleading in that they compare top of the line Malibu to stripper versions of the Ford and Pontiac.
It’s true that the GM cars were more substantially constructed than the Ford.

Thankfully a car salesman may here these points in a training film but would never use them in a dishonest or deceptive manner in order to a make a sale, right? :)
