I play because it's fun, gets me active, and I like guns, so being able to shoot them at people and play a competitive game without harming anyone is like crack to me.

I joined because I needed a way to physically rehab after I broke my leg. Turns out not wanting to get shot is a great way to learn to walk/run again. Now I’m in it because it’s an awesome sport, and my local community is an awesome group to be a part of.

I started airsoft as a way to fight social anxiety and make some friends and I can't recommend it enough!
Before airsoft I could never imagine talking to strangers due to my anxiety, on my second gameday I spent the whole lunch break talking with new people and having a great laugh, it's such a friendly and fun atmosphere and community. I'm so glad I found airsoft it has literally changed my life and improved my mental health no end.

    • @dalehepworth1647
      @dalehepworth1647 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

@@MRHOLLAND78 it really is great, may sound strange but the ability to socialise while hiding behind your face mask or character you want to portray and it all be seen as a totally normal part of the game is surprisingly helpful.
What I will say is ignore the videos you see about arguments and confrontation in airsoft, in reality everyone is friendly and generally don't take things seriously, most are just big children looking to have fun in a lighthearted environment. The flexibility to be able to play both your own way by yourself or to integrate into your team is great, and the other players are more than welcoming which ever way you choose to play.
The hardest part I found on my first game from a social anxiety point of view is simply getting yourself there, once your there its a whole different world, safe from the outside world surrounded by people with the same interest kind of detached from normal life.

    2. Test out kit.
    3. Teach younger/less experienced players.
Edit: 4. Yeah, it helps with my PTSD, in a unique way. Not going to go into it here, but I always feel better afterwards, from the comradery to the fast paced nature forcing my mind to think quickly as it used to. My wife can tell when it's time for me to get back into the field.

Fun fact the TH-camr “tRexarms” actually did a study and found that an avid airsoft player shooting a rifle for the first time is better than almost 70% of US law-enforcement and military that he had trained it’s also considered Buy some to be one of the easiest ways to practice reloading and even malfunction clearing drills

Trex arms also lies a lot and isn't someone you should listen to. He's a good shooter, but his tactics will almost always get you killed/hit because he's just not a technique guy. Shooting a gun he's your guy, but if its movement you're looking for id try anyone else before even considering learning from him.

I believe it was a Japanese airsofter that they brought over to the U.S.
Kid has been using AS for years because Japan is seriously strict on gun control.
After just a few short periods of getting use to the actual recoil of the pistol and rifle, he was sailing through the runs and was actually blistering fast with the reloads and transitions..

I got into airsoft a few years ago, and from the beginning I knew I would enjoy the sport. Didn’t really take off until I moved in with my grandparents when my friends and I decided to use it as a way to hangout, blow off some steam, test ourselves, and hopefully make some new friends. We went from backyard games with the two of us, to eventually having a 4 man team go to an indoor field, and to a Mil-Sim in 2021-22. Unfortunately, s*** happens and I had to have surgery. I haven’t been to the field in 6 months and feel like I’m starting to lose a big part of myself.

I had no intention of actually playing… in fact None of My friends prior to AirSoft, even knew anything about it. At first, All I was really looking at was a M16A1 replica and some 1967-1968 Marine Vietnam issued gear… Why? I had found a duffel bag and box of photos that My Dad had stored. In it was a Picture of Him in Vietnam on one of His two tours… 1967-1968. I just wanted to somehow memorialize Him in some way. As I started talking to different shops about a replica M16A1 (full metal) I started seeing replica’s of what I carried as a Marine. I watched some videos of gameplay and alone visited a few fields before actually playing.
My first game hooked Me and as You stated in the video, it relieved stress and some anxiety. I have never been diagnosed with PTSD, but can understand the problem(s) from being in an active Combat Zone. AirSoft weirdly puts Me in a Mor controlled headspace and does relieve Anxiety.
I do go full on MilSim kit… most all of My issued equipment still fits.
Whether I’m Full CQB mode or in an overwatch DMR position, it’s just plain FUN. 😁

As a combat veteran of Afghanistan, no more truth has been spoken about it combating PTSD. Playing airsoft gives me a way to get the adrenaline rush that actual combat gives you. If you have never experienced real combat, it's a high that no drug or anything will ever give you. I missed that high and started playing again. It has been a way for me to channel it and I couldn't be more thankful for it.

This is funny because I was a professional DJ (and you want to start it as a new hobby like I did with Airsoft) and did it as my main job for many years until I got disabled. After years of needing a wheelchair I am back on my own feet and need the right amount of sport. That is where Airsoft came in. I love it because you can decide how much intensity you will get. I bought one of the products you recommended and I think it is just perfect. It is the Ares Amoeba M4 CCC that does make a backup obsolete. Not needing to change the mag every few secounds is just perfect for those damaged hands. Keep on doing the good stuff - wish you all the best! Greetings from Dresden/Germany

I first played because I felt alone in life. Depression sucks, but getting shot at sucks less. It helped me push through dark times and gave me a hobby to continue on with and some comrades to run into every so often. I was a kid back then though (and we all know the stigma children in our hobby get). Nowadays, I stay in it both to combat depression and to help first timer's break out of their shell and join our community. There's a lot of reasons on this list why I play. I started because of videogames, the first kit I put together was a combination between Blitz and Jager from Rainbow Six: Siege. But after I got into it I really just enjoy all the replica's, not to mention meeting new friends and actually leaving my house for once. I found airsoft because of USAirsoft, I was bored on TH-cam one day watching DemoRanch and got recommended one of your reviews and that opened my eyes back up to airsoft. Now I am hooked. I have spent so much time learning about airsoft and learning how to fix the replicas that now its just a part of my gaming room. Thank you Scott. Really is a great hobby!

  • @InkblotHyena
    @InkblotHyena 2 ปีที่แล้ว +32

Why do I play? Well, my father exposed me to guns at an early age. I remember going out with him to a range and firing a Ruger 10/22, and it got me hooked. My father bought a Black Ops M4 at Walmart, and it got me interested in airsoft. I still have it. When my brother went off into the Army, I was more interested in military stuff due to him. I got into videogames, and fell in love with the AKM thanks to Call of Duty and Battlefield. I remembered airsoft after finding reviews for airsoft AKs on TH-cam when I was looking for an AK replica, and, after saving up money, I bought a CYMA AKM. It helped get me into the hobby. Just a cheap ol' AKM from CYMA got me into airsoft hardcore, so much so that I've got multiple builds and loadouts for various reasons..
tl;dr, introduced to guns at an early age. Brother in military. Lots of videogames. Cheap M4 giving me some basic ideas. Now I'm hooked lol. Besides. Airsoft is cheaper than real guns.

Speaking of vets in airsoft, I've met a few playing the game and they've always been the most friendly and fun people to be around
As for why I play, gun laws in the UK restrict me from owning firearms (Can't get a license due to needing to be signed off from a doctor and I'm diagnosed with depression)
Its great for getting me fitter, after a game I usually find myself struggling to walk from overworking myself and sleeping for hours when getting home (Once slept for 17 hours after my first game since Covid)
Its great to meet new people and I always find myself chatting to people since I usually go alone and I have bad anxiety and autism so it takes me out of my comfort zone and forces me to interact with people which helps the anxiety
Sadly my closest site is 2 hours away on public transport, its an indoor site I don't really like all that much but its something
every other site has no public transport so collecting replicas is a big plus for me

I started playing because even when I was just a little boy, my dad was really into airsoft, and was big enough of a fanatic to get a nice surplus of gear and guns, and run his own CQB field. That got me interested, and later in recent years, I began to work at a few local fields too, earning my keep in the community that was raised into from a very young age. But even all that aside, airsoft is just a very fun and educative sport, and without it I wouldn't know so much about how firearms work, all the creative tricks people do to fine-tune their equipment, and hell, it's really fun to dress up as a soldier and shoot your friends and other cool people without actually risking any serious injuries.
Overall, I play it because I was luckily born at the right time and right place for it!

However, the #1 reason I’ve played this long is because of the overwhelming presence of outstanding moral character amongst the people I’ve met over the years. Fellow airsoft players are some of the funniest, coolest, most brutally honest people I’ve ever met. I’m well aware that not everyone in the sport is nice but I’d be hard pressed to find another activity that not only is fun as hell, but also fosters this kind of comradery. Thx guys for a super fun 8 years:):):) I look forward to what the future holds for sports like this:)

I got into airsoft because my friend's gun broke and he wanted me to fix it. People bring me all different sort of things to fix. When I learned how airsoft guns work and started tinkering, I was hooked. I've built many guns, fixed many guns, painted, refinished, made parts.... The game of airsoft goes along with that as well. I enjoy the tech side more than playing, although I do enjoy playing. I want to win more than have fun though, so when I play it is with adults or friends. Unlimited respawns is like cancer to me, hate it.

Buying a cheap gun to learn. But once I graduated high school I branched off to college and now I’m in the military. I’m now getting back into it since I have time off during the weekends

My first airsoft experience was way back in 1992. I was just fresh out of college, had a job and a little money to spend on myself. An officemate of mine was selling a second hand Maruzen Mac 10 (all replicas back then, and even the BBs were made in Japan) and it reminded me of the real steel version a friend of my dad's let me play around with (unloaded of course) back when I was in high school. He introduced me to the game and I used my old bdu from my army reserve training, removed all the patches except the flag. So basically I joined because of nostalgia, both from handling a real weapon and from experiencing combat that was not included in the reservist training.

As someone who recently tried getting into it myself, I believe I got into it for a few reasons
    1. The community
By far probably the biggest reason why I joined was to join the community and make new friends. It seems like such a fun thing to be involved in and it's as if the community is just great to hang around with.
    2. The Replicas
I would consider myself as a person who enjoys firearms and I am fascinated by them, so I'm simply just looking into my interests without going out to buy a $1,000 firearm and actually deal with that. Also because I can use them in action without actually injuring people seriously so, win win!
    3. It's generally just a fun hobby
I just enjoy running around and coming up with strategies. It's one of the things I enjoy about it, real time strategy. Another thing is the thrill and excitement that comes with the paranoia. It gets the adrenaline flowing, y'know?

It all started after my buddy was talking about Hi-Capa (not knowing what it was until I searched it up). After purchasing my first Hi-capa 1911, I was hooked. I started buying everything to start off a new hobby now that I have access to adult money. Airsoft also gives me a reason to stay active and live my gamer dreams after playing COD, Battlefield, and so many other FPS type of games. So far after playing a couple of matches, I like the community and people you can play with and against. Majority of time, everyone is hella chill and it's all fun. And the plus side, there's the arena that's close to me and it being an indoor facility is HUGE! Looking forward to all the memories that I make with playing airsoft and meeting new people!

I so wish we had freedom in Australia to enjoy Airsoft.
I myself am in to dartsoft and the reason being is the sense of community and the hobby grade blasters we use and take such great pride in, there’s no better feeling than creating your perfect custom blaster that tailored to you, I find such joy in sourcing the best components I can get my hands on and just dive deep in to all the technicalities of the whole hobby.
And of corse there’s the games themselves involving all the tactics.
Love your channel by the way…it’s number one Airsoft platform I watch to get my Airsoft fix.

Second time watching and saw that I didn't comment. I'm in Airsoft for several reasons: 1. I need some hobby that is an active sport because I'm too lazy to go to the gym. 2. One of my best friends bugged me and I bugged him until we finally went to play. 3. The guns, I love the haptics and just the "reality" of playing with them. It's way better than video games. 4. The community that is just made of people who know how to enjoy life, they're cringe but at least they're free! 5. Just pure and nothing but fun and joy. I get so much out of a 4 hour drive to and back for 6 hours of gameplay and when I go to work walking like I got frigged in the booty because my thighs are still burning I remember all the joy I had every second. It's awesome!

I personally don’t go out of my way to play. I’m more into real guns and gear, I’m going into the National Guard as a 91F and enrolling at SDI.
I played a lot when I was younger, had a group of friends I’d get together every weekend. My little cousin went with me a few times. He LOVED it. He still plays to this day, I gave him all my old gear but nowadays I have an actual kit. I’ll take him to play and I’ll go on the field with him, it’s more so for getting to know my kit, what I can do with it, what needs adjusting, where is improvement needed? Etc..but there’s also some good training, more so getting into muscle memory.(mag changes, switching from rifle to side arm etc.) Plus playing in a real kit with level III+ plates is a really good workout!

I'll say this much: as of this comment's post date, I only ever played once, back in 2019, but for all the shortcomings I experienced (suboptimal face/head protection, poor visibility [I'm nearsighted, and at the time, I didn't have any face protection that fit my glasses, but I bought a Dye i4 mask that fits 'em perfectly], being out of shape, and miserable weather), I actually really enjoyed it and I plan to play again at some point soon.
Now, as for why I played in the first place, and want to do so again:
    - It's an interesting way of getting and staying physically active, and there's a sense of motivation to want to be in better shape to play (similar to LARPing, how people will actually exercise for that so they're in shape to roleplay whatever they're doing).
    - It's a way to experience "play" combat that isn't on a screen (with a bunch of hate-filled gamer maniacs yelling obscenities, teamkilling and teabagging you, etc.), but also where your life isn't in danger (since live rounds have a habit of causing that) _and_ you don't have to go through BCT to be able to go out and shoot people.
    - I'm a hoplophile (that being a fancy word for having a _non-sexual_ passion for firearms) at my core, and being able to actually _do_ something with beautiful replicas of cool firearms other than just stare at them is a real home run for me.

I found myself regretting going when i came home... but that next friday rolled around and i started getting the itch to go again (despite still having welts and broken skin from the week prior). Still going to rent for a while... but defenitely looking into getting to own a set up for both me and my oldest.

Personally joined because I was a young ww2 buff that saved up and put together an impression and was bummed that I was too young for blank fire re-enacting at the time so I looked into airsoft and I’ve ran with it since. Now I use the same kit to let my nerdy side show while teaching those who are interested a little about history and to have a bit of an escape from the stress of being a 3 sport high school athlete that’s chest deep in college recruiting and everything else that comes along with it. It was also a bonus that my brother who played in the backyard with his friends when he was in high school got back into it and now joins me with his dual Mac11s when I go to my local field. It’s an amazing escape from reality, get out for a few hours bond with my brother make new friends and get away from the calls, letters, and emails from college coaches wanting to travel around the country to see my play that never ceases to stress me out more than I ever thought it would. Anyone looking to get into it my advice is DO IT!

I haven’t played airsoft yet, but paintball is sooooo expensive. I have a mid tier marker, costed 650-700 when it was new (used for 450), the hopper costed 200, the air tank costed 175, the mask costed 150, and that’s just the gear that you actually need. Then you will usually end up buying a spare hopper, mask, and tank after getting some experience because you will need the spares. God, then the gear I’ve bought that isn’t necessary but just makes life a little nicer, such as pants, pads, jerseys, gear bag(s), tech kits, and even little things like barrel swabs. I def wanna get into airsoft purely because of the price point, I can get a high end pistol (I wanna play pistol only) with upgraded internals for the same price as a mid tier/ upper mid tier marker, plus the people in airsoft I’ve met around my area are a lot less toxic.

I also served in Afghanistan in 2002, 2004 and 2006. I was struggling with PTSD. and found video games like call of duty, arma, company of heroes. and started active or a shooting range with former colleagues. until in 2014 someone came up with airsoft. it was just legal in the Netherlands. and we went for an introduction. I was sold!! bought a replica and we started a team. played some milsims and started focusing on that. now i see all the reasons why people start with airsoft. Besides the fun and exercise side of it. One reason I like AS, is for the simple training aspect of it. To me, it is the best force on force training you can get..without joining the military or something, lol.
Sure, paintball gives a bigger ' pop ' on impact that drives home the difference between cover and concealment and the urge of NOT getting hit, etc. But AS has the better markers/replicas...you could almost certainly find an AS replica of your real life platform and use it to get use to handling it and manipulating it and transitioning from primary to secondary.
You can also use them as a form of training for trigger squeeze and wrist control and finger placement..

First: Videogames. Not at all original, but this is what we all begin with. I like first person shooters, CoD, BF and others. And that gave birth to my intrest in guns themselves. Then i started to look at airsoft and paintball. I didnt knew what to start with, i just had an idea, but no airsoft nor paintball fields around, so i was pretty much stuck at this point. But one day i was just chilling in class. E-learning ended like 3 weeks before vacation, so every teacher just sitting doing their own things and we were just talking. I was sitting and watching airsoft, but i started to lose hope anyway. And then teacher asked what are our plans for 2 months of spare time. One guy said "I will probably play airsoft with my friends". That spark in form of word "airsoft" ignited my hopes once again. I said out loud "You play airsoft?!" and with that sentence your friednship and my journey with airsoft begun. I met his friends and my first airsoft game ended better then i expected: I didnt end first (we are doing mostly free for all's). Today im running around in forest with sniper rifle and still doing nothing but being a movable practise target, but i dont care, im having fun just running with my guns. I love airsoft. Why do i play it? Because Im having fun, It takes me outside. Its a videogame but in 4D. It lets me interact with guns without doing any harm. Im very introverted, and yet i met new people who i can have fun with. Theres also a weird satisfaction with just having sometning that looks like a gun in your room. So, once again, I love airsoft
PS: We are playing in the forest in terrain of a village that most of my group live in, we have a permission to play there as long as we stop if someone enters the play area or is in range of our replicas.
    EDIT: Sorry for bad English

I started playing to enjoy time with my son and because I love guns and shooting them. I currently have 4 MP5s, 3 M4s, an APR9 a SCAR, and a VSR 10. Love to collect them as well. Fun times, oh and they are much cheaper to shoot than real guns are.
