About the Red Tape Recorder. I found the best use is against multiple engi nests where you know that you can't kill and sap them all. Especially in a hot zone, where your team and the nest are clashing constantly. In those situations, a normal sapper would only deal some health damage, but the red-tape delevels the buildings, makes them weaker, and takes more resources to build up again, especially when they are simultaneously under constant attack and in need of repair. The tactic is to go in, sap as much as you can, and ringer out, rinse, and repeat in coordination with your team's pressure. In those scenarios does the Red Tape Recorder shine. The red tape recorder does actually have one only vaguely niche use - if you are playing against mini sentry spammers the increased sap time is a bonus as generally the engi will not return to his mini and so it results in an increased down time on the minis. Also Rip Elmaxo’s fan

It's not common that I find something so intriguing that I maintain my interest in it over days. not a spy main here, but i love using the red-tape recorder to mess with gunslinger engis, if only because you can't destroy your mini-sentry with the PDA while it is being sapped. the engi has to physically haul his ass back to the mini to destroy the sapper, or wait an agonizing... however long it is to have to re-deploy it. i like doing this because i'm sadistic and hate the gunslinger
The only use I've found for the red tape recorder is denying frontier justice engineers orgasms by forcing them to wait foreverfor their bullshit crits, hopefully getting them killed in some way in the process, that use you said is decent too

TF2's lost much of its quality over the past few years. The community is extremely obnoxious and with a superiority complex and elitist caste system based on who is the biggest loser with the most money spent on hats and time wasted in front of their PCs, most weapons are but shadows of their former selves due to insanely bad and stupid rebalances and nerfs, Meet Your Match killed the game, every update breaks something in the game, the only meaningful attention it gets from devs is to flood the shitty overrated overpriced cosmetics lootbox casino with more hats for the insecure small dick playerbase, there's a tendency to gatekeep new players solely because they don't own cosmetics (lmao), the anti-cheat (VAC) literally does not work, bots are a real problem that they refuse to fix, and the entire game's code is expired spaghetti held together by duct tape. But it still has a lot of personality and synergy between its classes, the community-made content in the server browser is amazing and you have some of the most variety in playing the same game over and over and over again with stuff like Class Wars, 100% Crits, VSH, Deathrun, Dodgeball, Randomizer, x10, Balloon Race and many others. It is an experience unlike any other when you get it right. It's worth a try at least once!
Instant respawn 2 Fort server, Diamondback, Sapper and I bet you he could do it in the span of a week or two. He's that insane... Literally, he should seek help, like who the hell looks at 100 days of spy and goes, "yeah that's a good idea" like bro please think of your health. 🙏
Despite playing Medic for half a dozen seasons of UGC highlander, spy is my most played class by a significant margin. And for most of that, I was that Kunai/Dead Ringer/Ambassador asshole. I even started carrying around a pocket watch and butterfly knife in college. Christ I was an ass.

Despite going in different directions (I personally don't go out of my way to focus on trickstabs, preferring a more subtle playstyle), Spy's will generally end up at the same place: enjoying this incredibly draining class whose gameplay is best described as a rollercoaster of ups and downs.

I have massive respect for spies after this video. I used to use spy and thought I was just playing it wrong and that it was easy to learn. Your Eternal Reward can solve the multiple sentry problem assuming you don’t drop a stitch and lose your disguise. Gaining the disguise on stab is often enough (assuming the sentry isn’t looking directly at you, at close range, with a set of rockets ready) to fool it into letting you go deal with the second nest.
A video like this is why TF2 will never die. 3 hours of probably the most vile torture process of playing and improving as spy. Congrats for having more patience than most with this class. RIP elmaxo's fan, you didn't deserve the wrath of the frenchman being brought down upon you.
When it comes to playing spy in pubs, eventually you will play so well that you cause 5 pyros to run around in circles spraying fire everywhere. That's the point where you switch out. Also at 47:00 you did have an escape route - the teleporter.

It's not common that I find something so intriguing that I maintain my interest in it over days. I spent all my lunchbreaks and train rides to and from work this week catching up, much like a good Netflix series that you've just started on.. I love listening to Dr. Maxo’s speech patterns slowly become more and more toxic and emotional the deeper he is into the challenge. We finally have objective, clear proof spy MAKES people toxic.
it is sad that Dr. Maxo had to put up with spy for a full 100 days, but he made it through. His sacrifice pushed the fields of spyology and classism in general ahead by decades if not centuries.

not a spy main here, but i love using the red-tape recorder to mess with gunslinger engis, if only because you can't destroy your mini-sentry with the PDA while it is being sapped. the engi has to physically haul his ass back to the mini to destroy the sapper, or wait an agonizing... however long it is to have to re-deploy it. i like doing this because i'm sadistic and hate the gunslinger

The only use I've found for the red tape recorder is denying frontier justice engineers orgasms by forcing them to wait foreverfor their bullshit crits, hopefully getting them killed in some way in the process, that use you said is decent too

TF2's lost much of its quality over the past few years. The community is extremely obnoxious and with a superiority complex and elitist caste system based on who is the biggest loser with the most money spent on hats and time wasted in front of their PCs, most weapons are but shadows of their former selves due to insanely bad and stupid rebalances and nerfs, Meet Your Match killed the game, every update breaks something in the game, the only meaningful attention it gets from devs is to flood the shitty overrated overpriced cosmetics lootbox casino with more hats for the insecure small dick playerbase, there's a tendency to gatekeep new players solely because they don't own cosmetics (lmao), the anti-cheat (VAC) literally does not work, bots are a real problem that they refuse to fix, and the entire game's code is expired spaghetti held together by duct tape.
But it still has a lot of personality and synergy between its classes, the community-made content in the server browser is amazing and you have some of the most variety in playing the same game over and over and over again with stuff like Class Wars, 100% Crits, VSH, Deathrun, Dodgeball, Randomizer, x10, Balloon Race and many others.
It is an experience unlike any other when you get it right. It's worth a try at least once!

Despite playing Medic for half a dozen seasons of UGC highlander, spy is my most played class by a significant margin. And for most of that, I was that Kunai/Dead Ringer/Ambassador asshole. I even started carrying around a pocket watch and butterfly knife in college.

It's honestly really nice watching this video to reflect on my own experiences playing Spy for so long. Despite going in different directions (I personally don't go out of my way to focus on trickstabs, preferring a more subtle playstyle), Spy's will generally end up at the same place: enjoying this incredibly draining class whose gameplay is best described as a rollercoaster of ups and downs.
i saw this comment when i was like an hour in, and thought someone had died. Didnt even realize when he mentioned punching his fan that that's what this was about. Took me till the dedication at the literal last minute of the video to connect the dots lmfao. It's been a long day

I have massive respect for spies after this video. I used to use spy and thought I was just playing it wrong and that it was easy to learn. My whole mindset was "invis and then click on back" but it takes a lot to master spy. I see now how much time and mental effort goes into playing spy. I hope that you have recovered from your brain-rot and may your fan rest in peace.
Its trippy to think most current TF2 players dont remember the OG Ambassadar. Stabbystabby was terrifying all of highlander with it and then almost retired when it was nerfed.

Your Eternal Reward can solve the multiple sentry problem assuming you don’t drop a stitch and lose your disguise. Gaining the disguise on stab is often enough (assuming the sentry isn’t looking directly at you, at close range, with a set of rockets ready) to fool it into letting you go deal with the second nest.

When it comes to playing spy in pubs, eventually you will play so well that you cause 5 pyros to run around in circles spraying fire everywhere. That's the point where you switch out.

Man, I've gone close to four years of picking up and dropping tf2 constantly, playing roughly 2 to 6 hours of game time after months of never touching it, and this is the first time I feel like I want to go out of my way to get tired of the game.
