- A relatively quick look at the basics of getting started in airsoft: What will I need? How much does it costs? Where do I find airsoft sites and of course what to expect when you get there! I've tried to keep this to the very basics to give a good introduction and then will expand in more detail in the future.

Yup :( Even had some examples behind me and totally forget... stupid one to forget too, finger shots really sting.

Hey man, I know this comment is pretty late, but that is for a reason. I wanted to get into airsoft after watching youtubers play. It looked so fun but I had no idea how to even start. I watched this video, went out to buy a $100 gun and some glasses, and went to an indoor arena. It was so much fun! I have since went to large milsims in different states and such. I was scrolling on youtube again today and saw this video, and I was reminded of when I first started. So I just wanted to say thank you sir, for making this video and getting so many people, me included, into airsoft!
I can’t seem to find a good beginner gun, what would you recommend or maybe what did you use your first time?
Clarisse go it evik for airsoft gi if you are in the US and look at some g&g stuff. They have guns for under $200 that are really good

Only item you neglected to mention is hydration. This might be my experience given that I’m in a bit of a drier region, but I’d say the most common injury I see (aside from the ankle injuries you mentioned) are heat casualties.
A camelbak, a canteen you can carry on the field (so with a pouch) something like that can keep you running on the field and enjoying the day instead of ending up with a headache.
Most of the fields I’ve played at require you have some sort of hydration with you on the field.
Otherwise, great starter list / introductory video!
I forgot gloves also (despite having a pair behind me) but that's a good call, when I come to refresh this video I'll definitely include hydration, thanks! :)

I entirely agree with most of your recommendations, but I have a couple suggestions. First, if you are going into a CQB/CQC environment, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND AN ATHLETIC PROTECTOR/NUT CUP. As a player, and occasional ref, I CAN'T COUNT how many times I have been/seen players shot in the junk. While generally it's not a huge deal, and it won't happen often, but when it does you will be very unhappy for a while. (Short side story, had a player get hit in the junk from 15 feet away, and was in so much pain he stripped off all face protection, and puked on the spot. I'm not kidding when I say this will make you SO much happier in the long run) Second, for those who do wear glasses, make sure you find goggles that can accommodate your glasses without pushing them around too much OR being too loose. If they are too tight, you may find that they are hard to get on and off, and then end up making your head/face hurt, but if they are too lose they might not protect your eyes and end up causing MANY more issues for you.
Just a couple of recommendations from my experiences as a ref, and a player
We got a real MVP right here. Looking out for us. A true champion of the people
Oddytwin I think I'll be done with airsoft now...
I mean, Airsoft isn't a sport for everyone. Got to be okay with the down sides. But hey, both my hobbies are fairly dangerous
Btw Wasted, if you come to the US and want to try out some of the airsoft thats's in the smaller communities, come to Michigan, where you get every experience. Everything from hot, and sunny, to a real blizzard. The field I play on has a 16k sq ft indoor field in an old factory.
Oddytwin thanks for the recommendation on the glasses but for me I have learnt to rather just take of my glasses and leave it with someone who isn't playing or leave it in the car
Gear I had for my first ever game:
1# Croccs - Tactical battle-ready shoes that everyone can get
2# Mittens - Most comfortable hand protection
3# The hoodie - Nothing says chad more than a 5-year-old hoodie that you only wear at home now
4# Second hand AR with a broken fire mode switch - Yep, my trigger finger is that quick. definitely not going full auto indoors.

Step 1: don’t have a poor, average salary.
It's tough when you are young or struggling on income for sure, I've been there myself... but not impossible. Depending where you live there can be very good second hand markets both on kit and AEGs themselves that saves a ton over buying things new with honestly little downside if you are willing to learn maintenance. Sites vary, but there are also places that focus on making the experience cheap.
If travel is the issue, then I feel ya... not much you can do if there's no site near you unless local laws allow for setting up something yourself or local club games, but airsoft is definitely not dominated by money, just does need a little investment to enjoy.
I've personally only ever bought 1 new rifle, the rest have been second hand, and the one new one was from the cheapest end possible. I'd rather work on them and save cash!
I’m young and I have to use the power of the purse so yea
I’m 17 and work part time min wage at a gas station and I can easily afford Airsoft. Now, I had to switch to Airsoft from paintball because it’s WAY more expensive. But Airsoft is realistically really cheap, and anyone who has a job can scrape together a couple hundred bucks to start out, and just rent if you really wanna play.
Howie Mandel and if it’s still tight, ditch all the bullshit MilSim stuff. 90% of it is costume stuff anyways and is totally unnecessary for the average player on the average field
I'm sorry but I have to agree, don't get into airsoft if you don't have money, you'll only be teasing your self by looking at all the shit you can't afford xD

But younger people might be able to go 2x as fast, I assume you are young. So 12mph and 36mph respectively. I assume the driving speed on Google maps is the streets speed limit and a majority of the drive will probably be 55mph. For an average of 50 given stops, traffic, and slower streets. 50/3 is still over 15mph which would be really hard to do. I would expect a biking trip to take 6-10x the driving time, realistically. It will also give you a better idea to determine if you hit somebody or not. And if somebody claims that you didn’t hit them with a ref or something, you know they’re lying.
Or use a flashlight. 🤷🏽♂️
Having played paintball for years,, I kinda know what to expect. A friend recommended the CYMA M-14 full size and it works wonderfully. Comes from the factory with a 6.05mm barrel, fairly tight tolerance so must use quality bb's and I find it works best with about 32gram bb's. What you said about face and eye protection cannot be stressed enough. Do NOT skimp or be cheap about the face and eye protection you buy. Often you may come around a corner and exchange shots with an opponent at close range. Getting hit in the face at close range is something you will not soon forget and if it hits an eye, you just lost one. Protection is number one.
Airsoft review I can get behind. Saw this a long time ago. Opinion hasn’t changed. Still recommend to any new players I come across
Thanks man :) Glad you feel it was appropriate!
Matt Brown I want to start soon and this is very helpful
I love this guys accent its just 👌
Thanks, I'm getting into airsoft right now and its fun. Thank you for the advice!
New video out showing the differences between face protection and how best to keep yourself safe! Backs up what I said here but really pushes home the issues with mesh!
Check it out before buying any eye protection! Link here: th-cam.com/video/qdGR0IbK4S4/w-d-xo.html
what you should get is a good military style vest, one that has back prot as well. I have one that is very similar to the real thing. You really don't need to waste money on a vest and belt, a single vest that is complete will do. The magazines are more orderly, in actual pouches, and you can easily attach the pouches to molle. Just a thought, seems more efficient :),
w4stedspace are you going to start doing more airsoft vids
exact same starting gear mate, down to the fine hat
great video, myself and my daughter are thinking of taking this up, just the advice I was after thankyou
Jokes aside, very useful video however I have to point out at approx 13:10 you begin to explain why not to purchase a sidearm first. Where I am from, local sites I have called and enquired about only provide a sidearm for rental. So to be honest. I don’t think it matters too much if a sidearm is your first gun, if you can find the fun in moving through with just a pistol, you immediately will know you will love and appreciate the time and effort you went/will go through to acquire your UKARA license ID.
In return for doing such a great video, I'm leaving comments as you requested. You've got a great demeanor and pacing when speaking so it's easy to listen and learn from your post. You also have a rather well balanced opinion that takes into account a lot of what is noobs are thinking about and steer us in the right direction. I look forward to other posts! Good job. Oh yeah, I don't think you mentioned gloves. May not be needed on day 1 and many may like the dexterity loss when wearing them. But I can see how they're a good and inexpensive thing to have with you.
cool comment :)

Wow, I thought that your chennel is specialised in airsoft, untill I saw your content! + this video is one of the most viewed ones! Good on ya mate
Awesome video. Very helpful. Keep it up.👍
THE BEST STARTER VIDEO. i used it and watched it for the 3 days before my first airsoft game.
Great Video but you forgot one thing.... Gloves, after my first game my hands were in Bits :D I ordered good Head gear and face protection and Gloves
Yup... they were even on the table behind me ready to show and talk about my recommendations and then just forgot :(
w4stedspace yea they are an often overlooked bit of kit that's quite inexpensive and in my eyes essential
w4stedspace I'm not sure if it is in the rules but, if seen people real close to people and sometimes they say BANG BANG and that player is out, is that a rule?
Cum Guzzler38
Michael Carroll i got metal laced gloves for my first game cuz i wasnt taking chances
This was a great video mate, cheers so much
Very good tutorial video I would very much like to try airsoft. I'm 67 is that to old to start .I'm retired and need do some kind of activity.
Going back to your video, you explained in detail what is needed .10 out of 10. Great advice.
As long as you are feeling OK with the concept there's no reason why 67 would be too old! One of the best bits about airsoft is the inclusivity and the ability to do things at your own pace regardless of who you are or your age.
Great for exercise and having a reason to meet new folks. As options go, it's a pretty good one and lacks some of the downsides of a lot of sports where you end up a bit more forced pace wise. It also has the secondary benefit of having plenty of tinkering and prep done at home so even when you aren't actively playing it's a fun hobby.
Thanks for the kind comments, glad to have helped!
