Gotta feeling this was posted last week for a few hours and then was taken down for whatever reason. I know I watched it while eating breakfast but it disappeared from my history later.
Made one after work tonight and was very pleasantly surprised with how much I liked the coffee and mint together. Definitely gonna make these for guests in the future.
Vieux is pronounced "voo" if you're in NOLA and Vee-eu (where eu sounds about halfway between "bell" and "bull" think indistinct vowel sounds from Peter Sellers as Jacques Clouseau) by the French, and although I couldn't find any Martinique creole speakers saying it in a few minutes of searching, I did find a video discussing how creole is a fading language among the youth if not a dying one yet.
There a place around here, and in SF, that's called Philz Coffee. They have a Mint Mojito coffee on their menu where they put actual mint leaves in your hot or iced coffee. At first I was grossed out by it, but they actually paired really well together! Reminds me of this drink a bit. I'm gonna make this one tonight!
Philz Coffee that started in the Bay Area makes a mint mojito iced coffee that’s super good and really popular. Basically just muddled mint on their iced coffee with sugar and cream.
This one wasn't my favorite. I made it last night (with Mr. Black and Clement VSOP Agricole Vieux) and something about it didn't quite jive for me. I think it was the combination of the Agricole Vieux and Mr. Black. I'm going to give it another go and sub in Pussers. I may try swapping the lime for lemon as well. I want to like this drink.
Have you tried using L'Orgeat liqueur? I've been using it rather than making orgeat or buying a premade orgeat since it's more shelf stable (it's got alcohol) . It's not easy to find but I was able to get it in the Bay area. It's way more convenient but not convinced it's interchangeable.
I’ve used it before. Had a sample at work for a while, it’s not interchangeable in that it doesn’t have the same texture or feel, flavor is alright though
Anyone know if you can use a dark rum with Pure sugar cane juice to replace rhum agricole? I know its not the same thing, but flavor profile wise is that even a sane question?
I feel like this is more of a mai tai variation than a Queen's Park swizzle variation. An oz of Clement VSOP and an oz of Appleton 12 make a mean rum combo for mai tais
Hey! I’m really enjoying the videos. I have one question, and I’m sorry if you have answered this. When and why would a bartender use crushed ice vs cracked ice vs a whole ice cube? Thank you in advanced
The Educated Barfly thank you! Maybe I can simplify. I understand how crushed ice is perfect in mules, smashes, and juleps. I use bigger clear ice in my old fashioneds.. but I don’t understand the best use of cracked ice
Cracked Ice is when you crack a cube with a spoon and you do it when stirring a cocktail meant to be served up. What I think you mean is shaved ice and the best use for that is when you want to blend a cocktail into a slushy. You can also make drinks you use pebble ice for with shaved ice if you want but those drinks dilute much quicker
I see the mistake now that was made the first time around. Glad I used lime juice instead of lemon juice anyways, as this seemed like a daiquiri or caipirinha tiki variation
Am I the only one who doesn't think "Daiquiri" when hearing rum+orgeat+lime(+mint)? This seems like a Mai Tai variation to me, more than a Daiquiri. Looks good though, I'll probably try it. But with a Jamaican rum instead of Agricole, because I don't have it.
@@TheEducatedBarfly sad day - hopefully you get out there soon! Your videos helping me crush my quarantine work day when it is slow as anything. Keep it up
I'm sorry if this has been addressed in another video, but you have too fuckin many of them for me to have watched more than a small percentage of. What orgeat do you use? If homemade, can you link a recipe?
Swizzle is much more fun than shaking in my opinion
Hey havent watched a video in like 8 months!! I love your channel and the fact that its the same format!
I feel like I’ve seen this one before .
Okay, good, it wasn't just me.

I was thinking the same thing - mint & coffee mmm I don’t know about that - then you assured me it works. So you convinced me to try that tonight. 👍
The first drink you’ve made from a bar that I’ve actually been to! Looks awesome!
Oh my god coffee and rum, I'm already sold.

Hah, had the same thought and came down here to post it. Philz proves that mint and coffee go surprisingly well together! 👍
Coffee and mint together? There's a place called "Philz coffee" gourmet coffee chain that does this, and it's AMAZING!
I wasn’t gonna make those until you said the coffee actually works works with the mint. Thanks Leo

You had me at Tiki.
Finally back online..really good video! I love Tiki drinks :)
What's a decent alternative to Mr. Black? I don't think it's possible to get it locally where I am
Is there a big difference between the coffee liqueur you use and Tia Maria (wich I already have at home)?
Is the flavor profile of JM Rhum Agricole Blanc similar enough to the aged rhum for a substitution?
That apron is looking good there. I prefer the dark to the denim, for sure.
How interchangeable is coffee liqueur and the Van Gogh double espresso vodka?
Nicely done. Coffee, mint, and Rum? That is a great combo.
Sounds like Marius is an international man of mystery

Anything with cofffeeee and I’m in! 😂

I bought a copper swizzle stick from Steve. It has a little propeller at the bottom.

I see Malort back there... When are we getting a Malort cocktail?
@theeducatedbarly where can I get one of those glasses?
I want to see you make a Poipu Beach Boogie Board!
Nice

Yeah true but it has queens park swizzle presentation
Hmmm I wonder why this looks familiar?
:@) Couldn't find the mistake. It is a very good video.
Wow
Would recommend that exact rum in a Hemingway Daquiri🤙

Really it’s a matter of drinks style and how you want the drink to evolve/dilute...its a big subject tho not sure I can answer in a comment

The wood stick is called a Bois Lélé.
will do this one
I’m a simple man. I hear “oh yeah” and I hit like.
Hi.can i use dark rum in this cocktail?
Yeah absolutely
Why am I watching this at 5am?
Btw the swizzlestick looks like a chickens foot
Cannot wait to try this! Btw specs in the description need the mint leaves that go into the tin ;-)
whoops
Yep and the mint is meant to garnish not granish...
Is this a post Malort double shot video or is it from a different timeline?
separate instance :)
When you go to Raleigh you must go to The Haymaker its the best bar in town imo
Do you have somewhere recipe for that Orgeat syrup I guess it is homemade. Thanks cool video by the way as always.
here you go th-cam.com/video/seROlqrtptI/w-d-xo.html
Thanks 👍
Hi! Can you please do a screwdriver?
What kind of orgeat do you recommend? Last time I got some really shitty tasting stuff. This drink looks great.
I make my own usually. We’ve got a video on it. Search Barfly Orgeat
I randomly found a bottle labeled "orzata" in an Italian grocery store (in the US) that has been pretty good. No funky ingredients.

Tiki timeee
Did you get that Outer Banks Trip still or did Covid mess that up?
It’s coming up but we’re not going due to COVID

This drink intrigues me, but I have been betrayed by the combo of lime, mint, and coffee before.
Slappypoo in my crushypants at 5 am
That oh yeah sounded like it came from a high kool aid man
I can't imagine how much mint you go through
Both Marius and I maintain mint plants LOL
Gonna try it this weekend. By the way, I love that you kept the T silent in Orgeat 😊
Can you sub kalhua for Mr. Black? Or too sweet
Orgeat - Classic Daiquiri Spec???
No....2, 1, 3/4 is the classic daiquiri spec....
So it was lime after all... :D
Not too sweet, genius combo. But for my taste too much lime, too less coffee. :P

Why did you delete that video like a week ago?
To reupload it, so you can ask. Itsn't that kind?
There was a mistake in it I couldn’t live with :)
@@TheEducatedBarfly Okay then, have a good day. :)
@@TheEducatedBarfly We need more licor 43 cocktails.
"im gonna be able to drink there this summer" that didn't age well
No it did not....
Drnxmyth...👍
Vieux is pronounced like vjø. It's difficult to write the phonetics with the English alphabet
sorry, but i refuse to call anything to with eating or drinking a "dirty dump" XD
dizzygunner LOL
Woah there! A re-upload? I'm unsubbing. Unforgivable.
:^)
Seriously though why tf?
Had to fix a few issues with the video
downvoted at "vieux", did not regret my choice at "slabby poo"
That’s SLAPPY poo not Slabby poo
