    When you think about how many different flavour compounds coffee can have and how much the taste of coffee can vary depending on how it's sourced, roasted and prepared it makes perfect sense that coffee pairs so well with so many different types of drinks.
    The java float reminds me of a riff on the painkiller I made a few weeks ago with a generous shot of coffee liqueur in it. It just works really well with pineapple, orange and rum.

    Coconut Cream, Creme de Coconut, Coconut Syrup, it's all a mystery to me. I'd love a video where you clear up the coconut landscape and any ways to sub between them.

    • @whereisarvedpi
      @whereisarvedpi 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Coconut cream = coconut extract/ fibre & water. Cream of coconut = coconut cream + sugar (and a pinch of salt). Coconut milk = thinner coconut cream; liquid extracted from grated coconut pulp. Coconut syrup = coconut milk + sugar
      So basically coconut cream & coconut milk = natural products from coconut; cream of coconut & coconut syrup = just add some sugar (and a pinch of salt)

    • @spuppy852
      @spuppy852 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yup and until then, he needs to make it clear in the videos and recipe... In this case he's using Liquid Alchemist brand coconut syrup.
      I think most of the confusion is caused by the Coco Lopez brand, which is the most famous brand and specified in certain recipes, for calling their coconut syrup "Cream of Coconut". It caused everyone to call it variations of that brand, including coconut cream like he's doing here. This is confusing, because coconut cream something totally different (this is a high fat version of coconut milk, which is made by soaking mature coconut flesh in water and pressing it out). It's basically what coconut syrup is made with (plus sugar).
      It would be best if bartenders just settled on "coconut syrup" once and for all, because that's what it is. It's coconut cream mixed with sugar, which makes is coconut syrup. 🥥🤷‍♂️

    • @spuppy852
      @spuppy852 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@whereisarvedpi Yup pretty much. To put it more clearly:
      Coconut milk = mature coconut flesh soaked in water, and pressed out
      Coconut cream = usually a higher fat version of coconut milk (check the labels this varies)
      Coconut syrup = coconut milk or cream mixed with sugar (and sometimes stabilizers and salt)
      Cream of Coconut = a famous brand of coconut syrup by Coco Lopez
      Coconut Water = juice from a young coconut. This isn't very sweet or fatty.

    Recommendations for similar coffee Liqueur that is similar to Mr Black? I find Kahlua too sweet and Mr Black is not available in my area.

    • @whereisarvedpi
      @whereisarvedpi 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you want to buy something that tastes better than kahlua, I'd suggest to try Tia Maria or even Patron XO Coffee for something a little different. They're both not as good as Mr Black tho, so my actual recommendation would be to just make your own coffee liquor. Buy a clean vodka (Grey Goose if you want it super smooth, Absolut as the best budget option), brew some coffee you enjoy, and mix it with some sugar. That way, you'll get the freshest coffee liquor you can get and you yourself can decide how you want it to taste. You can even make it with espresso for a super intense, higher proof coffee liquor.

    • @lxxwj
      @lxxwj 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@whereisarvedpi thats a great idea, although i would like to recommend chopin over grey goose and luksusowa over absolut. goose tastes very additive heavy to me, almost like simple syrup was added - it just has that texture to it. i havent tested it with a hydrometer though so i cant be certain. luksusowa is just a great vodka, a lot cheaper than absolut while still being on par.

    • @whereisarvedpi
      @whereisarvedpi 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lxxwj Chopin (at least the wheat one) is very neat, but not as commonly available. Never tasted luksusowa, but my two recommendations were mostly based on their availability pretty much everywhere. And although I do agree with you, I do think that it does not matter too much, what Vodka you put inside your coffee liquor, as long as it is passable. I'd be much more worried about the coffee, the brewing method and the ratio of coffee, Vodka and sugar. That said: just choose whatever you like, it'll probably turn out great :)

    Always get confused with coconut cream and cream of coconut

      In cooking with coconut "Cream of" usually means added sugar. "Cream" usually means creamy like milkfat without or with very little added sugar. With cocktails many people and recipes use both terms to mean "coconut with sugar".

    • @TheEducatedBarfly
      @TheEducatedBarfly  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The first is a riff of a Jungle Bird Cocktail, the second is a Piña Colada Riff and the third is a riff off of a tiki cocktail called a Navy Grog

    Is coconut cream an error? You're using Coconut Syrup and most cocktails call for Cream of Coconut, I feel like coconut cream wouldn't mix thoroughly on a whip shake.

    • @TheEducatedBarfly
      @TheEducatedBarfly  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Coconut Syrup and coconut cream and cream of coconut are essentially the same exact thing. Literally full fat Coconut milk with the addition of sugar.
