Her: Did you see the Strawberry Daiquiri recipe video I linked you the other day?
    Him: Yeah
Her: Great, what did they say in the video?
Him: They said guilty pleasures may seem like it originates within oneself but that idea entails back to the concern other people might scornfully look at you for doing the guilty pleasure except that by doing it privately you already negate the need to be concerned about other people concerning about you, in other words the third-hand embarrassment blossoms from you becoming your own third-person crowd, so you yourself become the "they" whom would scorn "your" version of you.
Her: ..... _(disgusted, confused frown)_ ...hUH??

I really like the addition of the semi-whipped cream on top. I'll have to try that. But I just use 5+ oz frozen strawberries, either fresh or bagged, no puree and no ice, along with 2 oz. light rum, 1 oz. lime juice, and 1 oz. simple. It's not that sweet, but I like it. Frozen watermelon works pretty well too.
I don't generally believe in the concept of guilty pleasures, though I imagine there are people who think they enjoy things that are harmful to themselves or others.
My first cocktail ever was a frozen strawberry daiquiri, at a restaurant in New Orleans, when I was 16. No carding back then. I remember it being very intensely strawberry.

i define a guilty pleasure as something you can't defend or argue in favor for. this definition helps you evaluate your taste, and could give you a better understanding of your passions.

Hello from Canada. I just finished making this drink for some of my people and it's a massive hit; they are really surprised when it comes out of the kitchen and it doesn't look like that "stuff" they see at the all-inclusive resort bar. I finally don't hate a drink that comes out of a blender. Thanks EB!

I see it more as "I judge this drink/show for whatever reason, therefore the people I associate would as well". It's not so much you judge it BECAUSE of those people, but more that you think along the same lines. Surely there's influence going both ways though.

    • @TheEducatedBarfly
      @TheEducatedBarfly  4 ปีที่แล้ว +23

So so so many. Maybe we’ll get a video going on this subject I was literally talking to Marius about it last night. The thing is I have learned to check my attitude on this a whole lot. People like what they like and drink what they drink and if I have a problem with that it’s on me. As a bartender people order things I think are terrible all the time and there’s two ways you can navigate that situation, you can roll your eyes and be a douche or you can step up to the challenge and try to reconstruct that drink into something better and retaining the spirit and style of the drink!

Depends on what style of drinks you’re doing with it but my favorite ovenproof Rums to have on hand would be Lemon Hart 151 which is Demerara Rum, Wray And Nephew which comes in at 126 proof Jamaican Rum and Plantation OFTD which comes in at 138 Proof

That is not at all how I make a strawberry daiquiri. And I am not switching to Leandro’s version😉 I use fresh strawberries and ice in the blender as well as syrup and fresh lime juice. Out of the strawberry season I will use whole frozen strawberries and no ice. My strawberry daiquiri has a very dark red color and a distinct taste of strawberry, but not that thick texture where you can almost create a little top in the glass.

Man! I was just about to google today how to make a puree. I presume I keep it in the fridge to sit though?

I'm sorry Leandro, but Marius is right... early socialization shows that since our youngest age we internalize the judgment of others and make them our own. Every time you juge yourself, whether it's because of a "guilty pleasure" or, on the contrary, because you're proud of yourself, external values (criteria that come from the world) are at stake. We wouldn't know how to juge ourselves if it weren't for those values that come from the social reality.

That strawberry puree should last months if you have enough sugar in it. But with less sugar, anything you don't plan on using in the few days should be frozen. www.eatbydate.com/other/condiments/how-long-does-jam-last-shelf-life-expiration-date/ this link explains Jams and Jellies which are equal parts strawberry and sugar.

My guilty pleasure is an Appletini. I get teased by my friends (mostly females) for ordering a "girly" drink, while they order beers. I've since discovered hard ciders which saves me from ridicule and gives that apple bite I enjoy.

Guilt comes from a mismatch of your actions and your internally derived values. Shame comes from a mismatch of your actions and society's expectations and norms. Leandro is describing Guilty Pleasures and Marius is describing Shameful Pleasures.

You probably will too! There’s no shame (or guilt) in enjoying delicious stuff, my man! I mean, I enjoy a cosmopolitan every now and then. Appletinis? Frikken delicious! I endorse anything that comes with a miniature umbrella.
