My first two teachers were from Taiwan. They taught us "做买卖“ for "do business" and "铺子“ for store. When I first moved to the Mainland, I was like, "商业?What's that?" Other people were so confused when I used the word 铺子. It took me a while to learn and switch over to 商店.
做买卖&铺子 are also in active use in mainland. i don't get your point. it seems you just need to enlarge your vocabulary and that's not difficult to achieve.
This was fun to watch! Although I've been learning mainland mandarin these past few years, I hope to visit Taiwan soon and talk with them and apply my knowledge :) I just hope they're nice to me and can understand at least some of my words 😅
Excellent for advanced students' listening practice! Thank you very much. Too often on TH-cam it is beginners' or lower intermediate Chinese. Thanks from Sydney, Australia
They are just the same languages but the accent of them is different. Just like British English and American English. Taiwanese also speak Hokkien. Hokkien is totally different from Mandarin. In China, it is thought as a dialect, but in fact it is a language. The relationship between Hokkien and Mandarin is like English and German. German is more difficult than English, because its grammar and vocabulary is more complex. Hokkien has more tones and the pronunciation is more complex than Mandarin, so Hokkien is more difficult than Mandarin.
dont exists ''taiwanese'' they are all chinese people they are all have the same traditions, languages, culture, the only difference is the ideology of GOVernment
Partly agree. Actually from linguistic perspective, many dialects in China should be considered as a sub-language, instead of a dialect, just like Hokkien. I guess that is why people from different provinces in China start to preserve their mother tongue now.
@@16yen But ethnically they are Chinese people. Malaysia and Singapore are not China either, but there are Malaysia Chinese and Singapore Chinese. Likewise there are Taiwan Chinese and Taiwan Indigenous people.
I learned Mandarin from a teacher from Beijing, but shortly after, I was exposed to TV shows from Taiwan. My Mandarin became a little mixed, and my Mandarin teacher would often tell me that I'm using a word from Taiwan.
Even people in Mainland China would have the same problem, cos we are watching Taiwanese TV shows too. It is just like American English and British English, even though we might mix them up, we can still talk to people. I guess it is more important to achieve the purpose of communication, instead of learning the so-called 'correct' language.
That was cool, waiting for the next video! (Interesting thing : I learn Mandarin and write simplified characters while learning in a Taiwanese school 😂)
It's like whether to learn British or American English, European or Latin American Spanish, or European or Québec French... I'd say learn and use the one you like, but be open-minded to the other for better communication.
Yes lol the difference in accent is damn huge, i was wondering when they would feature a speaker who could speak actual MAINLAND MANDARIN Chinese. I swear its hard as hell to find people on youtube who actually speak genuine unaccented putonghua. Everyone has some kind of accent lol.
I feel like Taiwanese sounds are a bit stronger and heavier based on this video. It's like strong black coffee (Taiwanese) vs lighter version (Mandarin) - this is just for the sake of comparison in terms of the sound, no offense.
It's funny how whenever Dunya mentions China, she makes a point to say, "mainland China." I mean, I understand that politically, some people might still hold on to the debate about the "two China" issue, but if that is still an issue, then why doesn't China just allow Taiwan to be independent already? Seriously, it's already 2024/2025... when will China stop harassing Taiwan?
Open mind time - stop being precious about democracy. democracies have become dependent on socialist capitalist states. We call the social capitalists in our own country 'patriots', even though they are leveraging outside our government. But both decoratic capitalism and Socialist capitalism point the finger when ever the leveraging is from outside. Point being, There is very little difference between types of states at the social capitalist level. Government let's them donate to who ever they want. China, America, Australia, probably anywhere.

Actually I think "做买卖" and "铺子“ are both easy for mainland Chinese to understand , especially in northern part of China
I think it depends on where you go, most of the exclusionary usage examples are quite well known by both groups of speakers
做买卖&铺子 are also in active use in mainland. i don't get your point. it seems you just need to enlarge your vocabulary and that's not difficult to achieve.
maybe it was because of your inaccurate pronunciation that confused the other people.
Never heard of the two words in actual use in Taiwan. I'm a Chinese teacher in Taiwan

其实潜意识在语言里很好区分,凡讲中国和台湾的,和凡讲中国大陆/大陆和台湾的,大家都懂差别,各自不揭穿或装糊涂罢了
确实,懂的都懂。但是,就像我们在视频开头所说的,我们希望可以来聊一聊这个话题,因为很多语言学习者很困惑,但是我们真地无意去触碰大家过于敏感的神经。😊
I love your voices!
I have my grammar and vocabulary in Chinese, so my Mandarin is perfect with myself. The main issue is I do the same thing in all languages.

There's no such a thing as "unaccented". You can look for less strong accents, though.
You may watch CCTV news. Most people without training have certain accent.
Accents also vary within china and taiwan, and also malaysia, and Singapore as well. So idk where you get unaccented putonghua from.
Your question is also our confuse, especially when we read someone comments on our hostess that they are not speaking Mandarin😅.
