It's the patriarchy that is backfiring there. China used to be a very patriarchal country before and women used to have little to no autonomy and decision-making over their own lives just like now in South Asia where I live...maybe women are doing these because of what happened in the past. Also, I don't think most women are materialistic even, although they do want to have a decent household where they can decently earn their livelihood and not get raised in poverty. Also, if men seek beautiful and slim women which is demanded from women, they need to look handsome, too, to build up the attraction. Hope it's clear.. also, According to statistics both men and women cheat almost equally and needless to say that's an unforgivable act.
OMG. All those gifts! I cannot come up with so many gifts I want. I don't want to clutter our house, either. I feel pressured just listening to what is expected of dating and marriage. My husband is a very giving person. But he buys gifts for Valentine's Day, birthday, wedding anniversary, and Christmas. That's more than enough.
I thing you all have heard the expression Butong de Guojia butong de wenhua. I believe that 1 child policy adopted by china favouring a male than female has taken its tool on the overall gender population. Its easier for a women to find a partner rather than men, hence all those demands required by then as well as their parents. No wonder the level of divorce in getting higher and birth rate declining and population getting older. Being materialist can be good but it comes with price tag. One can not exchange Love, sharing, togetherness and most importantly Compromise with so many unnecessary gifts. As always a wonderful topic to be shared. Many thanks Eileen.
The one-child policy does not favor sons over daughters, but rather favors sons over daughters in traditional thinking. This is reflected in many farming and civilized countries. Instead, the government advocates: "Both boys and girls are born the same."
Thanks for such a wonderful podcast. I hope you will consider putting the Chinese subtitles in the transcript section so that one can configure it throught the settings of the youtube video. I dont believe all women are materialistic. My mother's pay salary was higher than my father. She didnt ask for more from my dad. She wants love and attention. Please dont think all women are like that. Men need to do more research
Every time someone speaks of a very strong pattern there is always this person that comes up with the “ yeah but I know a case where ….” Who cares … it’s a pattern , of course there are exceptions…
We are talking about average. Your moms generation is very different that this generation. If your mom is 20 now and can go online to find men, how many more options will she have compared to before?
in Indonesia we also have caili (bride price) but we don't use this word, we use "uang susu" or "uang panaik". If I convert 200,000 yuan to IDR = IDR around 400 million. this amount is too big. I think here just around IDR 100 million or even below depend on the man, how much he can afford. because the money is given to the mother's of bride to say thanks already taking care the daughter. This is what I know.
I wanted to make donation but you don’t have “Thanks “ option? Went to PayPal but there was only one amount available.couldn’t figure out how to change that.?

I undersrood majority of what he said. I think most good Chinese couples have a household in such a way that man listens to everything the woman says and he gives her his whole paycheck.
That is because court always favours female side when it comes to divorce. A lot of girls see marriage as a short cut to get rich fast and can do that repeatedly. Shame! No wonder most homeless people are male.
I'm from New Zealand, and have a chinese gf, she may have been a little materialistic when I first met her, but she has since embraced kiwi mentality, which is that money, materials arent important. But she has explained to me an issue with chinese men, and has said she would really struggle to go out with a chinese guy now. The issue is that a lot of chinese guys are "diewei", which is a "know it all" in english. Actually since she has told me this I have noticed it in many of my asian male friends, its very important for them to appear as the one that knows everything, and being around someone like this can be exhausting.
第一位 diyiwei? Like having to be number one/first place? As to the substance, I'm a white male know-it-all, unfortunately, but I haven't noticed this in Asian male friends (of course, gender dynamics can make very different).
I think what you are referring to is 爹味, 爹 means father, and 味 comes from 味道, which can mean flavor or style. So some boyfriends in China are very fatherly in that they give a sense of security and care for all of the girlfriend's needs. But this also means that they might have a more chauvinistic or traditional point of view that girls need to be taken care of. (My boyfriend is sort of like this, but not so much that it is restricting.)
Let me guess, you live in Auckland? I’m a NZer too, been learning Mandarin for some time but I still can’t find a Chinese gf. Maybe I live in the wrong city 🙁
In a patriarchal culture where arranged marriages have been the norm for millennia, you are complaining about women being mercenary about marriage? Seems a given.
It's strange to me that people in a relationship share with others the details of their life together, it's so private to me. Where is love and intimacy in all of this?
Hey sister, thank you so much for making a video on men's side of the story just as women. We men also have a lot of issues and struggles in life. You are such a nice lady because you show both male and female sides of the story. I wish you success. China is the Best country in the world. And Chinese people are the smartest and the most innocent people in the world. May God Bless You sister.❤
The answer is simple.Don’t marry a city girl, go to the smaller towns and farm communities. The values of these women will be simple which makes for a better partner in life.❤🇨🇦
smalltown/farm girls that get sought after by higher salary foreign men are highly likely to use the man's resources to help their families and/or move out of the country, get a city job and sometimes take their whole families with them. subsequently they divorce them soon after. they are the ones who need money the most. the economy is in the city. you actually WANT to marry someone who can financially support themselves, crazy right? or do these men seek an inherent power imbalance? hmmm
I have some friends that the woman will also help to pay for the marriage expenses and house. Not all women are materialistic. Some of wives are the breadwinner of the family. Some of wives pay are higher than husbands. Btw, is a Christian families, that dont follow this sort of old-fashioned way😊
@notgivingyoumynamenope8077 Men also are materialistic. They like cars and other stuffs. They also like to have "fun" That's why, there is a saying for men "where got cat that don't eat fish"? Usually very rich men will go to see prostitutes, use kondoms, etc. Not take responsibility of their family. I'm not saying all men are like that
@@clownworld.notgivingmynamenope I have seen many single moms looked after their children. Many rich businessmen goes out for business trip and fooled around. Not taking responsibility to spend enough time with their family
It is sad to hear most Chinese girls are ridiculously materialistic, not much different from prostitutes. Wish Chinese boys protect their dignity, stand up, be rich and strong. Let the girls go stale😂
They have to say that because of sour grapes. How many more of these creepy unnatural videos are they going to put out pretending these women are desperate when there's a shortage. They're playing serious mind games ladies. Don't fall for it.

❤
The answer is simple.Don’t marry a city girl, go to the smaller towns and farm communities. The values of these women will be simple which makes for a better partner in life.❤🇨🇦
smalltown/farm girls that get sought after by higher salary foreign men are highly likely to use the man's resources to help their families and/or move out of the country, get a city job and sometimes take their whole families with them. subsequently they divorce them soon after. they are the ones who need money the most. the economy is in the city. you actually WANT to marry someone who can financially support themselves, crazy right? or do these men seek an inherent power imbalance? hmmm
Oh really? 😂
You just said the opposite.
NO LOUSY DEAL PLZ !!!! 😂😂😂🏴☠️🇨🇳
Hello, I asked a question in an email to you more than a week ago. I would like a reply.
The answer is we don't know.

Men dont want to get marriage is a reality all over the world
Omg 😢feeling sorry for Chinese guys
感赞安拉我是穆斯林,这所有的问题如果服从伊斯兰的政策根本不会存在的。
对了😂我不仅没把视频的速度慢些的,而且把速度给加快了,哈哈
Why this man speaking so slowly, is it on purpose to help learners understand his speech or by nature his speaking slow
That is the way he speaks. We do *NOT* ask any of our guest to speak slowly.
I have some friends that the woman will also help to pay for the marriage expenses and house. Not all women are materialistic. Some of wives are the breadwinner of the family. Some of wives pay are higher than husbands. Btw, is a Christian families, that dont follow this sort of old-fashioned way😊
In China it’s the man that brings the money and pays 90 percent of the time and most Chinese women are very materialistic.
thats the exception, not the rule. 90 percent are materialistic, of course a few arent, but the majority are
@notgivingyoumynamenope8077
Men also are materialistic. They like cars and other stuffs. They also like to have "fun"
That's why, there is a saying for men "where got cat that don't eat fish"? Usually very rich men will go to see prostitutes, use kondoms, etc. Not take responsibility of their family. I'm not saying all men are like that
@@clownworld.notgivingmynamenope
I have seen many single moms looked after their children. Many rich businessmen goes out for business trip and fooled around. Not taking responsibility to spend enough time with their family
It’s all abt money.
我发誓,这辈子都不会结婚。。。
It is sad to hear most Chinese girls are ridiculously materialistic, not much different from prostitutes. Wish Chinese boys protect their dignity, stand up, be rich and strong. Let the girls go stale😂
还是越南老婆厉害,生孩子,养孩子,所有的家务都是老婆负担
In Indonesia people say: more sons more blessings❤
Here is an important word for the young men: 带眼识人。😂
They have to say that because of sour grapes.
How many more of these creepy unnatural videos are they going to put out pretending these women are desperate when there's a shortage.
They're playing serious mind games ladies. Don't fall for it.
Baby machine
These types of videos are just going to make them act in more unattractive ways
Let's gay 😂😢😅
