Olson's descriptions of the rigid offensive ideology of the Seahawks--I am a lifelong fan--and then of Wilson's consistent personal commitment to excellence are outstanding. Pete is stuck in his 80/90’s football style. The game has changed and the league does it all for offense. You think if you got a guy like Russ and DK you’d just force feed him. A very underrated and good but aging DLineman high ceiling QB that is trending towards the floor, but I will say with actually good coaches he can be better than what Fangio and company “developed” him into.
Broncos got rid of the worst 2 things about the team last year. The HORRIBLE coach, and mediocre QB play and replaced them with a younger offensive minded coach and an historically elite QB.

Greg Olson getting hurt was low key a huge blow to hawks the year he was there. He was just starting to click and was becoming the 3rd down guy Russell would look to. The hawks tried higher pass to run ratios for a couple stretches when all the running backs were hurt but Carroll cannot stomach turnovers and 3 and outs so he would always drift back to his balanced philosophy. That’s what you get with Carroll for better or worse. His personality and will dominate the team. I love him and Schneider but they have flaws. They undervalue the solid blue collar dudes like max Unger, golden gate and Bradley mcdougal and love the flashy talent like jimmy graham, Percy harvin and Jamal adams. As a result they’ve subtracted from team chemistry for over priced pieces that don’t fit the system. They stopped playing young guys as much which was their hallmark when Carroll got there and they gambled on their first round picks ie McDowell, penny etc instead of trying to build an o line fortress around Wilson. I think the trade is a win for both sides. Wilson gets to see what he can do as the man and Carroll gets one last shot at creating a winning team by his blueprint.

No offense until the very end until we absolutely had to score points to win. I also felt bad for Bridgewater too because the coaching was horrendous and did the exact same to him even though I feel like Bridgewater is mediocre at best. Lock never proved to be much better but still, he had more arm ability than Teddy ever had. They never let Lock use it. They never coached him up or anything it seemed to me. But yeah. I understand Russell has wanted the Seahawks to open up their offense more. But watching him play in waldrons system, especially last season, the number of times he would not see wide-open receivers streaking across the field in short-to-intermediate passing routes, was unreal. Because of his tremendous athleticism, he never really had to learn how to play as a system quarterback and he never developed the skill for going through his read progressions. Now that he is no longer a mobile quarterback and a threat to run and pick up critical first downs on 3rd down, some of the flaws of his game such as this have really started to become exposed. Pete Carroll is also extremely flawed as a coach and I would like to see him leave Seattle. But Russell Wilson is anything but a godsend at this point in his career, especially when you consider how brutally tough it is to deal with he and his agent and that he will be looking for a 50 million dollar per year payday next year. So I'm glad to see him leave Seattle at this point in his career. He can go to Denver and be a prima donna, chew up all their salary cap space, but he's going to have a tough time criticizing coaches and players for any of his shortcomings going forward

But.....defensive players are cheaper and we still have a lot of money. Between DL, edge and Ps2's complimentary cornerback, free agency on its own fills two of those holes. This defense would probably have secured three more wins for Denver, had the entire top half of its linebacking corps not been injured off the table so early. People are going to clamor to play here and some of them are good players that want a ring. Not thinking Denver runs everyone over and wins the super bowl in Hackett and Wilson's first year, but second year and beyond, this team is gonna be meaner than shit on a stick.

And yes the o-line is better than people think as he pointed out - there really was not a big personnel issue, more an philosophical difference. You have Brown, Lewis, Jackson and Shell doing pretty well on o-line, with two great receivers and decent RBs and TEs. But the philosophy was always to just stay within a score until the 4th Q and then Wilson win on final drive. That hasn't been working any more. The offense was so non-creative that I've been able to call out the plays just looking at the personnel/formation, and players have mentioned that the opposing defenses have been doing the same thing. So was the issue Wilson, the OC, Pete, all of the above? He's a guy dedicated to preparation and winning, so without being in the locker room hard to know. Greg Olson nailed it - he prepared, they had personnel, but for some reason executed like they were JV. At that point, you have to make a change of some kind.

Seahawks brass loved having Russ, but they didn’t like Russ being unhappy.
Pete wanted to run it back this year; when he said the team had no intention of trading Russ they meant it.
The provident is, intentions can change when your QB us unhappy, you’re trending downwards, and teams come with good offers.
Pete was stupid for rejecting the Bears’ offer in 2021, which made the Broncos’ 2022 offer look a little weak. But that goes to show his judgment problem. He almost always gets things wrong.
Even when he drafted Russ, he had no idea that Russ was as good as he was. He thought Russ would be a career backup, if he even lasted in the league at all.
He blew Pete away. I’ve heard stories that Pete’s jaw stayed dropped during the entire 2012 training camp because Russ looked, acted and played like a 7th-year veteran.

If you were only getting 20 real pass attempts per game you would be reluctant to throw the ball away too, and you would want to take more deep shots! Russ got 20 real attempts per game, and the rest were always spent trying to catch up on the 4th quarter. If the Seahawks had held more 4th quarter leads Russ would have had even fewer pass attempts.
I remember in 2018 he only threw a ridiculously low 427 pass attempts, yet he still had 35 TDs and just 7 INT’s, with a 65.6% complete rate and a 111 passer rating on the season.
Russ has never had any room for error. If he throws the ball away, his stats suck and the Seahawks lose…A lot. Russ had to take shots!
Do you know that, controlling for pass attempts, his stats were nearly identical to those of 2018 MVP Mahomes?
Plus, Russ beat the Chiefs and squarely outplayed Mahomes head-to-head that year. Yet Mahomes got the MVP.

@@DeCurtaRican The short game and middle game was always available to Russ. He could never seem to the see the coverage or place the ball where it needed to be in those moments. While the Seahawks reluctant play would place him in difficult positions, Russ was also one that would try and force throws he never needed to in the first place. I always never liked the take that his height was an issue, but after years of watching him I think it truly limited his ability to see other players in the open. DK's is a perfect example of this, he was open so many times and Russ would instead try and hit the WR3 that was covered up. Russ has some amazing football ahead of him, but he is becoming more limited each year with his legs and vision I think it was time for the Seahawks to move on and not pay him that money needed to keep him happy.

As a broncos fan I see those players they traded as obsolete.
Fant isn't a difference maker. Albert O looks to have a lot more potential. Better route runner . Plus broncos have 4 receivers they need to get the ball to. Sutton jeudy Patrick and hamler so losing fant is no loss.
Shelby Harris for the hype he gets in Denver he really doesn't make an impact . Broncos were dead last In pass rush after trading Von.
    Lock. Enough said.
Then there's the draft pick that would have been used on a QB so really the broncos only gave up a 1st and two 2nds for a hall of fake QB who is still one of the best QB's in the league .
