There was no data on Russell Wilson to justify gambling on the size of his contract. They only have themselves to blame from a management perspective. This was always the likely outcome on paper. Why they invested so much, with so little justification, is beyond me.

Because they wanted to get the contract done before all the young guns upped the Market which did happen. That doesn't matter as much though, because unlike a QB's salary, the Head Coach's salary does not affect the cap. Wilson's insane salary is preventing the Broncos from hiring other good players, Payton's isn't. Additionally, the Broncos with Russell but without Payton were 5-12 last year. They're already 8-8, with the possibility of being 9-8, so clearly Payton was an upgrade at Head Coach over what they had. I thought they should've cut Wilson after last year, so I certainly don't regret them doing it now. It was a terrible trade that is going to hamper the Broncos for years to come.

Colin you should limit your takes on this because it’s showing you’re not being rational here. Rw signed an extension that the broncos agreed to then when Sean Peyton came along things started to unfold and change however it’s a fact that the broncos told Wilson change your contract or be inactive. Sean Peyton’s play calling and the outburst was clear he did not like or care for Wilson and it was very clear his days were number. The timeline that’s been released and confirmed shows this season was full of problematic issues that never even leaked until Wilson was publicly benched. I know Sean is your friend however it’s not what was done it was how it was done Sean Peyton knew who to play with because Michael Vick, Lamar Jackson, Donovan McCabb, Aaron rodgers and even a number of other qbs would have checked Peyton quick trust me he played on Wilson’s personality and approach. It’s common knowledge Wilson grew up in an affluent family in the dmv area and he is just a very unique guy yes his play has been shaky but honor the contract and then move on not play with someone money in the season. This was tacky and I won’t address the other obvious issues but I can’t see how the broncos or the fans justify how they handle this and if I was Russel I would leave on the first plane ✈️ out of town.

I just started watching cowherd this year and I thought it was good but now it's contradictory...now he's seeing flaws that he didn't see during the win streak? He's got as much credibility as Sean Payton right now some between zero and a rat's ass. How is it that these "smart" million dollar GMs don't see what Russ is. He's amazing at making magic happen. He's not a rhythm guy or a timing guy...never has been. Also, if Payton wants to bench Russ for performance then why not just let him rip on the field where it should then be obvious if he fails. When you run for 3 yards on 1st and 2nd down or call a screen then your offense is predictable. I felt Stidham had much more varied play calls and he was almost a disaster. It's probably hard to be a talking head as you have to be nice to guy's like Payton if you want them to talk to you. Other than Brees who has he been successful with? Go ahead look up the stats up Winston and Bridgewater...they have a couple of good games followed by lots of awfulness with much superior offensive weapons than the Broncos have. Good luck drafting the next Drew Brees.

If Russ was a better QB we would have been destroying teams during the win streak. The defense was getting TOs in great field position and Wilson was doing barely anything with it.
People need to stop with the TD/INT stat because that's all they go off of. No other offensive stats, time of possession, yards per drive, passing yards per play, etc. Wilson was average at best outside of a lucky scramble thow up to Sutton to make some miracle grab.
There is no sustaining the style of play Wilson needs to be able to help you win games.
      Period.

The other thing is as a professional athlete which I've known now for over 20 years is hold yourself accountable and if things aren't going well be authentic with that don't act like everything is fine when the mast on your boat is under water. I've followed you your whole TV career to when you worked with Michelle Beatle. And his endless god promotion thing. But most of all - he does not win, he did not elevate the Broncos at par with his cost. Hacket was an unqualified bust - but he also did not have much to work with in Russ. The biggest flop it seems to me, is George Paton. His expensive gambles were flops (Hacket, Wilson and Gregory). He was no upgrade to Elway as far as trades and drafts. And for those who have not yet really taken the time to listen - listen to Russ when he speaks. He absolutely says nothing of value, all platitudes and empty optimism.

A 40 million dollar QB has to be able to carry an average team because the salary cap doesn't allow you to have both. On the other hand, a 10 million dollar QB allows you to build a good team around him.

The end happened the spring of 2023 when the Broncos signed Mike McGlinchey to shore up right tackle. The only problem with that is that McGlinchey had been unceremoniously dumped by San Francisco because his pass protection is atrocious, and that's what Denver got. Denver STILL labors under the misperception that consistently poor pass protection is "good enough" for a really talented QB.

Hey Colin Sean isn’t so great. It’s not just that he only won the one SB with Brees all those years…it’s that he only made it to one SB too. With no Brady and Manning to have to get through

Yeah well if someone suddenly asked you to give up over 30 million at your job you wouldn't be to happy. Especially after they ask you in the locker room after a win . That's crazy . You call that professional . Kudos to Russell for even showing up in the building . I would have gave them the finger and took my money . Pretty much what car did . Make them release you so you go were you want with out the team negotiating his contract and getting a trade out of it . Make them release you keep your money and get paid again . The fact that Sean Payton stood up there and said him yelling at Russell wasn't personal yet it was shows you what a deceitful guy Sean is . This is the same guy who got suspended from the league for over a year paying off players to injure others . Crazy . Dam Crazy .

You guys are really on one because you think this man should take a pay cut for what? Sean Patton will not make this team better!

I listened for 1 minute. No friend of Sean Peyton is anyone I want to listen to. His sideline rant alone at Russ was unacceptable, and disgusting.

Funny how they will jump on the Russ bandwagon when he goes to another team and starts winning.
