    That Jack Reacher analogy is spot on Colin, I never thought about it that way. Tom Cruise spent so much time & effort in those films trying to convince us he could live up to to the role & trying to prove he was intimidating through expensive stunts and complex fight choreography etc... Alan Ritchson doesnt have to prove he's intimidating as Reacher (He's a mountain of a man). So he can spend more time actually exploring the character instead of wasting time & effort trying to prove he belongs. Josh Allen could take a series/a quarter/a game & intentionally stay in the pocket & work on his intermediate curl route timing if he wanted. A QB like Kyler doesnt have the luxury of not using ALL of their talent, ALL the time.

    I mean obviously keeping russ would have been preferred, but it was clear russ was wanting to leave so they trade him while they still can. Could they have gotten another 1st out of it? Yeah probably but they got the #9 pick which will probably end up a solid prospect.

This isn't the Pac-12! It's the NFC West of the National Football League. Colin Colts gave up essentially nothing to test drive Carson for 1 year. They gave up 20 spots in a draft essentially where you have 50/50 chance to draft a starter if that. Now they can start Sam Ellinger and get a QB next year where they will give up 3 firsts to take a swing.

      It’s better then drafting a qb and they are a bust. I liked the trade but hey it didn’t work out. They are moving on. You should do that if something not working. Wentz was great but he played like crap against New England(won because of Jonathon Taylor), raiders(Ty Hilton had the luckiest tdgrab ever) jags.

  • @daveh4914
    @daveh4914 2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    Wentz is an ordinary, middle of the road starter in the league. Colin can talk about TD to INT ratio all he wants, but the fact is his completion percentage is like 25th and all of the bad decisions and bad passes that maybe should have been picked off don't show up in the stat line. A lower talent but more consistent, better decision maker in that spot would win at least as many games as Wentz would have, and that is without considering who they could add with the extra cap room.
    The Colts took a chance. It sounded like a great fit at the time but it didn't work. They got out of it as clean as they could. They got a third and a conditional third that could be a second, and Washington took the whole salary. So the Colts have about 70 million in cap room. They could do a lot with 70 million.
    As far as the take on Irsay. Well the fact is Colin is wrong about him too. He's a flake and he has had personal issues, but when it comes to football he tries to get good football people in, he signs the big checks, and he stays out of their way. He doesn't typically make knee jerk decisions. In fact he held on to Grigson and Pagano too long and didn't ride them hard enough about their shortcomings.
    What the situation is, is this. Wentz isn't a franchise QB. He's talented but he is not that guy. Once you come to that conclusion, you might as well move on, unless your goal is to barely compete for the last playoff spot in the conference. The Colts are better off kicking the tires on someone else who might be a better fit, or in developing a young guy than they would be in staying in QB purgatory with Wentz.

Go after the only QB who's ever thrown 30 INT's in a season in Jameis? Go after Trubisky or Mariota, two guys who couldn't get a starting job anywhere last year and are average on their best days? Or go after one of the QB's in the worst QB draft since 2013? You can criticize Wentz for what he isn't all day long. But what are they going to do at QB now? They don't have the draft capitol to go after Kirk, Carr or Watson. I'm shocked they didn't give Wentz another year. Especially considering he had no great weapons to throw to and had just 1 good option in Pittman. Their WR/TE room was devoid of talent outside of Pittman.

You get essentially the same QB for less and get picks. Plus cap space. Agree Seattle butchered Russell. Never put enough around him. However It was time to move on. Roster isn't good enough. But should have got more in trade. If they get the picks right then it might not be as bad. But it's hard to find a second russell Wilson

Name another top QB that you'd see mouth "I can't go" for a game winning drive, the answer is none. Any other QB you'd see fighting to get back into the game, even if their ankles were broken, yet he happily benched himself.

    Wentz's career stats look good on paper. His TD/INT is 140/57 which compares favorably to the GOAT. Tom's stats through his first six years as a starter was 147/78. And yet, Wentz has one playoff start and no wins while Brady had three SB wins. There is some intangible that is missing in Wentz. I really thought Reich could channel 2017 Wentz but there must be something we don't know in Indy. Would love to see Wentz's season end exit interview.

    Russell isn’t good at throwing short passes over the middle and he has lost some of his mobility. Defenses know this. You can’t just throw deep balls especially if you can’t buy extra time with your legs like he used to. Top Rated defense, IMarshawn Lynch and Russells scrambling got them to Super Bowl.

    • @DeCurtaRican
      @DeCurtaRican 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Russ hasn't lost anything, and he can make any pass you ask him to. He had checked out on Pete Carroll, knew he was going to leave Seattle, and didn't want to over-exert himself to help Pete. He has been preserving himself, but he knows that if he's leaving he is auditioning for other teams. That's why he made sure to put up great numbers at the end. He hasn't lost anything, and he's going to come out tearing up the division and league next year. Dont be shocked if he leads Denver to 6-0 in the crowded AFC West.
      I'm also sick of hearing that bullsh*t about the LoB and Marshawn Lynch. There's absolutely no statistical proof or historical record suggesting that they had more influence on the team's success than Russ.
      In fact, the evidence suggests the opposite. What did the LoB ever win before Russ came along? They were 7-9 in back-to-back seasons. They didn't start winning until Russ came along and started cleaning up their messes in the latter halves of games. Furthermore, Russ was 11-5 on average with double-digit wins in all but one season, until 2020.
      The LoB and Marshawn Lynch without Russ? 7-9 average record.
      Russ without the LoB and Marshawn Lynch? 11-5 average record.
      There's also a reason Russ was the leader in game-winning drives for the first 8.5 years of his career. Russ had to keep the team in games when the LoB let down late in games, which was more often than you think. I watched every game, so I know. The LoB cost Russ a Super Bowl Appearance during his rookie year! Then they cost him the Super Bowl 49 win by giving up a 10-point 4th quarter lead to brady and the Pats!
      As you know, Russ brought them back in that game, too, and would have won it if not for a dumb play-call and horrible interior route running by Ricardo Lockette.
      The LoB got torched many times, and Russ bright the team back many times...in situations in which no other QB could have. I mean NO OTHER QB.

    You obviously are only looking at paper statistics for Wentz cause it's definitely not over 1 game. It was Wentz constantly missing wide open check downs to throw into triple coverage, it was about those 7 picks ALL coming on critical game deciding situations & his high fumble ratio from holding onto the ball instead of throwing it away, it was about his unwillingness to take constructive criticism & be coached, it was about the disconnect between him & the rest of the team. #1WR don't exist without good QBs throwing them the ball & theirs a reason Carson has never had 1 but don't take my word on it go watch the exact same thing happen in Washington & then tell us Wentz is good

Coach/management were on the hot seat and they didn't want to do his last season with Wentz because he assumed that would be guaranteed failure, they would only go with him if they found no takers. Trubisky and Mariota are able to do what Wentz did win/loss and may have untapped or surprise potential.

    Jim Irsay is definitely volatile but I’d like to know who in the Colts organization put the brakes on acquiring Brady or Stafford. According to reports, Brady was willing to go Indy and they didn’t want him. And Stafford supposedly wasn’t averse to going there. If it was Ballard and/or Reich who stopped those trades and I was Irsay, I’d be livid after seeing them win SBs. It’s all fine and dandy to listen to the “experts” unless they repeatedly get things wrong.
