Carbon Wheels for Trek, Specailized, Giant and Canyon. Carbon Wheels for Domane, Madone, Emoneda including SL and SLR options.
Really dig your channel John, it’s always exciting , informative & UPBEAT!!
Keep rollin on!
Thanks Raymond!! I appreciate the support and glad to hear you enjoy them!! Like to create a positive team aspect here, where we can learn, grow and laugh together. I’m excited for all the future content I have planned. Stay safe and keep on riding!
Congratulations on 1K ! I chose the Aeolus Pro 37's for my SL6. Compared them to the Zipp 303 and Bontrager won with the warranty and price point. Very happy, they're a dream come true for me. Ride on!
Those are great wheels Ed! Nice choice and nice set up.
hi! did your LBS had these on stock or did they order them? what was the lead time for PRO 37?
@@cesarivanramos9591 some did have them in stock. Have to search around a bit.
did you consider the Pro 3s? And, if so, what makde you decide to go with the 37s? Still enjoying them? I am debating between the Pro 3 and the Pro 37.
I did the same thing researching a wheel upgrade. Information overload just held me back from pulling the trigger. I settled on the Pro 3 based on the consultant's own experience with his Pro 5 set.
That information overload is a monster! 😂
Yo you deserve more subs for these super informative, intellectual advice and honest opinions that you give your viewers. All them safety calls and communication ya be doing is something new riders wouldn’t know. And you always come back to the topic if you’re over explaining or sharing your experience on a subject not pertaining to the topic. Very good videos and answers a lot of questions viewers may have.
Wow! I appreciate that a lot. I try to answer the questions that either I had, or have about a product.
Love this channel, one of the best out there. Keep feeding us jewels
Palmer!! Always good to here from you! Thanks bro!!
Maybe another video could be on group riding etiquette (stuff like communication and/or how to find groups). Could be a good video for new riders.
Will add that to the list. Good suggestion!
Congratulations on 1k!! Well deserved. I’m running Aeolus Pro 37 on my Emonda SL eTap
Thanks Manuel!! And wow, Great set up!!
I just upgraded my stock carbon Bontrager 35 ELITE on my Emonda to a the 37 pro. The difference is night and day between both wheels. The DT Swiss ratchet hub was the main draw for me. I'm smashing my personal records on the new wheels.
If you own a Trek. It's a waste of time and money to go buy something other than Bontrager. Bontrager is mastering affordability without sacrificing performance. They make top notch wheels.
Got RSL 37s with my SLR7 Domane. After 4K miles I love them. Light and durable. Run tubeless 32s.
Ok Charles! I like what you got going on there!! That’s an amazing setup! Also I like that you stuck with the 32’s, breaking away from the status quo.
Hey, thanks for this. Got a Domane SL6 Mk3 recently and it's so much heavier than the Domane 5.2 Mk1 (with Dura-Ace C24s) it replaced, I'm looking for options to lighten things up a bit. Not sure I can push quite the power you do at my age, but I'm also torn between the 37s and the Pro 5. This has really helped. I'm in the UK and never made it to the States in my 50 years, so a tour round NYC is also really enjoyable :)
I’m happy to hear that you enjoyed it. And wheels are a great option for making the bike lighter. 37s more for climbing, pro 5 more for flat speed.
@@johnmanuel7561 I think I'll probably go with the 37s - the Pro 5 still have a 19.5mm internal width whereas the 37s are 21.5, and I'm hoping to run 30s.
Man...thank you for your advice on upgrading. I have the Domane SL5 orange/gray model. I upgraded to the 37s.
Those are great wheels! An a great thing to upgrade and transform your Domane!
GCN did an experiment and found shallower wheels perform better than deeper wheels. Personally, I think 37's look better than 50's. It's just the right balance without standing out too much. The high-end Emonda's & Domane's all come with 37's. That tells you what you need to know.
That’s pretty cool. You are right the Emonda does have the 37 for weight and Domane uses it for the shallow aspects. The Madone however uses a 47 mm deep wheel on the SLR9. And I wanted more straight, flatline speed. But also the overall difference may all be a wash as you said GCN, did a video on it. Really, you can’t go wrong.
It depends on where you are mostly riding. When GCN did their report, the difference was only 3 seconds and they did it strictly with riding up a mountain. Living in the main cities, someone would benefit more from like a pro 51. Aero always trumps weight.
I own a Trek Domane SL5 on orange/grey and I ended up upgrading the wheels to the Roval C38. I know that it's a brand clash but at my area there we're no Bontrager Wheels available. I paired the wheel with Conti GP5000 32mm and it ride a lot better than the Bontrager R1 that the bike came with. I have also upgraded the cockpit of the bike to Bontrager XXX Stem and Handlebar for aesthetics and a Fizik Antares R1 saddle. Now I feel more the urge to ride the bike and enjoy.
Great video - helpful thoughts. New wheels....soon.
Congratulations on hitting 1,000 subscribers! I enjoy your views on rides and equipment. With new bike lead-times in the terms of months, Instead of buying a different bike, I am thinking of upgrading the wheels on my Bianchi Infinito. The choices are either the Dura-Ace or the Enve 3.4 AR. I run 28mm tires and I want to go tubeless. I think the Enve is pretty close to the same specs as the wheels you chose. It's a great day after a week of crappy weather, so I'm off to hit my first metric century ride of the season!
First let me say, let’s go!!! Knock that metric century out! Secondly I can’t thank y’all enough, this was all y’all being amazing and just shows how great this community is. Those wheels sound nice and can transform a bike. I like your idea of upgrading, since new bikes are extremely hard to find.
Like your review based on regular users' perspective. It makes me feel related when making decisions. I believe many of us regular riders can't tell major difference since they are all good wheel. By the end of the day, we should just probably follow our heart by taking appearance, riding habits into consideration.
Well done video. Thanks for sharing. Are the carbon wheels more comfortable than the stock alloy's?
Thanks for the info. I got the aura 5
Personally, I have two pairs of wheels. For winter (cheaper and wider tires) and for summer (more expensive and narrow tires). It has an advantage, if something goes wrong, I don't have to wait for new ones and I can ride my bike.
Nice plan!! I’m going to follow a similar path with the stick wheels.
Update: actually it's more than 6:30 into the video that you start to do the comparison of these wheels. You could make better use of people's time.
Nice!
Now i have the aeolus pro 3v’s on my checkpoint.
I have specific requirements because my checkpoint sl is my all road endurance bike, gravel bike and bike packing bike!
Actually planning to order a second set of 3v’s in may/june because swapping tubeless tires takes to much time, time i rather spend in other ways like riding.
The 3v’s are wider and no load “limit”
Ideal for me since i run 38c tires up to 45c
I like that set up a lot! And that’s the perfect use of tires, which compliments perfectly your riding style! I definitely hear you on swapping tubeless.
I just ordered the recently released Aeolus Pro 51s for my Emonda SL5. The Pro 51 is a better fit for you as well if you can return the Pro 5s. They have similar depth (51 vs 50mm), are significantly lighter, and have a better aero tire to rim match profile since the inner and outer rim dimensions are larger (23mm int, 31mm ext). Putting a tire that is wider than the external rim will undo much of the aero benefit you are paying for in the deeper rim. You could put 28s in the front and keep 32 in the rear. The 28c in the front will likely open to 30mm or so and come in smaller than the 31mm rim which won't jack up the aero benefit.
I like the way you think Luis! And you may look like you are able to predict the future when I release a video this weekend... 🤫 haha
Would you recommend the pro 51 over the pro 37? I live in Illinois with occasional hills but mostly flat, group rides. I have an emonda SL5 too.
@@dereknelson2756 i would go with the new Pro 51. The only advantage the 37s have is almost negligible (15g lighter for the set). If you are still running the original tires I’d recommend replacing them with GP5000s as well since those are much lighter and have much better rolling resistance as well. You’ll gain aero benefits with the Pro51 and better tire traction as well since they are wider and will provide more tire volume.
@@luiscolon921 I just put continental 5000s on. I love them. It’s a 2021 emonda with original inphinity wheels. Thanks for letting me know.
I love your channel always informative. I’ve been riding a long time and still learning new things. Your message is always so positive. What bikes do your riding partners have and how do they like them
Appreciate that Lamont! I love how positivity brings on more positivity. So I’m planting those seeds so it can come back to me. Chris (colorful shirt) rides a 2020 Giant Defy Advance 2 I believe. He loves it. It’s the giant equivalent to the Domane. In future videos, I will definitely show more of the other bikes that are out there with me. As you see, I’m learning as well with this TH-cam thing.
Keep on going! Next thing without you noticing, you will have over 10k followers 👏👏👏
Thanks Bro! I can’t even imagine! Shoot, I can’t even imagine being where I am. Lol I still don’t believe it. 😂
@@johnmanuel7561 you got a new one with this vid alone. Didn't even know Bontrager did that, and I guess I know what to do now :)
Nice rational. 👍🏻 I personally decided on the Aeolus xxx4 for my Émonda. ✌🏻
Congrats man. I also want some new wheels. But takes some time to scrape the money together
That’s for sure Mark!
Nice choice Salvá!!!
Thanks for the info, I want wheels some day but I'm hesitant because of the choices lol. Price, super windy here, not a climber but I want to be just some things crossing my mind 😂 I really like the ones you got they look amazing on your bike. It would be interesting to compare your strava times for the same segments between the stock and those new wheels to see the performance gains. Aloha 🤙
I Feel you on the price, these things are not cheap. I know the super deep have issues with wind. I’m looking forward to doing some of my local rides again. It raining all week when I was available to ride messed me up, but I am looking forward to going over the differences.
Hi I am new to cycling, one question. Why are wheels one of the most important upgrades for your bike? Will I notice a big difference between aluminum and carbon? Thank you for answering my question.
Great video. Curious, did you ever think about going with a pro 3 in the front and pro 5 in the back? I am having a hard time deciding between the two but that might be a happy medium? Still unsure.
Mate. Curious how you add those elevation grade and graph details in your video. Believe you have a bolt, is that info available during the ride as well?
Yes the info is available during the ride. They are uploaded from My Wahoo ELEMNT Bolt bike computer to my Mac computer. There i sync the data with the video using a software called Garmin Virb Edit.
Hi John! Thank you for all your amazing content! Will the 32s tires fit on the PRO37?
I was thinking about the same upgrade, How much does your bike weight now after new wheels?
With just the wheels I saved almost 1.5 lbs. they are a great investment.
Which cycling computer do you use in this video?
I ended up picking up some Pro 5's as wel for the same reasoning as I tend to ride on flat terrain with minimal climbing as well. This video helped make the decision. Also decided to go tubeless with R3 hardcase tires.
Great decision Sid!!
The title of your video is exactly what I was looking for. But, the first 2 minutes is not about the wheel comparison at all, and it's not till 4 minutes in that we start to hear anything about how these wheels stack up against each other. I'm sure your subscribers like to hear you talk about a lot of things, and you seem cool, but for people who just want the information the video is supposed to be about, think about getting into that right away. Then, if you want to talk about other stuff like your channel and riding in New York and stuff, you could do that at the end. Many people out there just want the info you've advertised the video for. Thanks, man.
Great suggestion and will keep that in mind for future videos. May even do a time stamp where I announce where the actual review begins. Appreciate the feedback Chris!
I would go for light/climbing wheels, primarily because I thrill to the feeling of accelerating on a really light bike. Secondarily because I do a lot of climbing.
Listening to your logical analyses is a joy. Also it is helpful. I thank you kindly.
Appreciate that Ichiro! I definitely enjoy bringing y’all along with my break downs.
Hey JM i have a pair of reynolds road bike tires.i had them since 2013 their carbon clinchers their lite and fast .i never once had too true them .u get free replacemnt .i also have reynolds mtb rims .reynolds are a great inexpensive rim.
What’s going on Alfonso. Great suggestion on the Reynolds!
Its ashame that bontrager just upgrade there wheel line. Those are better for wide tires. Had the same thing happening to me when the new aeolus xxx came out
I saw the new line up, they look nice, however that comes at a price for sure.
They are the same price. I also had order the old aeolus 5 and 7 and the day i picked them up the aeolus xxx came out. Those were better for 25 mm. But they still rock under my speed concept.
What's the sound difference 3V vs 37
Rim width
I kinda wanna get these because I have aeolus headphones lol
What tires?
R3 28mm’s tlr
Great video! I also have a Domane SL5 and have been suffering from information overload on what wheels to pick. I've finally made my mind up on the Pro 37, based on your video. I took a look at your Strava data and compared it to mine, and it looks like we are pretty similar, but my routes have a bit more climbing. Thanks for putting this video together!
Unrelated, I created a Strava group and a Subreddit for Domane owners, feel free to look us up! www.strava.com/clubs/domanecrew
That’s awesome Mike. Those are some great wheels!! Also just joined the group!! Love to join in with my fellow Domane riders
