Most definitely, hands down LAFAYETTE CONEY wins for me and my family. Its nostalgic. For newcomers, it’s fun to try both, just for the experience of it. Sidenote: we always get the baklava after our Coney dog at Lafayette.

As a Detroiter who happens to live in Alabama, I miss miss miss so much about Detroit. Definitely Lafayette over American. Even using the restroom in the basement. And no pizza can compare with Buddy's. Yum
So, so many more options. The food in many cities is endless, but Detroit definitely has some of my favorite food in the country... if you don't mind heavy food. It's definitely not light California fare. This is a comfort food city. Some other places you've GOT to try on a return trip: Loui's Pizza. Better than buddies. The story I've heard is that the master chef who won the award for Buddy's in a competition wanted partnership at Buddy's but was refused, so he left and started his own place, using the same style, but with perfection. The antipasto salad dressing is hands down the most delicious I've tasted on any salad anywhere. I buy it by the gallon on my trips through Detroit and use it all year long. It's in the suburb city of Hazel Park, and looks frozen in time. La Dolce Vida off Woodward is an absolute delight. The Whitney in Midtown requires reservations, but is definitely going to be one of the best meals of your life. I can think of much, much more, but these are definitely some highlights you missed. 🙂 Oh, and as far as breakfast goes, even though it's a chain, I still think Original Pancake House has been serving up one of the best breakfasts in the USA for decades. I really like both their Grosse Pointe and Birmingham locations. Birmingham is a little newer/nicer, but more crowded and harder to get in. Avoid the Southfield location which feels like a diner.
I’m just loving this wonderful series on this resurgent American city. These restaurants and nightclubs look mouthwateringly good. Thank you for bringing them to us! I’m not sure if Marc is a breakfast burrito fiend as I am, but if there’s one on the menu, I’ll order it 💯 of the time. I guess it’s my Southern California taste buds. 🙌😘

Thank you Eileen and Marc for another wonderful culinary journey. I am so impressed how many great places in Detroit which are worth visiting and dinning. My favorite was the Pao, not only the menu but the interior design is amazing. Definitely I will also visit a candy bar, try Bloody Mary devil’s eggs and appetizers or salads from all restaurants, of course I won’t forgot drink a Liquid Sunshine 😉😉😉but the time will stop for me at the Warda Patysserie, and definitely not only one sweet tooth will be satisfied lol. Big and warm hugs from me to you and I am waiting for next adventure ❤
I love your Detroit hit list, Ewa! I love that they left the old theatre at PAO instead of ripping out all the old features. Detroit is so good at that. I love that my dad calls orange juice Liquid Sunshine. .such a cheerful name. 🌞 Iggy's Eggies is awesome and I can definitely see why it's so popular with locals. A girl we met in line was really excited we were there and told us it's her favourite spot (she was bringing her boyfriend for the first time too haha). We're working on our next videos now! Hugs back 🤗❤️

Hi! That's wonderful! Welcome to our channel 😊 We've made over 350 videos (hard to believe that as I type it...!) and have lots more on the way. Are you from Detroit? I'm sure you can tell we love it from our videos there.
That's cool you remember the theatre in former days. I'm curious if you've been back to see PAO and if you recognize the parts that are left or not. We loved Buddy's and I can imagine how busy it must be when there's a Tigers game on.
An amazing selection, thanks for sharing this great tour! Everywhere looks great, but would be most interested in visiting Baobab. So many interesting and unusual flavors and ingredients in African cuisine and such places are hard to find in many North American and European countries.
Hey Shaun! So happy to see your comment! Totally agree about Baobab Fare. It's amazing in so many ways. Delicious food and absolutely wonderful owners. I already can't wait to go back another time.
My gosh, you can't go wrong here! Even if one doesn't care for most cheeses or spicy stuff (ahem, like me lol), there is soooo much to tempt the taste buds. I'd even try some of those drinks. ( I'm a weakling when it comes to alcohol too). Wow I cannot get over the size of that chandelier in the Candy Bar!! Are you kidding me! This series has been fanastic guys!
Thanks, Scott! We've loved making these Detroit videos and it's been fun getting feedback and adding MORE places to a list of spots we want to check out another time. The chandelier at Candy Bar is huge and really anchors the whole space. I also love the giant disco ball which apparently used to be in a nearby nightclub at some point. They've done an incredible job with the entire building and I love that they left a portion of the ceiling untouched at the entrance to show what it was like when they took it over.
I’d add Takoi which is right across from Two James. And Sugar House (drinks, no food) is right down the street. Honorable mention to Johnny Noodle King.
Thanks for these suggestions! Are you from Detroit? We made another video about places to visit (here: bit.ly/detroittop10) and we always love suggestions for next time. :)
Pao, I saw Camelot there in 1968. Would also like Baobob. All great choices. You went to Buddys Pizza carryout. You missed going to the original Buddys Pizza.
Happy to go back for more Buddy's...! Mission accepted. 😉🍕 Highly recommend Baobab Fare. Definitely check it out. So cool that you went to Pao when it was a theatre. Do you recognize it at all in the video?
Great videos. I just discovered your channel. Love the Detroit ones (since I'm from Michigan!) and also the one in Hungary (since I'm Hungarian! ;-) Thank you!! You should do a bike ride on the Riverfront to Belle Isle. So awesome!!
Hi! Welcome to our channel! I'm so glad you found us and am happy you're enjoying our videos! We've made a lot of videos in Budapest and absolutely loved visiting there. The Christmas markets are wonderful! Thanks for suggestiong the Belle Isle bike ride - will add to my list for another time! 😊
In 2008-2010 I lived in the building next door to the Book Tower. The tower was mostly abandon then, and we lived in the then-called "Trolley Plaza", yes there used to be trolley tracks in that space in the middle of Washington Blvd. We never had any issues ourselves, but my wife saw 2 hobos stab each other at the small grocery next door. And a shootout when the Nightclub behind the 2 buildings kicked everyone out on a particular Saturday night. Interesting times...
You guys gotta come to Big League Brews in Taylor for well, all of our food is amazing and made in the tiniest kitchen you'd ever seen. But, particularly our Sunday Brunch! Oh! And we have sparklers (the same ones in the video too)
Only Buddy's though, called it Detroit Style pizza. Cottage Inn called it Sicilian Style around the same time. And Loui's in Hazel Park just called it 'deep dish.' Growing up in Detroit, you got a big, round pizza with a decent crust handle and pie shaped slices.
Cool! Nice to grow up with so many pizza options :) We made another video about places to visit in Detroit: bit.ly/detroittop10 Curious if you know these spots as a Detroiter.
Hi! Thanks for these suggestions! We've never been to Eastern Market and it's high on my list for next time we visit (including going back to some of these in our other video...bit.ly/detroittop10). My dad LOVES corned beef so what you're describing sounds right up his alley too. 😊
I really love these episodes. They are always filled with such yummy food. I was guessing your hashbrown-ended breakfast sandwich would fall apart once you bit into it. What were your's & Marc's favorite pizza toppings?
Hey Kevin! Yeah there are so many cool spots in Detroit. At Buddy's our favourite was the Detroiter because its the specialty and quite tasty. Detroit-style pizza is delish! I'd say typically we'd go for Hawaiian or one with feta, roasted red pepper, and sun dried tomatoes. What's your go to pizza order?
It's delicious! Are you from Detroit? We made another video about it here if you wanna check it out: bit.ly/detroittop10 So many awesome places to visit :)

There are soooo many more great restaurants you still missed in Detroit! Basan is my fav for an adventurous meal, Olin is delish, Mudgie’s is a great lunch soup and sandwich spot, IMA is the absolute best Pho anywhere- keep coming back to town for more!
Return, we have much more for you! Saffron De Twah, Mudgie's, Cliff Bells, Duly's Coney, Seldon Standard, Baker's Keyboard Lounge, Supino's, ALL OF DEARBORN....friends with few of the chefs of places you visited. Do pig roast with the chef at Apparatus room about once a year, including next month.
Thank you for all these recommendations! And so cool you know the chefs and do a pig roast. Sounds like fun. We also made a video about wonderful places to visit in Detroit? Have you seen it? bit.ly/detroittop10 Would love more of your suggestions for another time :)

I think you need to go back to Iggie’s and get the traditional Eggie instead of making your own odd concoction. Get a Eggie on a Brioche bun with bacon, aioli, some strawberry jam. Unreal. Plus those fricken french toast sticks! Also, that is a new Buddy’s location… go to the real deal one where the pans are actually 75 years old still in use!
Detroit is one of the few US Cities that still has some traditional Jewish Delis....Steves (In West Bloomfield) and Stage (also in West Bloomfield) are quite good with great deserts (7 Layer Cake!).
@@LIONSFAN-t1u that's great! We visited Cleveland for Marc's birthday once and had an amazing time. SUCH nice people. They found out it was his birthday and he got given everything from a chocolate milk to a vinyl in a record store. Great city.
Here's an idea, start your video in a nicer municipal setting, like a park (Detroit has many) instead of a dumpy parking lot next to WTF building you choose. I'm having a hard time convincing myself to come downtown. Think I'll just stay in Plymouth and Ann Arbor area.
Have you tried the Coneys at Duly's Place? I've seen them on T.V., but have not stopped in. I like both places on Lafayette. American is less claustrophobic.
Thanks for sharing this recommendation! A lot of people suggested we visit Belle Isle in warmer weather and said it's their favourite place in Detroit. I didn't realize there was a Belle Isle Pizza until now though. Do they Detroit-style as well?

Iggy's has the rudest people behind the window. The hamburger is disgusting and dry, and everything else is way overpriced for what it is. The Iggy's sandwich you at was about 18 dollars. so NOT worth it. If you're from Detroit you know Buddy's is disgusting. Nobody likes Buddies.
Oh dear! Sorry to hear you haven't enjoyed your experience there. My sandwich wasn't $18 so maybe you're thinking of something else? We've heard from a lot of Detroiters who love Buddy's but to each their own.

Hugs back 🤗❤️
Louie’s pizza in Hazel park is the best.
Thanks for the recommendation!
I loved the video. Everything looked so delicious. Thanks so much for sharing. Feeling quite hungry now. 😁 Looking forward to your next experience. Be safe. ❤️❤️❤️
Thank you, Ron! ❤️ I always get hungry editing our food videos too. 😆 We’re working on new videos so watch this space…
Wow foodie 😋 You know I was supposed to be there with yous, eating all that delicious food! I can't believe I'm missing out on! Thanks for sharing. Wish it were closer to me. I'd go today, and no way could I pick out one. I'd have to do them all too! 🥰❤ Cheers!
Hey Gina! haha after my own heart wanting to try every place 😂 Maybe you need to do a road trip to Detroit 😉 Hope you're having a great weekend so far! ❤️
I just discovered you Channel today. What a find, love it so far.
Hi! That's wonderful! Welcome to our channel 😊 We've made over 350 videos (hard to believe that as I type it...!) and have lots more on the way. Are you from Detroit? I'm sure you can tell we love it from our videos there.
My parents took me to the opening of "The Sound of Music" at the Michigan Theater. Buddy's is the Best Pizza no question.
Lafayette, best!
Thanks for your vote! That one is in the lead! Have you been to any of these other spots?
Everything looks so delicious! I’ll have to visit Detroit soon! I want everything haha! I want the pizza!!! Always love your videos ❤
Thanks! Buddy's is delicious and the location we went to is right downtown near Comerica Stadium where the Tigers play. Great pairing, methinks. 😉
Lafayette for sure. The guys there will make sculptures out of the silverware!
Oh man, we didn't see that! 😂 Are you from Detroit? We made another video about 10 amazing places to visit: bit.ly/detroittop10 :)
@@EileenAldis I was raised in the metro area but have moved away.
Did you include Traffic Jam? Thats a great one!!!!
Is that a restaurant?
@@EileenAldis Yes, sorry. It's a great one that's been there for a long time
@@tracyturner-browne4012 Thanks for the suggestion! Making a wish list for another time...
The Traffic Jam is closed. I think they had a fire and are still rebuilding.
@@richkroberts I'm sorry to hear that. Glad they're rebuilding.
Lafayette is best!
Thanks for your vote! 🌭
Thanks!
Hey Dennis! Thanks so much for this! We really appreciate your support ❤️
Lafayette for me, it’s that snap of the skin on the all beef dog but don’t forget the chili cheese fries!!!
Thanks for your vote! Didn't try the fries but good to know! 😮
Omg, Eileen! I gained weight just watching this! Fabulous video!❤️
hahah that's high praise! 😉 So many good places to eat in Detroit 💕
Oh! And we have sparklers (the same ones in the video too)
Ooh nice! Thanks for the suggestion! I love me some brunch...and, of course, who doesn't like sparklers?! 😁
You HAVE to try the London Chop House at some point. Classic steakhouse that’s been here since the 30’s.
Thanks for this suggestion! It's getting close to its 100th anniversary... 😯
You're an good tour guide 😉
Thank you! Are you from Detroit? We made another video about amazing places to visit: bit.ly/detroittop10 :)
I would add Zeff's Coney Island--in Eastern Market (get the Corned Beef Hash with two medium eggs in top!) Also Vicente's Cuban Restaurant.
Lafayette hands down!
Thanks for your vote! Do you know any of these other spots?
1:20 That looks good.

@@EileenAldis I'm from Windsor, Canada, so downtown Detroit is a 15-min drive from my house. I did see it, it's great (the other video). So many better Detroit style pizza places in Detroit then Buddies
Lafayette full stop.
You missed The Whitney. And The Ghost Bar on the third floor.
Loui's in Hazel Park is the best
There are soooo many more great restaurants you still missed in Detroit! Basan is my fav for an adventurous meal, Olin is delish, Mudgie’s is a great lunch soup and sandwich spot, IMA is the absolute best Pho anywhere- keep coming back to town for more!
We'll definitely need to come back! Keep the suggestions coming on this and our other video about places to go! 🙌

@@EileenAldis I've been to most of them. I don't taste much difference among any of the multitude of coney islands in the Detroit area.

@@EileenAldis No but I will definitely keep these in mind, I go to Detroit a decent amount (Big Lions fan!!...live in Cleveland).

Belle Isle Pizza is the best pizzeria in Detroit

Lafayette is a great coney if you want a dirty ass place that is constantly being cited by the health dept. American is so much nicer, quieter and cleaner.
Oh my haha! Everyone seems to have a very strong opinion about both places! Divisive... 🌭
If you break your neck, if you have nothing to eat, if your house is on fire, then you got a problem. Everything else is inconvenience.
