I own this and I love it. But let's be real here guys. Watches are personal. What you like may not suit me and vice versa. Get a watch that YOU enjoy regardless of brand, style, or cost. There are a lot of wonderful watches out there.
Totally right except for one point. Even if you want a Sub you shouldn't buy one at least in my eyes. The main reason is you shouldn't support bad behavior. The fact they don't make enough and you have to either wait at least a year or pay way too much money. I really want a Rolex but until they actually care about customers I will never buy one.
@@AlwaysBolttheBird I get what you're saying, as someone that's been waiting forever for a GMT-Master II Batgirl, I truly feel your pain. However, the reason Rolex watches hold their value so much better than other brands of similar quality and build (Omega, Breitling, etc.) is the limited supply. So although their methods hurt people looking to buy a Rolex, for those that already have one, their methods help them retain the value. So, I fully get what you're saying... but if I buy anything but what I want, I'm just going to want the Rolex again in 6 months to a year.
2Crassus Crassus have you ever tried to “wait” for a Rolex? In order to even get on a list you usually have to have bought from the jeweler before they will even let you on the list (I know that’s the keeper and not Rolex but just another hurdle to buy a watch) and then you wait three years for something that is just a watch. There is nothing so special about a Rolex that they can’t make more of them. If you think that Rolex doesn’t make more because they care then you are delusional. They make way less to make them seem more special than they are. If they made more and you could just go and buy one people would realize they are no more special than any other watch.
Matthew Russo so basically what you are saying is Rolex is gate keeping. If you already have one great if not we don’t care. I would argue that you shouldn’t buy a watch as an investment. It’s actually a pretty bad investment. You should buy a watch because you want one and want to even pass it down. I would also argue that Rolex watches don’t actually hold value but are so artificially inflated that are just more expensive because you can’t get one.
I bought a black SMP 300m last summer to commemorate one year with the company I work for, after changing my life completely around 180 degrees. It’s such a beautiful watch and when I look at it, I get so immersed in its beauty that I forget to look at the actual time 🤣. This watch has sentimental value to me and I will NEVER get rid of it! It’s literally the perfect watch for me.
Omega Seamaster for me all day long. Outstanding engineering at an excellent price point. Plus no ridiculous waiting lists. Thank you jenni for the great review.
@@omgwtfpwnd Omega isn’t the one that is overpriced…Rolex is. Omega has better technology in their watches with the METAS certification and is essentially amagnetic. You could buy a Planet Ocean (or Speedmaster) AND SMP 300m for the price of a Submariner. In addition, their warranty and customer service is highly rated. I own a GMT “Batman” and it took almost 9 months to buy. Try buying one on the grey market…it’s almost double the retail price.
Water got into my first Omega Seamaster, not once, but twice! The culprit? The seal inside, I was told. Sold it and got Rolex Sub and then the Grand Seiko Diver SBGA031, and never looked back. Between the last two, hands down the Grand Seiko.
I just bought a brand new Seamaster 300M (in blue with a rubber strap) last week! I was shopping for a Breitling Superocean Heritage II, and the AD had her Omega case right next to the Breitlings. I looked over and saw the Seamaster. I put it on and was unexpectedly blown away! I bought it on the spot and absolutely LOVE it. I should say I already have 2 Rolexes (a 1984 GMT Master II "Sophia Loren" and a 1949 dress watch) so I don't have any of that brand envy. I've owned Subs in the past, and I really think the Seamaster is a more beautiful and satisfying watch for my collection.
One point that I see everyone failing to raise in those comparisons is "how modern" the watch looks. If you buy a watch to complete your image and so you care about its design & style (which is more common than caring about its tech specs), the Seamaster divers is a watch that screams 21th century loudly... it has fine details, shiny materials, perfect engravings... it's rich and detailed. It's MODERN. The Sub is awesome, but it clearly shows its design years, it's "classic". If they were cars, the submariner would be the Ferrari 512bb, the Seamaster would be the F12 berlinetta. I think the choice between the sub and the 300m diver is mostly about the different image you want to project, not the tech specs (which I disagree with you: they are not on par, they are MUCH in favour of the Omega).
I agree with you that this Seamaster being modern and a Submariner being classic. In 20 years time, this Seamaster will be dated, while a Sub continues to be timeless. Just look at how dated a 1990s Seamaster is vs a submariner from that era, and their prices on used market strongly reflected that as well.
@@tonyfu2200 I agree with you, but perhaps not for the reason you think. what makes the sub design stand the time is actually the fact that rolex doesn't change it. The problem with omega is their lack of will to stick to a design and commit for decades to it. The current seamaster will be "old" because omega will release 10 new divers in the next 10 years, all different.
@@tonyfu2200 My brother has a Rolex Submariner from 1987 and looks like crap he agrees with me. The bracelets is stamped and feels like crap and the movement is nothing to brag about. A new Rolex Submariner will always be better than an old one. In my opinion.
The Seamaster is available to purchase. I got one, barely used, and still under the 5-year warranty for $4000.00. Perfect condition. It's not going to find its value go up as the Submariner has, and the PP Natilus, and the AP Royal Oak. It is going to hold value and with time depreciate a little but essentially it is not a watch to buy as an investment like Rolex and the others, but is a watch to WEAR and to be proud of! Thanks for a great review, and your reviews are always honest, which is why we love ya!
Hi Jenni, I believe that the SMP 300 is definitely better than the Sub due to the fact it is readily available in the boutique and also a lot cheaper and you can get a discount. I have the blue dial with rubber strap as my daily beater and with the ceramic bezel, dial design and antimagnetic movement, it beats the s Sub hands down as I own the Kermit and made the comparison myself. I know the Sub model that I have is pre-ceramic however comparing both watches with the pricing, definitely Omega SMP300 kills the Submariner.
No wonder the sub cannot be found in ADs, they were all killed :) Rolex's Superlative is +2/-2, they don't do the regular COSC which is +6/-4. I personally think the blue and the grey dials to be the most interesting. If you are not crazy about the Rolex hype, this Omega is a better buy.
It’s been the hottest day of the year here in the UK today and I’ve been wearing my ceramic blue Seamaster outdoors. It’s been the first time I’ve really noticed how the shade of blue changes in the sunlight. It’s stunning.
The bracelet has always let the Seamaster down in my opinion. That said, I have both the Rolex and the Seamaster (40mm) and Omega gets much more wrist time. If Omega would improve the bracelet and make this model in a 39 or 40, they world have both a Sub and Black Bay 58 killer. Love the videos.!!!!
yes - the bracelet absolutely sucks. They need to give it an oyster bracelet with a decent taper. The movement is oustanding so just need to get that bracelet sorted.
Omega is definitely doing some good stuff lately. I wouldn’t really say the bracelet is inferior to the Submariner. It’s quite nice actually. Maybe the micro adjustment is not as intuitive as the Rolex, but the build quality is definitely there.
You need to see this dial in real life to appreciate how beautiful it is. Just got mine, have always wanted a Seamaster (due to bond connection), went to buy the blue and saw this white and fell in love with it. ❤️ I call mine "the great white" 🦈
I've now seen a number of your presentations. So I hope that you don't mind me saying that you're just the right balance of seriousness and cheerfulness. And also, thanks for the excellent review of one of my favorite watches.
Hi Everyone !!! Great show Jenni !! I personally owned a Rolex DeepSea James Cameron and a Rolex Explorer II Polar 42mm, also owned an Omega Planet Ocean Michael Phelps 45.5 and a Omega Planet Ocean GMT 43.5 mm and this my firs Omega a very special Watch the Omega Seamaster blue dial I purchased in 1995 inspired in the James Bond movie Golden Eye, love that watch this watch was the beginning of my next passion Watches can’t thanks enough Omega, I decide to passed to my son, now with this new Seamaster 300 am in love 😍 again with this model specially with the this new dial and bezel make this watch a stunning piece the and let me tell you something Jenni you pick the perfect Seamaster white dial rubber strap stunning watch, am going to be honest the Seamaster is a better Watch for the money 💰 you can’t go wrong with the Seamaster superb quality, in house movement, 5 years Warranty definitely a bargain if you compare with the Rolex Submariner take care guys Bruce. Very nice review, thanks. I have a 2000’s 16610 and a Seamaster PO with the 2500 movement, both massively different watches and I would never choose one over the other, I wear them on different days and for different occasions so I love them both.
I'm in that position now, have a black SMP 300 but been lusting after the polar dial. Do you think I should make the jump? I'm getting a good deal with 216570 at $9800
I have a 20 year old Seamaster Chrono. It’s as good today, as the day it came out of the box! I’m not sure I’d ever own a Rolex. Love the videos. Nice job.
I personally will always choose Omega over Rolex. I own the Omega Seamaster Professional 225450. I feel Omega is much more committed to creating timepieces rather than business investments. When I see someone wearing an Omega, I know he is much more interested in the watch and not how much profit he would make when he'd want to sell it.
As much as I would like to think that those who wear an Omega are sour grapes, I also believe that it’s not always the case. The same goes for those who wear a Rolex, there are those who into watches just like other watch enthusiasts.
Because of your first video and you Jenni, i have purchased this Omega Seamaster 300m with black dial and black rubber strap. First time i trust a stranger, first time i am satisfied with a stranger. What. A. Timepiece. Thanks so much for your input and great taste.
I have just let go of my Omega Seamaster after 15 years without any problems not even a service needed absolutely flawless, so I have replaced it with another (updated version) & just to say I could have had a Rolex deep sea James Cameron tho a beautiful timepiece just unnecessary for my needs..I always say buy the watch you like not what everyone else likes!
Jenni, you mentioned the rotor inside the Seamaster as being loud. I would love for you to tackle the new 3235 movement by Rolex as those are cement mixers in the back!
@Jason Holt Wouldn't the fact that one case back is crystal and the other steel make a difference in rotor sound? My Seamster is definitely not loud but not completely silent either. But unless you bring the watch to your ear, you will not hear it.
@Mark Michael Watch clockbait's video on the Batman. It's due to the ceramic ball bearings on the rotor and it is noticeable. I have both right in front of me. No comparison.
I'm in the same boat with regards to the planet Ocean with white dial and orange bezel. That's 43.5mm which is utter lunacy, they do a PO in 39.5mm but not the white and orange colours. It they release it I'll be ordering immediately.
I've got the 36mm and you don't notice the 2mm difference at all. The lug to lug is large enough that it doesn't look bulky or overly small. Might want to check that one out!
Armando Sturzenegger Yes. Rolex introduced the Tudor name in 1926, and for many years it was a lower price model using the same Rolex oyster case, but fitted with ETA movements. As such they were very popular with the military, including the US Navy Seals. They started winding down production around 2000, but in 2009 they were reintroduced, probably to counter the Omega range.
@@galatians22122 yup, he only wishes he could, after waiting for a year to hear from his AD, get the privilege of spending 50%-60% more money for an inferior product so he can have the name Rolex stamped to his wrist.
Just received mine. My first ever luxury watch. Saved for years and years so this means a lot to me. Got it on a orange strap at the moment and looks great.
I purchased the Blue variant of this, I highly recommend it to everyone considering this watch because you essentially get 3 different dial colors depending on the lighting situation. Daylight gives you a bright ocean blue, indoor lighting gives you vibrant navy, and low light situations give you a dark navy/ black dial look. Hope my input gives some food for thought!
Oliver Truby how long you had it and does it feel as good as it looks? It’s the one omega that just keeps calling me, I’ve had few vintage omega’s but not new models. I’ve pulled trigger on 4 tudors in a year and just held a p01. That bond edition looks sublime hope you enjoy it.
Andrew Jenkins picked it up on Saturday, not usually a fan of rubber straps but it works so well! Came with the bracelet too which is comfy. I have a black bay and an Explorer and haven’t taken the Seamaster off yet! Huge fan.
I might have to pick one up just for nostalgia’s sake. My uncle was the sound producer for James Bond from Dr. No through Octopussy and was close personal friends with Sean Connery. That would be a fun talking point at family reunions!
I love the design (except for the new helium escape valve) and the colors. But it's way too big compared to the sub and previous seamaster models, too bulky. So, I'd prefer a previous generation seamaster. It would probably look great on a rubber strap as well.
I used to hate them as well but the more I saw these watches in the metal and on people's wrists, the whole image of the watch just "makes sense". I don't love the escape valve, I think Rolex & Tudor's 9 o' clock EV is much more good looking (because you can't really see it, lol). But it just works so well anyway. It grew on me.
In 2004 I bought my first luxury watch, it’s was a Omega Seamaster blue dial and stell bracelet, the James Bond model. Love that watch and I’ll never sell it. This version is an upgrade, I like it
One suggestion: when comparing two brands it could be useful to mention that Omega was founded in 1848 in Switzerland whereas Rolex was founded in 1908 (1905 London) via partnership with a swiss company in Bienne called Aegler. I find this relevant for those who truly seek Swiss watches, in my humble opinion Rolex is great, I also love it, I will add to my collection, but they are not truly Swiss.
Personally I think that despite the two watches being compared a hell of a lot that they actually fill two different markets. The seamaster more commonly will act as a first foray into luxury watches as it is such a value packed watch with unique design detailing and a heritage to match. The fact you cannot get a steel sports model when you walk into an AD means the equivalent sub just cant compete with the seamaster unless you are willing to drop double the retail value of the seamaster on the watch which many seamaster buyers are not looking at doing... Either way you make great points suggesting the strength of this watch as it certainly is a great watch but a submariner buyer would most likely not consider buying a seamaster as a replacement rather they would buy it and then sell it while they are on the waitlist for the subs. Anyway great video Jenni! Love the production quality as always!
I don’t really think it’s a “first foray” watch, with an MSRP of $5,200, or even with a discount. It used to be everyone’s first good watch 10 years ago, but the prices have gradually moved up every year such that it’s basically a fine luxury watch, period. A first foray watch today would be something like an Oris, Longines, or even Tudor Black Bay diver. This watch is a little too spendy to be a first foray watch anymore for many.
@@TruckeeDoggo I would agree with you mate, the only thing is you can't get a sub at retail so the secondary market is the only option. comparing apples to apples is only fair so when you look at their secondary market values I think the seamaster slips back into that bracket for many. I would agree with you though about the retail price having crept up in recent years and therefore making it less of a first luxury watch.
Hout & Co good point. Pre owned the new Seamaster can be obtained in the low 4K range U.S., but that was the price of the SMP brand new about seven years ago. Used SMPs could be had under 3k back then. The price increase has been significant, and watches like the Oris 65, Black Bay, etc., are more recent and significantly cheaper options. I hope the Seamaster maintains its status as a good first mechanical watch for many. It is much better watch than the cheaper options I mentioned
HokeyBear yes I would agree with you wholeheartedly. If it changed then sadly an iconic watch which means so much to so many will no longer be that for many people
I purchased my seamaster pro 600m approx in 2007 and have worn it so hard over the years. Including multiple scuba dive trips, uncountable salt water fishing, snorkeling and week long white water rafting trips. It still looks great and I had it looked at by a watch maker today who says it is within specifications but he would replace the seals due to the age. I have zero complaints about omega and would happily buy another. I was actually there looking at the seamaster 007, railmaster and the seamaster 300 heritage models.
Hoping that 2020 is the year the watch websites, forums, and TH-cam channels team up to take the legs out of this ridiculously overinflated Rolex market. There are just sooo many other great watches to discuss and review under $10k. Great channel, keep it up! :-)
Unfortunately people who can actually make the difference are celebrities and influencers. People don't like Rolex because of its craftsmanship, history, or reliability, they like it because it's the hype
@@sobeit712 Is that directed at me? You want to elaborate on your argument? How else do you believe the hype for Rolex will die down? How else do you think previous hypes have die down? Because people chasing hype found something else to focus on, and the hype for the previous product died down. If people believe and continue to believe that Rolex is the symbol of wealth and want to own that part of the product, this hype won't end. Happy to hear why you think that's a stupid argument.
@@rousseau327 No, the comment was directed at wingeren. As for the question on how to cure hype, that's the question of the century isn't it? Otherwise, what he was saying and further illustrated by you is using one distraction to overcome another obsession.
gotta say jenni, these videos are impressive! and i'm becoming a huge fan of the channel great reviews, great products and great video as well! 10/10! personally, i've been looking to get a seamaster with the grey and blue dial, i think it's a pretty balanced watch and can't wait to get one!
I would take the Omega every day of the week over any Rolex. My wife's Aqua Terra has the same 8800 movement and the rotor is completely unnoticeable. Maybe that's due to the case size (hers is 34mm and this one is 42mm).
The only thing that turns me off from the Seamaster is the case size. I love the aesthetic and contrast of the white dial and black bezel, but I would prefer the watch be 40 mm to compete with the Tudor Black Back 58. I have a feeling that Rolex will increase the case size on the Sub, but 41 mm is the comfortable limit of a watch on my 6.5" wrist. As a consequence, I'd rather get the Tudor despite me preferring ceramic bezels over aluminum or steel.
@@omg_stoppit but lug to lug is 49 is not to big, i have 6.1 6.2 inc wrist and im thinking in buy one, cus the case is 42 but it isn't too large and the shape and design it gives that impresion of a smaller watch instead of 42mm, it is awesome. Tudor of 42 mm it is huge, a monster
I own the seamasete and is amazing, you miss to mention co-axial for omega.... I think sub vs seamaster you choose witch you love most because you sed and I agree in terms of quality is the same...
Finally you made an Omega Seamaster review. I would also add this is the absolute best option for an entry luxurious watch... way better than a Rolex Oyster! The movement is hands down better than that of Rolex and so is the overall specs sheet.
Jenni, love your program. Based on your review the Omega is better technically and less expensive. Especially when it comes to the antimagnetic attributes of the Omega. I agree a Rolex is a Rolex but I believe branding should be left out of a straight comparison when it comes to tool watches. Keep up the great programming!
A very nice review with thoughtful commentary. For many the submariner is the preferred option but availability is a major problem. I have never considered this before since I once owned a seamaster GMT white dial with an ETA 2892 that i loved until it took a knock killing its timekeeping accuracy. This would be a great replacement.
This particular Seamaster is actually a great addition to my 124060 Submariner. I enjoy owning them both and wear them all the time - the rubber strap on the Seamaster makes it light, comfy and overall excellent for a casual daily wear without worrying about scratching the bracelet. My Sub however is the better watch in pretty much every way (except value for money) - looks, feel on the wrist (super well balanced and the bracelet is so smooth), higher power reserve, and better proportions - the new Sub is actually less than the advertised 41mm, it’s about 40.6mm which in my opinion is another plus for the Sub against the 42mm Seamaster.
No watch kills the Rolex Submariner every diver watch wants to kill the Submariner the Submariner is one of the most iconic watches in the world its iconic, timeless, classic, king of cool Steve Mcqueen wore one sells above retail price there's no Substitute when it comes to Rolex Submariner. If you want the next best thing its got to be the Omega Seamaster 300 42m blue dail
Omega can do a few things to make this Seamaster a more intriguing option than it already is. 1. Taper the bracelet. The watch is heavy. Physiologically heavy, visually heavy, and, well, heavy heavy. Tapering the bracelet down to 18mm, or even just 19mm would go a long way toward solving the issue. 2. Much discussed, but I'll say it again: get rid of the HEV. I don't mind it at all on my SMP, but if I take my finger and cover it up when I'm looking at the watch's profile, it undoubtedly looks more refined. 3.Get rid of the sapphire caseback. It should reduce the overall thickness of the watch (and the visual heaviness of it). And the Omega Hippocampus is perhaps more iconic than the movement is beautiful. And I that's saying a lot, because the 8800 is truly stunning to look at. But do not be so foolhardy to give in to the following: 1. Get rid of the 9 link bracelet. As much as some people don't like, it's too much part of the Omega Seamaster Pro design language. Plus it's comfortable on the wrist. 2. Go back to sword hands. See previous argument. I'm glad I found you channel Jenni. You obviously know you stuff.
I own both. Always a Rolex guy until two years ago. I have owned my Subbie since 1986 and I was going to retire it and buy a redline Seadweller. So I go to the AD and told that if I spent $5000 on other store purchases I would have the honor of being placed on a waiting list for a dweller. Another dealer called me on a Friday before closing and didn’t even give me a chance to call back. The watch was gone by noon the next day. That was after a three year wait. Screw them. I had the sub completely rebuilt with a new bracelet for 2k. After all that, I just wanted a new watch. Something different. So I walk into a store in Richmond and asked if they had a 300 M blue face and in ten minutes I had a beautiful new watch. I don’t give a shit what others think about it, and to be honest the Rolex doesn’t magically open up doors to some imagined status elevation. Most watch guys will know what you are wearing and will appreciate your taste, but you will never know it. So buy the watch for you. Be selfish in this way. Another thing, no watch is worth going into debt for. If you can’t stroke a check, pay off the credit card in one payment, or debit the cost of the watch, you don’t need to be buying any Rolex, Omega, Blanc Paine, or IWC.. Go to Walmart and buy a GShock. They are a great watch for the money and are more accurate than any of the automatics above and most watch guys will notice that you have bought a great watch for the money.
I got my Seamaster 300M in blue about three years ago. I did replace the standard clasp with the adjustable clasp for about $100 plus tax. This is my everyday watch. My watch is the previous model 41mm without the wave dial and with the date in the 3 o'clock position. I could not be happier with this watch, and I have a few grand extra in my bank account vs Rolex.
I saw the blue one at a dealer last week and fell in love. Keep in mind it's a "professional Diver's watch", so the rubber strap has to be constructed like that (wrapping around the diver's suit). The bracelet has a quick adjuster for that, like on the Submariner.
This is a great review. As the owner of both brands, the Omega Co-axial Master Chronometer movement is superior to the Rolex movement, but they are really two different watches. The Rolex is is likely to maintain its value better than the Omega; not because of substance, but because of perception. Both brands have driven each other to an industry-best 5 year warranty. I don't think you can go wrong with either brand, but I personally wouldn't buy a Rolex right now. The wait and/or prices are ridiculous.
Jenni, thanks so much for your review and other videos. I've just ordered a Seamaster 300m with the white dial after weighing up the alternatives that you mentioned. The Rolex just isn't for me and (for me) is a little less contemporary. I got one with a steel bracelet but ordered a black strap for a less formal alternative. Thanks again! Truly an everyday watch
I’m a bit late to the party here but after buying a white dial Seamaster 300m on the bracelet yesterday I noticed that on my watch only the minute hand is fitted with green lume, the hour hand glows in blue just like the indices. With the green glowing pip on the bezel this layout makes absolute sense. I’m wondering how many of these watches with two green lumed hands are out there and when Omega made the change. Some people might perhaps own a future collectible if there’s only a handful of these out and about… but we’re talking Omega here so the „handful” will probably be in the thousands.
Great quality video! I got both the Sub and the Seamaster Pro and even though they are competitors, you can hardly compare them. They are both amazing watches, but both in very different ways. Personally I disagree about the bracelet and actually find this the clearest aspect where the Omega is better. The Rolex bracelet looks better and more refined, but the Omega bracelet feels extremely well made and the Omega push system in the clasp works easier and more accurate than the Rolex glidelock. The only aspect where the Sub is clearly better is the bezel action. The Omega bezel is good, but the one on the Sub is just the best...
In this particular case, I think the cost-benefit analysis tilts the scale in Omega's favor. With the new SMP, there's no doubt in my mind you'll get a watch with better specs for less than half of the price of a new Sub. But I do prefer the previous version of the SMP as this new one is a little big for my taste (it's important to mention that the current version of the Sub wears more like a 41-42 than a 40 due in part to the larger lungs) The design of the Seamaster collection has changed a lot throughout the years with the current SMP turning almost 30. Just look at a mid 90's version, compare it to the new one, and you'll see what I mean. The Rolex Sub, on the other hand, hasn't changed much since its debut almost 70 years ago. Aside from the movement and minor "cosmetic tweaks", it is basically the same watch. Hence, its iconic status in the watch world. At the end of the day, both are incredibly pieces. Depending on your reasons, you'll pick one over the other, which to me suggests that it's unfair to make them compete directly with each other. Sure, they are divers but the perceived value of each is VERY different. Full disclosure: I own both. A current version of a Sub no-date & a previous version of the SMP (circa 2014). I love them both! (For different reasons 🤣)
What a difference from the homely faces on most watch websites !! Well, I am exaggerating, but not completely !! A pretty face, but also very knowledgable !! Please keep it up !!
Very nice review, as far as the rotors making loud noises go. It's the ceramic washers they are using now to reduce the friction and wear and tear. JLC uses them as well with some of their movements!
I’d love that! And hopefully they would use screw-down push buttons to adjust the 12 hour hand forwards and backwards. And if they really wanted to make it useful for professional travelers then have date displays for both the 12 hour hand and the 24 hour hand. I’d love to see them make the dial and bezel be different for the GMT variant too. How about forest green, burgundy red, and rusty orange colored dials and bezels for the GMT variant?
Watchme Those were very nice! Combining a GMT into a diving watch makes perfect sense to me. Many fellow pilots will enjoy a dive during a longer layover: and many serious divers will cross many time zones in pursuit of their passion. To me, a diving watch should always be a four-handed GMT.
@@DEE-mt9eq 36-38mm used to be the Classic size for wristwatches until the fat wrist sized people started crying b/c they looked too small, so watch companies started making these absurd cartoon sized wristwatches for these absurd cartoon looking rappers. Smfh.
I think I'm going to buy the new green one. This white one makes a strong case, but mostly because of how it wears on aftermarket straps. But I think the green will also wear well.
@@AlwaysBolttheBird i was able to get my sub for retail so it was a good deal for me. I bought the rolex, sold it a year later, bought the seamaster and still had the same amount of money left that i spent on the sub originally. I love my seamaster! ,
I just bought one of these today. My only regret was not getting the white dial, but I was in the store debating between the two for 30 minutes and they gave me a coin to flip I did best 2 out of three and each time it landed on black so I had to choose black.
I think the Submariner IS a nicer watch. However it is absolutely not worth almost DOUBLE a Seamaster Professional 300M. Either way I would rather buy the Seamaster over the Sub.
@Ron P nowhere near the same when you compare them together. I feel the Omega has a cheap plastic look. I will always be a fan of the Seamaster but this is too much of a blingy option for me
It is unlikely that anything will kill the Submariner, at least in the foreseeable future. If a person truly wants a Sub, then they will either overpay or wait; but do one of those two things, they will. Those wanting this watch will choose it. Bark and Jack's comparison between Tudor Pelagos and this watch is compelling. With prices being more comparable (at least here in Canada and purchased from an AD), I myself grapple with that problem.
Just purchased the Aqua Terra with a black dial! Also, I wanted to thank you for creating your channel. Great content so far, looking forward to the videos to come.
I am a watchmaker, the problem with the coaxial escapement lies in the fact that the ruby vanes have an annoying tendency to detach from their housing, causing larger operating errors or stopping the movement, after several years of operation.
Great review Jenni! It looks like a great watch, great value. But the Submariner isn't about quality vs price, it has become a legend in it's own right. People don't want a quality watch, they want a Rolex Submariner. There are sooooo many great watches out there that are even better than the Submariner for a lower price but they have one flaw: they're not Submariners.
I just bought this exact watch pre-owned, and absolutely love it. It came with the Omega presentation box and full set of papers (including dated international warranty card). However, the lume on mine is different than shown in this video (ref. 5:15 min.) - the lume on mine is a uniform color for the hands and hour indices (i.e., the same greenish color as the hands in the video, and has no blue coloring at all). Should I be concerned mine is a fake, or has Omega made changes to make the lume coloring uniform, since this video was published 2.5 years ago?
Just bought this brand new from an AD, the lume is all blue *except* for the bezel 60min dot and the minute hand but it's very subtle that they're different unless the lume is super charged.
Pelagos is a legit contender. Better than the Sub for sure, and personally I think it's better that the Seamaster 300. Pelagos has 500m water resistance, automatic gas escape valve, COSC certified in house movement with 70 hour reserve, and a titanium case and bracelet.
@@watchingwatches6357 i own both and everything about the 300 is better from the finish to the movement.the pelagos is a great watch and its tool-like but the 300 is just more classy and superior.
You are absolutely right ....if you want a Rolex, then you want a Rolex ....if u want functionality and value, then there are so many choices out their including GS, Tudor, Casio, Seiko, and many lovely micro brands. I personally love both watches, but for my 6 1/4 inch wrist, the Sea-master wears too big, even if lug to lug doesn’t over over hang. Just doesn’t look natural, more blingy, fashionable -- maybe wearing on top of a dive suit it will look great.
Always Bolt the Bird Well said
@@AlwaysBolttheBird I get what you're saying, as someone that's been waiting forever for a GMT-Master II Batgirl, I truly feel your pain.
When you said "THISS is the omega seamaster. Today I am going to review it...". My brain automatically filled the rest "..and give it a Doug score"
Lol
i understood that reference
hahahhaahhahahahaaa yeah dude
What about the "quirks and features"? haha
I'm not telling you shit.
How does it feel now, 2 years later?
Omega Seamaster for me all day long. Outstanding engineering at an excellent price point. Plus no ridiculous waiting lists. Thank you jenni for the great review.
Omega is overpriced. I know watches that function better and still look timeless. Also, the helium escape valve is ugly!
@@omgwtfpwnd an ugly wart indeed
@@omgwtfpwnd Omega isn’t the one that is overpriced…Rolex is. Omega has better technology in their watches with the METAS certification and is essentially amagnetic. You could buy a Planet Ocean (or Speedmaster) AND SMP 300m for the price of a Submariner. In addition, their warranty and customer service is highly rated. I own a GMT “Batman” and it took almost 9 months to buy. Try buying one on the grey market…it’s almost double the retail price.
I don't know why so many TH-camrs love omega so much. 2 years later people still want Rolex over it
Water got into my first Omega Seamaster, not once, but twice!
I've owned Subs in the past, and I really think the Seamaster is a more beautiful and satisfying watch for my collection.
same thing happened to me in nashua nh omega to the left of breitling now im on my 5th omega dumped the b1 and never looked back nice choice enjoy
I bought one of these but I can’t help but notice when I tap the watch it has a little rattle. Does yours do the same and is this normal ?
the Sophia Loren - now that's a beautiful piece
The first thing people think when they see a Rolex is “is it real?” And that’s why the seamaster is absolutely the winner out of the two.
So true
DieselPower lol exactly. They’re all punters anyway as per the Pontiff.
That’s a problem of the person asking the question, not the wearer. Who cares what others think?
That's very positive thinking
Once you're surrounded by the 1% nobody asks "is it real".
Beautiful watch and no wait. Walked into a local authorized dealer and walked out with the black dial version 30 minutes later...
Totally well said budd
The challenge with the "modern" look of the Seamaster, is how soon before it looks dated and out of style?
It's only natural to do the Moonwatch and Aqua Terra 41mm next.
or a Planet Ocean! I have the Aqua Terra GMT, Planet Ocean, and the new Seamaster ceramic! A speedy is next on my list
I would love an Aqua Terra at 41 not too sure about the Moonwatch
I have the blue dial with rubber strap as my daily beater and with the ceramic bezel, dial design and antimagnetic movement, it beats the s
Sub hands down as I own the Kermit and made the comparison myself. I know the Sub model that I have is pre-ceramic however comparing both watches with the pricing, definitely Omega SMP300 kills the Submariner.
No wonder the sub cannot be found in ADs, they were all killed :)
Rolex's Superlative is +2/-2, they don't do the regular COSC which is +6/-4.
I personally think the blue and the grey dials to be the most interesting. If you are not crazy about the Rolex hype, this Omega is a better buy.
killazx9 the blue and grey on bracelet is under 4K on watchmaxx.
It’s been the hottest day of the year here in the UK today and I’ve been wearing my ceramic blue Seamaster outdoors. It’s been the first time I’ve really noticed how the shade of blue changes in the sunlight. It’s stunning.
I prefer the white.
I would go further and say that the grey dial one is the most unique.....just stands out of the crowd without dazzling you.
I bought this watch today and love the white dial. Your video helped me pick white over black and blue. I love it so far!
Agreed the bracelet is garbage. If they drop the HEV and use sword hands then they really could compete with the sub and pelagos and others
yes - the bracelet absolutely sucks. They need to give it an oyster bracelet with a decent taper. The movement is oustanding so just need to get that bracelet sorted.
The last time Rolex invented something new, I fell of my dinosaur.
Off?
🤣
Caliber 9001 ?
Coming from an omega fanboy btw
@Madden Emmett how bout both of you shut the fuck up?
for the most part true, I'll give them credit for the Sky dweller movement in 2012 that one is pretty cool
Omega is definitely doing some good stuff lately. I wouldn’t really say the bracelet is inferior to the Submariner. It’s quite nice actually. Maybe the micro adjustment is not as intuitive as the Rolex, but the build quality is definitely there.
To be honest. I’d listen to this lady talk about toasters.

Very nice review, thanks. I have a 2000’s 16610 and a Seamaster PO with the 2500 movement, both massively different watches and I would never choose one over the other, I wear them on different days and for different occasions so I love them both.
I love the sound of your voice and accent. Sincerely from America
OK you are right
Your English with German accent is very soothing.
The black bezel, white dial combo is insane. If I didn’t have a polar explorer, I’d run out now to get one, but I’ll probably settle on the blue.
I also have this watch. The 2254.50 is a classic already. Will never sell it.
Exactly!
Its not Omega matching Rolex in terms of finishing. It's Omega outright beating Rolex's finishing. I mean dial alone
I like the white dial - it seems less busy than the dark one.
3235 is as silent as they get
@Mark Michael Watch clockbait's video on the Batman. It's due to the ceramic ball bearings on the rotor and it is noticeable. I have both right in front of me. No comparison.
@Mark Michael TBH I don't mind that much but it certainly matches some of my Seikos. And is blindingly obvious when next to my 5 digit sub.
It looks stunning with the white dial. To me it's clearly the most attractive option.
agree but i also like the black!
If Omega would make a 38 or 39mm version of this I would be all over it! But right now 42mm is just too big for my tastes
I'm in the same boat with regards to the planet Ocean with white dial and orange bezel. That's 43.5mm which is utter lunacy, they do a PO in 39.5mm but not the white and orange colours. It they release it I'll be ordering immediately.
Same here ..I ended up with an SKX013...It's made me think ...

I've got the 36mm and you don't notice the 2mm difference at all. The lug to lug is large enough that it doesn't look bulky or overly small. Might want to check that one out!
the sub is 41, why the obsession with small watches? not hating, just doesn’t make sense to me, guess its just preference...
The white dial on bracelet is just perfect.
The Tudor Pelagos is another alternative - quite close on spec and price
Charles Goodall
Rolex reintroduced the Tudor as a counter to Omega. This makes Omega compete with Tudor not Rolex....... Nice positioning!
Armando Sturzenegger
Yes.
@@rosshilton not to counter the range but to reinforce the gap and elevate the brand

One of these is my grail watch... I just can't make up my mind about which color I like best! Thanks Jenni!
I’m with you there, can’t decide on a colour. Love this white, but then see the grey face with blue bezel... I agree the blue looks awesome as well

New models are too big
I have just picked up this watch in the James Bond edition with the swirl dial. Absolutely beautiful.
Huge fan.
Any negatives so far & love to see how you feel about it it 6 - 12 months in
Hope you enjoy it
I might have to pick one up just for nostalgia’s sake. My uncle was the sound producer for James Bond from Dr. No through Octopussy and was close personal friends with Sean Connery. That would be a fun talking point at family reunions!
I don't have the Bond edition but it still looks and says BOND JAMES BOND, I'm sure the Queen would approve👍🏼
That dial is what makes it really special. Those lines are so damn elegant.
I’m from the US. Your voice and accent is so captivating. I’ve enjoyed your videos. Keep up the good work.
I love the design (except for the new helium escape valve) and the colors. But it's way too big compared to the sub and previous seamaster models, too bulky. So, I'd prefer a previous generation seamaster. It would probably look great on a rubber strap as well.
Love the design but it is massive 😡
I just don't like the bracelet and the escape valve, otherwise a very nice watch.
Right? Two pretty big elements...
When you see the bracelet without even seeing the watch you know it's a seamaster, The bracelet is iconic.
It comes down to personal preference, I prefer the Seamaster over the submariner. One thing Rolex has over Omega is value retention.
If it changed then sadly an iconic watch which means so much to so many will no longer be that for many people
Absolutely love that you reviewed this Watch! Omega fan for life!

Great, hoping one stupidity and hype to be the cure for another stupidity and hype. Do you even hear yourself?
@@sobeit712 Is that directed at me? You want to elaborate on your argument? How else do you believe the hype for Rolex will die down? How else do you think previous hypes have die down? @@rousseau327 No, the comment was directed at wingeren. As for the question on how to cure hype, that's the question of the century isn't it? great reviews, great products and great video as well! 10/10!
personally, i've been looking to get a seamaster with the grey and blue dial, i think it's a pretty balanced watch and can't wait to get one!
Why would a smaller case (and therefor less heft and material) dampen the sound of the rotor? Sounds like inconsistent QC.
What kills Rolex is Rolex AD's "no availability"
Finally you made an Omega Seamaster review. I would also add this is the absolute best option for an entry luxurious watch... way better than a Rolex Oyster! The movement is hands down better than that of Rolex and so is the overall specs sheet.
it's better than an OP for sure but worse than a Tudor pelagos which is an interesting consideration
This white and black sea master is gorgeous.
great, high professional, personable and warm presentation! Thank you very much Jürgen

I love this time piece. I like the size too. 42 mm is perfect for my wrist.
I love how people for some reason say 42mm is perfect when realistically it's more lug to lug width which plays a larger role.
@@offroadaaron That is true too. I have a large wrist and this is perfect.
Ssshhhh I am saving up for one , I don’t want omega to realise they are on to a winner and put the price up .
Total agree with you ,the price hike on this is ridiculous and for no apparent reason
I have to say that I like the Seamaster’s case better than the Sub’s.
Right. The Sub always looked weird to me. It looks like a circle on a rectangle
Always Bolt the Bird Yeah, SM300 looks so normal, with a muffin sticked to its case😂
I got the Blue dial in Nov 19. Upscale and modern. You can wear this watch anywhere and it keeps great time!
Her accent makes this channel even better.
Hi I own both Omega and Rolex and love them equally
My favorite variation of this watch, incredible shots!
Again a fantastic review and a beautiful piece, your voice is such a joy to listen too. Look forward to your next episode 😉👌🏽
I saw the blue one at a dealer last week and fell in love. Keep in mind it's a "professional Diver's watch", so the rubber strap has to be constructed like that (wrapping around the diver's suit). The bracelet has a quick adjuster for that, like on the Submariner.
Such a great quality of review, so I subscribed.I have been looking at this watch for a while and you confirmed my view of this watch. Thank you.
The one I am amazed about is the 300M CO‑AXIAL CHRONOGRAPH 41.5 MM. retail price 5k euro for a chronograph that looks like daytona!
17mm thick ... that does not in any way resemble a Daytona
The black dial version is incredible and I will own it. Thanks for another great video!
The Omega bezel is good, but the one on the Sub is just the best...
for the price where you could get 3 different omega seamaster pros, definitely wins than 1 Rolex sub
In this particular case, I think the cost-benefit analysis tilts the scale in Omega's favor. With the new SMP, there's no doubt in my mind you'll get a watch with better specs for less than half of the price of a new Sub. But I do prefer the previous version of the SMP as this new one is a little big for my taste (it's important to mention that the current version of the Sub wears more like a 41-42 than a 40 due in part to the larger lungs)
The design of the Seamaster collection has changed a lot throughout the years with the current SMP turning almost 30.
I also prefer the 2012-17 SMPc
What a difference from the homely faces on most watch websites !! Well, I am exaggerating, but not completely !! A pretty face, but also very knowledgable !! Please keep it up !!
Very nice review, as far as the rotors making loud noises go. It's the ceramic washers they are using now to reduce the friction and wear and tear.
JLC uses them as well with some of their movements!
Now imagine when Omega starts selling this with a GMT complication, like the OG Great White!!!
Loved my great white even though the crown was so small.
I've only ever had Omegas for the last 40 years. No ridiculous waiting lists or over inflated prices. Brilliant watch and amazing review.
Too bad Omega are dickheads and make watch sizes for big foot arms. My wrist is 6.5 and everything is probably too f!nn big.
@@omgwtfpwnd 😂😂😂😂
@@DEE-mt9eq 36-38mm used to be the Classic size for wristwatches until the fat wrist sized people started crying b/c they looked too small, so watch companies started making these absurd cartoon sized wristwatches for these absurd cartoon looking rappers. Smfh.
@@omgwtfpwnd Please stop!! I'm laughing non stop here. 😂😂😂. You know I have a fat wrist myself! 🤣🤣🤣
@@DEE-mt9eq Damn you, DEE! Damn you!! Big foot 🦶
Absolutely magnificent timepiece.
Superb quality. And also twice cheaper than a sub!
I think I'm going to buy the new green one. This white one makes a strong case, but mostly because of how it wears on aftermarket straps. But I think the green will also wear well.
Sold my rolex hulk... bought the grey dial seamaster 300m and still had 10k left. It was a no brainer for me.
For me it was basically the opposite. I wanted the Sub but thought why would I pay so much more so just bought the 300m
@@AlwaysBolttheBird i was able to get my sub for retail so it was a good deal for me. I bought the rolex, sold it a year later, bought the seamaster and still had the same amount of money left that i spent on the sub originally. I love my seamaster!
,
@@robertzirk5905 so you basically got your seamaster for free? You lucky bustard...
You should have held on to your hulk and sold it now that it is discontinued. The price has skyrocketed.
I would possibly buy this if it was a matte ceramic bezel. It looks really cheap and plasticy with the current finishing
Haven't heard of that....
Just bought this brand new from an AD, the lume is all blue *except* for the bezel 60min dot and the minute hand but it's very subtle that they're different unless the lume is super charged.
Alternative: Tudor Pelagos :-)
@Will Harris Can you explain why?
Pelagos is a legit contender. Better than the Sub for sure, and personally I think it's better that the Seamaster 300. Pelagos has 500m water resistance, automatic gas escape valve, COSC certified in house movement with 70 hour reserve, and a titanium case and bracelet.
@Will Harris it actually isn't. Pelagos bests this in every category.
peespooropinions can you talk like a proper human being or is the only thing you can do is insulting? Jeez man up
@@watchingwatches6357 i own both and everything about the 300 is better from the finish to the movement.the pelagos is a great watch and its tool-like but the 300 is just more classy and superior.
