- The code 3 restoration of a playworn Solido BMW 530 into a lookalike BMW 528e, one f my dads old cars.
The primary issue with this model is dismantling and then reassembling. There are no rivets so there is always the risk of snapping the base especially with old plastic.
I used this casting to make a lookalike of my dads old E28e shark nose five series. Obviously the casting wasn’t exactly the same as for the E28 and I used home made decals to generate the effect of some of the body work.
I’m particularly pleased with the rear lights which I copied from parts for sale on eBay of the real thing and then re sized.
I did not do the BMW badge since it would have just been a blob of blue or white and would in my view not have added anything To the final outcome and may have even made it appear worse. - แนวปฏิบัติและการใช้ชีวิต
Excellent work as always and a great tribute to your dad 😊😊😊😊
Thank you Mick. Much appreciated my friend 👍
Nice restoration, details and paint job 👌 👍
Thank you Joe. Much appreciated 👍
Lovely restoration Andy. Great paint and you were right - the decals were even more fiddly than the Yardley McLaren you did previously! 👏👍
Thank you Richard. Next week it’s a VW pick up 👍
Interesting work with decals. I really like how you pay attention to details. My congratulations, 💪👍
Thank you. I’m hoping to do some wheel decals , more lights and some checker plate if I have time for a Land Rover.
Great Job Andy, congratulations! 🤗👍❤️💯
Thank you much appreciated 👍

Great job Andy 👍🏻
Thank you Mark. Much appreciated, my dad liked it too 👍
@@andysgaragediecastrestorations you're welcome 😊
Outstanding restoration, you're best to date in my opinion Andy, you captured it perfectly
Thank you Martin. The paint came out great and that black trim really made the look right with the number plate. My dad was pleased. 👍
Nice interpretation Andy. The interior of the one I have only has a driver's seat and roll cage. Cheers Michael
Thank you Michael. Two difficult things on this one, the disassembly/assembly and adding that black stripe. It just wouldn’t have been right without the stripe. I purposefully didn’t put the BMW badge on the boot or bonnet, it would have been a distracting dot.
Very impressive custom. Great to watch.
I have a Solido Jaguar XJ12 and it does not have any revits either. It is similar construction, in this case to disassemble you push the headlights out first and the bottom falls away. To assemble you put all the pieces together except the headlight, including the base, finally push the headlight in, with the tongue that locks the whole lot in place.
Looking forward to the White Corgi BMW 328i.
Thank you for the advice. First time I have come across this fixing
Great Job Andy, congratulations!👍
Thank you Paul. Tricky on the stripes 👍
Fantastic restoration andy love how you done the rear lights with decals they look awesome well done 👍
Yeah the lights came out real good. I could not have painted them that’s for sure
Excellent work there Andy the attention to detail is spot on and Changing it from a 530 to 528 too ,certainly got patience putting that trim on 😊
Thank you Kev. That trim took over an hour to do. Paid off in the end, my dad was really pleased with it.👍
@@andysgaragediecastrestorations excellent Andy
Looks good. I have a bit of trouble with the audio. Don’t know if it’s my phone or at your studio .
I think it’s my phone. It’s better than it was last week. My dad said the audio was fine though
Thank you for watching and commenting 👍
Lovely job, Andy - I thought you'd have sprayed a base coat of the beige on the interior, then retrimmed the detail. But it looks smart. Was there a reason not to fit the interior then slide the grille in as a lock? I am just being nosey!
I’ve not done one of these before. So I just went with how I took it apart. Never thought of it that way. That’s why I was an accountant and not an engineer I guess 😂
