    1. I will start with the removal of a 48 spline 3-piece crank without a crank arm removal/setting tool. Then a brief overview of crank arm removal with the crank arm removal tool.
    2. Next, I will go over the removal and installation of a new sprocket. The sprocket is a Shadow Conspiracy Kobra.
    3. Preinstallation or "dry fit" to measure how many spacers you need to position the crankarm and sprocket correctly.
    4. Installation of crank without a setting tool. I show how i use my "Rob Brace" to intall the crank and position the spindle the most efficient way i know how. Then a breif overview of crank arm installation with the crank arm setting tool.
    5. My tricks and tips to the Installation of 8 spline 3-piece cranks.

    Thank you for showing the detail on the sprocket bolt. My friends chainring was wobbling all over the place because he had lost his bolt. I didn’t even know it was even there but we were able to fix his! Every little detail matters!

    tip for the loctite, all you have to do is heat the bolt up and it will melt and you can remove it, if it is a heat sensitive area just heat up the wrench and that will heat the bolt enough to melt the loctite

    I used exact length of spacers for driver and non driver side but the distance of the crank arms from frame where the rear wheel is a little off by few mm ( non driver side crank arm is closer to the chainstay frame than the driver side crank arm if I would put the finger through the gap I have more space on driver side than non driver side) is that normal?
    Thank You.

    So i just got odyssey calibur cranks, got it all on using only a 22 mm sprocket adaptor on driveside and cone spacer on non driveside, cranks fit nicely, however my spindle is only a few mm from the end of my crank arms, im pretty sure its not bottoming out. Im pretty sure my hub guards are throwing my chainline off causing noise in my chain and cranks. My question is, is it cool to put my guard on outside of my dropouts

      If taking the hub guard off helps your chain alignment but your hub guard won't fit on the outside of your dropouts, You could look into a hub guard that installs on the outside of your dropout. I fabricated my own a while ago. I just cut a rectangle of steel, drilled a hole in it for your axle, and heat it up and bend it so it goes under your chain.

    • @thebasementbikeshop2336
      @thebasementbikeshop2336  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah. I've done that before. One time it was so stuck that hammering on it destroyed the threads on the bolt and in the spindle. That's why i don't show this method. This is why a crank remover tool threads all the way in. In case it is really stuck.

      The Basement Bike Shop 3pc design i believe. The left side crank removes from the shaft. On the right side, the sprocket comes off with the crank. It has like a star ring around the base near the sprocket.

    If your sprocket is too far outward, you don't need the cone spacer

    • @thebasementbikeshop2336
      @thebasementbikeshop2336  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe one small spacer. As long as your sprocket doesn't hit your frame on the rear triangle.

    • @thebasementbikeshop2336

      Because I'm bracing the bike with my knees while i hammer the spindle out of the arm. If you brace the frame against something solid like a wall, you risk bending the frame. I hope that helps.

      Is there something in between the sprocket and the crank arm on the spindle? There should be nothing. Make sure the adapter is put in from the other side too so the sprocket sits directly against the crank arm. Hope that helps!
