  • This short video brings many ideas for all model railroaders when building or improving their layouts. Many of these ideas work on any scale or any era.
    After watching this youtube video you can go to our website and consider buying our two full length (1-hr 30-min. and 1-hr-42-min.) DVDs. The DVDs show how many of the models were built step-by-step. On each DVD is a folder with computer and ink-jet printable plans, templates and decorative items to make your models more precise and professional looking.

    I model the Central of Georgia railroad since I used to live in Jonesboro, GA. I bought a couple of Atlas GP-7s from another modeler in the Central of Georgia livery and he had never run them. When I got them they looked brand new and absolutely no wheel wear. I got them for $75.00 each. I've never paid more than $120.00 for an engine. I started collecting HO gauge back in the middle 80's but never really thought about modeling any certain railroad. Now things have changed and I'm getting an Atlas RS-3 in the Central of Georgia livery for Christmas along with a Kadee boxcar in the CofG livery. I also just got my very first brass diesel, a Fairbanks-Morse H-12-44 in the CofG livery. Back in the 80's I mostly bought Athearn engines and I hope the Atlas engines will perform as well as the Athearn ones as they are quite robust and keep on rolling. I recently started collecting Lionel 027 as I got the very same Lionel train set I had when I was a kid from my cousin. My train set got left behind in the attic when we moved from Hephzibah, GA. I couldn't believe my cousin had the exact same one and I sure was happy to get that set. I've now collected enough to make a 027 layout with 4 steam engines and 1 Texas Special diesel F-3. I think I have a couple dozen rolling stock to go with what I have. Oh yeah, I'm a DC guy only as I hate the sound of HO gauge DCC. I will probably end up weathering my brand new engines. I just don't like seeing pristine engines/rolling stock on the layout. I also make my own trees, my own iron oxide (rust), real bituminous coal for steam tenders and gondolas and scratch build for both HO and Lionel 027. Cheers from an ex-Georgian in eastern TN

    Absolutely spectacular! Your attention to detail in all aspects of the layout components is extraordinary

    IMO. weathered loco's, rolling stock, buildings, etc., look a whole lot better than that 1950s Lionel layout look I had as a kid... sterile and plastic looking. Nice work !

    I don't do as much detail like grab irons, brake wheels, ladders, etc. I paint almost all the details on molded on parts which help with perspective but I just can't see cutting off all the molded on parts for real parts. I do replace broken stirrups and brake wheels. I noticed that you don't paint the little springs on the couplers. If you don't paint them the same color as the coupler, it sticks out like a shiny sore thumb. I noticed it on the GP-9 couplers. Chicken coops - fully weathered; farmhouse & windmill - no weathering. If you're gonna pay that much attention to detail, wouldn't you weather houses & windmills? Cheers - eastern TN

      Does this scene remind you of the "Good Ole Days"! Walnut Creek was a great place back then, still is in a lot of ways.

    It’s weird, when we model areas, even in different eras, just by the weathering and color variety in scenery it’s very apparent what and where I’d being modeled. I’m modeling in the 1910-1935 era of the coastal Texas Gulf coast lines, two branch lines and another that’s interchanged into the main that’s served by southern pacific all in the Guadalupe river valley. In fact, the two branch lines served by the GCL (later mopac) had the latest serving 4-4-0’s in the country as they still ran daily revenue up until it crashed in 1946 in kingsville Texas.

      We try and keep the weathering specific to the region, even going out and sifting sand and rock ourselves. It is way more realistic and cheaper too.

    Great videos I can’t help but notice you forgot to mention your wigwag crossing signals on one of the single track grade crossings

      They are still there on a back road to the town feed mill. But they don't really work. Just inert castings from the 1970s.

    Ok, call me picky, but that station as good as it is. There wouldn't be a signal in the middle of the side walk. Also, there isn't enough room at the bottom of the steps from the upper walk way. Just saying.

    • @charlessmileyvideo
      @charlessmileyvideo  ปีที่แล้ว

      both stations have Train-Order Semaphores. They are not "signals" in the ordinary sense. They were usually in view of a bay window on stations to stop trains for picking up new orders.
