Great video! I just found one of these on marketplace and I snatched it up. I’m so excited to get it onto my saw this weekend. Mine is a bit different than yours. Hello David, I stumbled upon your video a little late - but at least I found it. Thank you for going into the detail that you did. You were very thorough. So I was incredibly fortunate to have been given a Delta Cabinet saw and a very similar Excaliber Dust Collection arm. I was just about ready to take it off and put it on eBay, because I really hadn't hooked it up due to not having a proper riving knife/splitter. I did experience kick-back when I first got the saw and it was clearly pretty scary. At that time I did not have the Delta splitter / protective cover (which I now have and use). FYI - I am somewhat of a novice with my cabinet saw. Now that I have some experience with the saw, I can clearly see the benefit of having the Excalibur, but am still troubled by the best method for a river knife / splitter when using the Excaliber. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks Mark for the great comments and I’m glad you found the video as well as my channel. I’m sure you’ll see lots of videos with the Excalibur in use. Your delta cabinet saw is pretty nice I’m sure but the older ones didn’t have a riving knife, as did my general cabinet saw. I used a splitter system that I felt was an awesome setup. You’ll see it in the videos. It’s by far the best setup in place of a riving knife. To be frank, my new saw has of course a riving knife but the splitter I had on my cabinet saw did a fine job too. I’d get that for your saw. You need a zero clearance insert that you can drill holes into for the splitter to go into. But that’s it. I think in my links to Amazon products that I use, I link the item. Table saw splitter. Get them and you won’t regret it. I have both sizes for regular kerf and thin kerf saw blades.
Yes they are great. Unfortunately as I stated in the video, you can’t buy them anymore new. You have to get them used. Craigslist or something else. You can get a sawstop guard that is pretty close to the same thing. They bought Excalibur so they have the saw guards now. But they are black and say sawstop.
Wow.. Man you're working overtime pumping out content today buddy... Another awesome video. I have the sawstop version of that and it's horrible. It's stiff and horribly awkward to maneuver and setup. Yours seems to move much more easily.

sorry to be that guy but that is incorrect! Standard western cabinet saws did come with riving knives for as long as the 60s as can be easily seen on pretty much every european saw from that era. It's only the american ones that lack the riving knife! Still you should get a riving knife! Also the connection between riving knife, dust hood and inability to use dado stacks ist not correct. I know a ton of older saws that have a ricing knife, a dusthood and the ability to use dado blades. However the arbor of the engine needs to be able to cope with the mass of the tool and since modern saws are optimized in terms of price (others may saw have a worse quality) this option is mostly only available if you're willing to spend the extra amount of money.
I’m sorry to say but you really are misinformed. Western cabinet saws did not come with riving knives since the 60’s. They had splitters with anti kickback pals. But this isn’t a riving knife. And yes you are correct about sliding euro saws have riving knives as I stated in the video, but you can’t use the riving knife with a dust guard attached to it while using a dado or making grooves. You simply can’t use a dado set with a riving knife which is why I said many euro sliders didn’t offer this longer arbor for dado sets as an option. However, as I stated in the video, when ordered from U. S. customers, you could sometimes get a slider with a dado set capability. Watch the video completely and listen completely so you can hear everything that is said. Thanks.
I’m 80 seconds into this video and already I’ve found three unbelievable statements…. 1.) “I made this really short video…” it 25 and a half minutes. That’s a really short podcast. 2.) You use this over arm collector for making dados…. Why? What purpose doe that serve? 3.) You found an $800 riving knife. Not sure I’m going to find this useful with such a lack of validity to start.
