    As a virtuosic improviser, Tom Quayle performs a jazz composition like an archeologist fervently brushing away the dust concealing an antiquity. He does so, however, not for academic purposes, but instead as an artist, passionately exploring what the rhythm, melody, and harmony might reveal. His improvisations are not self absorbed or self serving. Instead he is “in the tradition.” Digging deeper. Taking jazz improvisation to new places while understanding what the audience needs. Everything Quayle performs is in service to the arrangement which is crafted to seize the listener’s attention so that they can be as enchanted as he is by the the musical discoveries he has unearthed. That’s why I’m a fan.

    UK electric players are the best! Tom Quayle, Thomas McLaughlin (McRocklin), Rick Graham. They treat the guitar like a classical instrument and take it to virtuoso levels.

      @@yobodobo288 it's subjective, I used to think it, until I started learning fusion and now I think differently. That's what makes music fascinating.

    • @MICKEYISLOWD
      @MICKEYISLOWD 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The difference is UK players have done their theory correctly. They learned intervals correctly which means you can play every chord and scale up the neck. You have to memorise every interval and this takes months to do but you can then ''see'' the chords in the scales and ''see'' the scales in the chords if you memorise like this. This is how classically trained musicians are taught in conservatories and afterwards you never get stuck in a position ever again. From this you can take your style anywhere as it doesn't just have to be fusion or Jazz which often grates on my ears.

      +Boy Aditya You've gotta hear this 1988 live version by Chick Corea Elektric Band.... I usually don't like "Spain" all that much (despite Chick Corea and the Elektric Band being some of my favourite musicians/and Corea as a composer).
      This version is super progressive, 80's detective film fusion style. - th-cam.com/video/xJIN-pz95wQ/w-d-xo.html

    • @jg4168
      @jg4168 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you wish to go back to the roots of this composition, try th-cam.com/video/ye-FvKCZp3s/w-d-xo.html from 1939. Chick loosely "borrowed" the melodies from around 7 minutes to 10 minutes, but he added the energetic syncopated melody that Tom plays here - brilliantly I must say. Still I say thank you Joaquín Rodrigo.

      My guess is that as drive it's his very signature drive, Wampler Dual Fusion. Best overdrive I've ever tried. But since it's a Laney demo, don't you think he might be using the actual amp's drive? Maybe for the delay he's using a Fractal AX8, his live rig is pretty much the fractal with the dual fusion, into the laney and that's it. I've also seen videos where he just useds the AX8 direct with an amp model inside it and no amp.
