Great video Brad! My favourite point was your concluding one. Instead of focusing on making the task a little faster, focus on reducing all the waste around the process as that aspect is SO much bigger and therefore has so much more opportunity. 100%

Business owner will probably end up with so many cancer claims! Sanding and breathing all that fine dust! Woow! Who bloody cares about non-value-added process when there is a massive safety breach! Unbelievable! Great video!

Brad, Great video. Watched last Friday late, spent all day Saturday with you in my head "no added value, no added value"

How can anyone give this a thumbs down I just don't know. Brilliant fundamental video Brad, well done. If every single owner of companies or CEOs understood this, then every organization would be so much better.

I live for these comments. lest stop spending our time on Non-value added activity and do the things we enjoy! Toyota president quotes "doing non value added activity is the equivalent of shortening ones life" . KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK !

As always - great video and analysis! I do similar "video waste analysis" with my students. Lots of fun for them to see all the waste!
Comment: I'm not in your Gemba, but if pre-paint sanding is a result of a previous process not completing a job correctly, even sanding can be Waste (Overprocessing).
Some might look at a process from an internal customer perspective, and see an admin process as transformative VA. But, I always like calling more stuff NVA, because the more NVA you can see, the more opportunities to improve!
    Really enjoying your channel!

People painting and sanding without proper breathing gear and PPE, a lot of different hoses and cords on the floor which can cause injury or health problems in the future. But maybe that is not seen as a problem for the company.
1:05 Better placement of parts and another painting stand would limit non-value work. If the company has money automatic painting line could also be an option.
2:00 manual sanding process could probably be more or less removed completely
2:50 a fan for the employer? blowing up microscopic dust all over the area, not good for lungs.
    3:13 pushing a timer, definitely, non-value added
3:28 One person having control over things that affects the whole company and can get everything to a standstill if he quits of getting sick is a big risk.
3:50 huge amount of dust, better suction would remove the leaning that is needed afterwards
4:04 blowing dust all over and no PPE. particle gets into machines and in people's lungs. A solution would be to use a vacuum, at least when the board is whole in one big piece
4:58 could be drawn with the CNC or a stamp could be used.
5:25 table with wheels could need some attention, a lot of unlabeled junk and storage is getting a lot of dust. Solution would be labelled drawers and shelves should be made so dust falls of by leaning or using bars
5:25 cheap none atex radio in a dusty environment, could be fire hazard

Wow wow wow!! I love this!! When you walk away from a video like this, you can’t help but say to yourself, “no value added, no value added, no value added.” Great job Brad! You keep us all inspired!

Great video, 2 things I really noticed in the background is the improvement board and the sanding robot, I tried to find the robot online who is the manufacturer of this sanding machine?

      @QuantumLean  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Hey George, that sanding robot was our invention from the ground up. They are so popular we are now selling them commercially. if you hate sanding as much as we did... they are amazing !!!! call me anytime to discuss (519) 494-2883

Brad, remember, not all hands-on work adds value. You mentioned that inspection doesn't add value, but what about any touchup that takes place? That doesn't add value either. So, what is the next step for someone to do to make it Easier, Better, Faster, Cheaper? If your processes are balanced to Takt Time, why would it be important to continue to improve and eliminate nonvalue adding activity? I know the answer to that question, but the audience might not.
