  • In this short video I describe the difference between value and non-value added activities. Reduce the non-value added activities in your job and watch your productivity soar!

Love the concept but can’t help notice the absence of a cut proof glove whilst using the knife? I would appreciate it if you could share where safety comes into the lean processes?!

Brilliant video Ryan! Welding in particular is a great process to demonstrate this - very visual to see only when the gun is sparking, is value being added and even in a well thought out process, that’s a small percentage of the time!

Thanks Jerry, yes it’s good to be sharing the videos again, there has been such an uptake of Lean over the past few months all over the world, felt it was a good time to start sharing!

I think this video can also be interpreted as you undervaluing your employees. Regardless of if the customer sees it or not, each and every individuals time and energy is an asset to your company. By telling them that they're constantly wasting time when they aren't being productive 100% of the time (which is unrealistic), you might have the reverse reaction of lowering worker morale and making them feel like a number rather than a human. It seems to me like some employers just wanna squeeze every cent they can out of their employees. I understand optimizing, but I wish this was phrased in a way that was promoting employee health, safety, and efficiency rather than customer needs. Just food for thought.

Hello Ryian, how do you control production and traceability to achieve deliveries on time, do you use a lean tool, or ERP? Thank you very much.

When a farmer is waiting for his corn to ripen. Is the wait time a waste? If he goes out every morning to see if he needs to spray the corn with pesticides, is this a non value added?

If the product is changing then its value added, to check if extra steps are required... is a necessary non value added task.

All I see is a person pointing a finger & making judgement without showing solutions. That within itself is wasteful motion.
