    I held on to my 2017 MacBook Air for an extra year because I heard the Magsafe connector was coming back. It saved my computer from taking a trip to the floor at least twice in 4 years. An invaluable feature for my clumsy ways. The battery just started acting up, and the M2 was on sale, so I just bought one. It is arriving this afternoon.

    Those benchmarks and the prevalence of Thermal Throttling will be what makes or breaks the M2 for many. Without the fan and the more power hungry chip, it’s gonna be interesting to see if Apple somehow was able to make the passive cooling system effective. It’ll also be interesting to see if the 2 base models of the M1 and M2 have a $200 price difference in the performance, as that’s what most people will be looking for likely.

    • @andyH_England
      @andyH_England 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The Air is not meant for sustained loads, it is an ultrabook at heart and even Apple says buy a Mac with a fan for sustained workloads. So, no, it will def not be make or break as pro users should not buy this if they want prolonged intensive usage as it has no fans and will obviously thermal throttle.

    MBA/M2 for the win. Great job describing the new model and pointing out all the highlights. That screen difference is substantial. Great job demonstrating that aspect of the MBA.
    That starlight color is unusual. At time it appears gold, other times it appears silver and other times it appears white.

    It’d be really nice if apple kept the m1 MacBook Air design going forward and called it the MacBook, brought the 12 inch MacBook back and made a 15 inch MacBook Air. Then they would have every screen size all the way up to 16 inches. I feel like that would be perfect.

    Nice review. Funny how Apple sent the 512GB model instead the base one with the slower SSD issues. We will just wait for the "Can you really use the M2 Macbook Air as your only video editting computer" video, featuring the base model of course, and see how it compares to the M1 base model that you did almost two years ago. Would much appreciate to see the time differences between these two base models for the same load.

    I´m worried about the heat, make some tests and tell us how it behaves. More power consumption and more screen it is more heat and less battery life, I think. Compare the M1 and the M2 with same characteristics and tell us if the heat makes the M2 computer slower than the M1.

    • @geekoman31
      @geekoman31 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I personally think that it's fine, people are showing 8k raw video editing on these machines and say it throttles, bro come on nobody is going to do that on these laptops. This laptop is going to be powerful and cool for all your everyday tasks and the battery life will be the same as the MacBook air M1.

    • @mbvglider
      @mbvglider 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      M2 has beaten the M1 in every performance test I've seen so far and had the same battery life. Even if the M2 throttles, so does the M1. Besides, the whole point is that Apple chips don't heat up that much in most usage anyway, and unless you've been hitting the CPU/GPU hard for 5+ minutes, you're going to get full performance from either chip. Outside of gaming, rendering, or encoding, there are very few things that use 100% performance for a long period of time. Even normal editing of 4K video, photo editing, or even coding will have a moments of rest between high CPU use, during which the CPU/GPU doesn't use very much power at all.

    Literally I swapped my old Mac editing station for a 14” and literally the only time I notice the notch? When people mention it in videos 😅 I’ve never even seen it while working that I can think of
    Also I kinda wish I would have went with the bigger model for more video editing and multitasking space 🤷🏼‍♂️ but that portability is so nice
    I freaking love that apple managed to do what I wished for in high school!!! Making the 13” and other small MacBooks actually strong enough to do real work! I love the new Mac line up and all of them can edit photo and video. I just had a base model Mac mini that was a power house for cheap cheap

    Great video!! Subscribed 🔔 I'm getting either M2 or M1 MBA with 16gb RAM, but leaning towards M1 due to the temperature issue/faster throttling with the M2. Both machines will easily handle my work tasks, but I'm a bit worried in terms of light gaming. The only game I play is wow (optimized for Mac), but a session could last up to 4 hours. If the M2 is as good as the M1 in this case (or worse), I'd rather save 300$.

    I know youre probably working on review of the M2 MacBook Air and as a fellow Northeast Ohioan, I would love to see a real life performance review. One that actually does the things that the MacBook Air was designed to do. The Everyday stuff like watching TH-cam videos, sending emails, surfing the web, Using Pages, Number and Keynote or the Office Suite. I don't think you're a graphic designer but it would be great to see how Indesign, Illustrator and Photoshop performs. Im going out a limb here and say the that the M2 MBA won't overheat and that RAM and even swap won't be an issue. It's so maddening that a certain set of reviewers are focusing on the entirely the wrong thing. I haven't seen one review that mentions battery life or comparing displays. Just how many past MacBook Air owners even own Final Cut Pro or Lightroom. Thanks, love your channel and looking forward to your review.

    • @_the_shivam_
      @_the_shivam_ 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bro, there need not be any comparison between the MBA and the MBP. Both are built for different sets of users. If you're a light user, MBA does the job hands down whether it's an M1 or M2 for that matter.
      Apple sells the PRO variant for the stuff that necessarily requires an active cooling system and having said that, MBA ain't built for that certainly.
      Go for MBP if you're a professional video editor or a coder, else go for MBA M2 or even M1 (comparatively cheaper and better value for money).
      Also, if the new ad-ons like Magsafe, High Impedance Headphone Jack, New Matte Black and Starlight colors etc don't matter to you, DON'T GO FOR THE M2.
      I've pre-ordered the MBA M2 for the obvious reasons as I'm a light user and I've been using MBA M1 since a long time without facing any issues with it.
      DON'T COMPARE AIR WITH PRO (BOTH TARGET DIFFERENT SET OF USERS)

    Good initial compo vid, but really keen to see a blow by blow review of both their performance. And £300uk is a 30% jump 8n price: I’ll need a bit of convincing, above a lovely blue colour …. Thanks.

    I also really like the right angles but I don't like the rounded corners 😊

    Can you do a comparison between the m2 macbook air and the 14 inch Macbook Pro m1 pro? The way I plan to configure the m2 air. It's a similar price to an open box 14 pro. I like the portability of the air. And if the air is relatively capable. I would choose it over the m1 pro power.

    I have the M1 MacBook Air, and it performs amazing and before I give it up and trade it in for the M2 MacBook Air, Im curious if the M2 version is future proof. I would mainly get it for the screen size. the 13" is become a big small. But I starting to hear conflicting reviews that the M2 and M1 are good depending on how its used. Part of my wants to say screw it and get the MacBook Pro buuut I don't feel like dropping 2k at the moment if I don't need to.

    I bought my 15 inch MBA with 16GB/512GB and love it. Battery life is great and I enjoy the bigger display since its harder for me to see, also for a 15 inch machine its pretty light

    Could you compare the 14inch pro with this M2 air since the price difference is getting much smaller, especially in other countries
